● By an attractive, usually foreign, usually “a catch”

● Tells sob story about how troubled they are or how
difficult it is to meet you
● Asks for money as proof of love (cos’ we all know we
can put a price on love, duuuUH) or need money
desperately to get out of a predicament before they can
meet you
What to do
● Ignore them or call the Po Po
6. Online purchase scam
Why
● Cos’ Singaporeans cheapskate love and can’t resist a good deal
● Cut us open we bleed kiasu
How
● “SUPER CHEAP LIMITED DEAL ONLY”
● Tempts you with super, unbelievably cheap deal
● Might even demand more payment for added “duties” as if GST not
high enough
What to do
● Read reviews as if your life depended on it
● Insist on physical meet-up and cash-on-delivery for online classified
purchases. Nobody gon’ get your money before you inspect the
goods.
7. Impersonation scam
Why
● Government institutions operate well in Singapore so
Singaporeans trust (naturally)
How
● “I am a police officer!”*
● “You need to give me your passport and bank account
number so I can resolve the case for you!”
What to do
● Be a typical, cynical Singaporean
● DON’T GIVE THE MONEY. AND PERSONAL DETAILS.

number, you think they want to transfer you lunch money

8. Credit-for-sex scam Why
● Some Singaporeans think money can buy “love”

● A stranger (usually hot, usually young, might be alien)
● Might offer sexy time or massages (also sexy time)
● In exchange, wants you to buy them things and/or gift cards
What to do
● Don’t be duped by anyone asking for shopping credits or gift
cards for “a meet-up baby ;)” Where got so easy one?
● Do an image search online to make sure your Jennifer

● Don’t give personal details, or details that can redeem online
credits, such as gift card PINs.

● Because you can never resist it. It’s like those cute,
evil, cuddly toys are taunting you

● People who flaunt their wins by strutting around the
