Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin,
(16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977)
was an English comic actor, filmmaker,
and composer who rose to fame in the
era of silent film..
CHAPLIN’S CHILDHOOD
• Chaplin's childhood in London was one of
poverty and hardship .
• When he was 14, his mother was committed
to a mental asylum.
• Chaplin began performing at an early age,
touring music halls and later working as a
stage actor and comedian.
CHARACTERISTICS OF CHARLIE CHAPLIN
Chaplin’s principle character ‘The Tramp’ is
a vagrant with the refined manners &
dignity of a gentleman.
The character wears a tight coat , oversized
trousers & shoes and a derby,carries a
bamboo cane and has a signature
toothbrush moustache.

Chaplin was knighted in 1975 at the age of
85 as a KBE award by Queen Elizabeth .
Among other recognitions , Chaplin was
given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
in 1970 .
