F451 Book Review: Life Lessons from Fahrenheit 451
1. Dear Ms. Lyons
Over these past couple of weeks I have learned a lot from a book called Fahrenheit 451 by Ray
Bradbury. This book not only taught me the importance of life but also the many reasons of why you
should enjoy it. At the beginning of the novel, Montag develops a friendship with his teenage neighbor,
Clarisse McClellan, whose outlook on life is so astonishing that Montag has to examine his life. Soon
after that he realizes he is unhappy with his life and no longer loves his wife, Mildred Montag. She is
one of the main character's in the book who seems to have no idea how to solve the never ending
conflict within herself.
Guy Montag the main character in the book is a middle aged man who takes pleasure in his
profession as a fireman, burning illegally owned books and the homes of their owners. However,
Montag soon begins to question the value of his profession. Throughout the novel Montag struggles
with his existence, eventually fleeing his boring old life and joining an underground group of
intellectuals. With his newfound friends, Montag witnesses an atomic destruction of his city and
dedicates himself to rebuild a cultural society.
This novel was strong enough to affect me and made me realize that I should stop and think
about my life a little bit and ask myself the question, am I happy, do I want to keep living like this for
the rest of my life. I answered yes because my life unlike Montag's is full of excitement and joy. This
book opened my eyes and showed me a whole different world in which I think about things before I do
them and about the things that other people tell me to do. Instead of having a mechanical hound I have
a regular dog, and instead of having a psycho wife, I have normal parents, Lastly instead of a weird
boss I have almost regular teachers.
2. Fahrenheit 451 has showed me that life is too beautiful to waste on drugs and alcohol, Mildred
on th other hand does not know about it and overdosed on tranquilizers and sleeping pills. I think that
this book everyone should read because it shows the importance of life and how easy it is to ruin it, if
you don't know how to take care of yourself the right way. I believe that nowadays every body from
the sixth grade has seen or heard from movies and other sources about drugs and alcohol, and I think
that we should make more of these kind of books so that kids and adults will learn to solve problems
without taking drugs or alcohol.
The many reasons why this book is not for kids in high school is that it reminds kids about
drugs and how characters in books use it, after a while the kids will think if Millie did it and she did not
die then maybe I won't either. This book has many important details on how you should live your life,
but also has many down sides about drugs and pills. Close to the end Montag has to give the book back
to Beatty after stealing it, and while he is there the alarm goes off. Montag decides to go along with
Beatty and realizes that its his house. Montag finds out that Mildred turned in the alarm and is shocked
that she would do something like that, before they go back Beatty announces that Montag is under
arrest. Montag Defies the law and burns Beatty alive and goes on the run for survival.
In conclusion Montag tries to rebuild the city after the bomb and thinks not of the past but of the
distant future. I think that this book should be read by everyone even if it has some Profanity of drugs
and alcohol. Fahrenheit 451 is one of the few books that made me realize in what a wonderful place I
live in.
Sincerely
Tom Krakovszki
