6. Tony J. Azar is an entrepreneur, accomplished business
man, philanthropist, and community-minded individual
who has made a significant impact on thousands of lives
in the community that he serves.
As founder and president of the Azar Group of
Companies, he has built a diversified corporation that
is focused on products and services for the new home
construction sector.
With 100 employees on the team, Azar’s flagship
company, Raymax Construction has built over 2,500
high quality homes in Windsor Essex County since 1987.
His brand promise, “Because of the Customer, We
Exist,” along with the company’s commitment to quality,
service, value, honesty, and integrity has earned him the
highest service excellence award given in the industry;
the Tarion Service Excellence Award, which he has
received each year since the inception of his company.
His innovations and accomplishments in new home
construction have set the benchmark for all other
builders in the region. The company provides high
quality, affordable family homes that are built using
the latest materials and technology. Some of which
have been invented by Azar himself. To his credit, the
company has never missed a closing.
Constantly looking for new innovations and efficiencies
in home design and construction, Azar designed and
patented the Azar Block; an unique mortarless block
foundationsystemthatsignificantlyreducesthetimeand
cost of building foundations. In 1996 he took the concept
of mortar-less block construction one step further and
developed the revolutionary AZAR Mortarless Building
Systems™ for the “do-it-yourself-er” market.
The innovative technology that Azar designed means
that construction projects can be completed in a
fraction of the time with professional results. AZAR
Systems™ allows the homeowner to build retaining
walls, fences, BBQ’s, light posts and more up to 10X
faster than conventional bonded-block masonry
construction. Azar also holds 42 patents and 12 patent
pending application worldwide.
As a result of these innovations and Azar’s consistently
high standards for service and quality, the Azar Group
of Companies was awarded the community’s highest
honour in 1997 with the Windsor and District Chamber
of Commerce’s Business Excellence Award.
While he is a gifted and accomplished entrepreneur,
Tony J. Azar has unselfishly committed his time and
energies to making life better for thousands of people
in the community. For years Azar has sponsored minor
sports in the community, including Windsor Minor
Hockey, Sun County Midget Hockey, Windsor Spitfires,
Windsor Senior Hockey, the Windsor Wildcats, and
more, illustrating his passion for hockey. Beyond the
arena, he has also contributed to numerous other youth
sports and clubs, including Scouts Canada, Safety Patrol
Jamboree, the Children’s Safety Village, Ontario Special
Olympics, and the Windsor Soccer Club, and more.
Mr. Azar has a passion for a number of other charities
within the community and has supported them
throughout the years. Among them are the Hospice of
Windsor, the Terry Fox Foundation, Windsor Regional
Hospital, the Brentwood Foundation, Alzheimer’s
Society, and more. He has also established a scholarship
fund of $5,000 with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District
School Board to assist high school graduates with their
post-secondary education, particularly those students
who may not have the financial means to attend either
college or university.
In 1994, he began a “feed the community” Christmas
campaign. He donated 500 turkeys to families in need.
The following year he convinced other community
business members to join the cause and today with the
12th Annual Azar Christmas event, 500 families not only
receive a turkey, but all the trimmings as well.
Azar has received numerous recognitions and awards for
hiswork.HehasbeenawardedtheFireMarshall’sAward,
a Golden Jubilee Medal, from the Queen Majesty’s Award
Foundation, the Pope John Paul II 25th Anniversary
Medal, and numerous other awards of excellence for
his outstanding business acumen and commitment to
quality through his company, Raymax Construction.
Above all, Azar is a loving and committed family man.
Until 2006, his four sons, Eddie, Danny, Dory, and Jeff
were all an integral part of the family business. Since
then, they have all left to start their own professional
careers. He and wife Theresa also share the joy of four
daughters-in-law Vicky, Dana, Nadia, and Jessica and
five grandsons Anthony, Christian, Zachary, Nathan, and
Andrew, and two granddaughters, Ellis and Juno.
Tony J. Azar’s accomplishments are ones that he does
not talk about easily. He quietly goes about his business,
devoting one hundred percent of his energy to making
Windsor-Essex County a better place for his family, his
employees, and for the community at large. Tony J. Azar
is truly a man of excellence.
