Charlie Chaplin was born in 1889 in London, England to a musician mother and comedian father. He grew up poor and had to work at a young age. In 1912, he saved enough money to move to Hollywood to become an actor. Chaplin became a legendary actor and filmmaker, primarily known for his iconic character of The Tramp. He wrote, directed, produced, edited and starred in many silent films that satirized capitalism and the differences between social classes. Chaplin was highly influential and helped establish the art of silent comedy films.
