THE thundering rhythms of the
Kodo taiko drummers will echo
through the Lighthouse Poole in
the New Year.
The electrifying drummers
bring their exquisite musician-
ship, stunning visuals and pure
theatre to the UK for the first
time since 2010 with their most
ambitious production yet.
Kodo One Earth Tour 2014:
Legend will hit the Poole on
February 15. Hailing from the
remote Japanese Sado Island,
Kodo is the first and most
influential taiko ensemble in the
world, comprising a 26-strong
troupe of musicians and dancers
who transform centuries-old
traditional Japanese ritual and
performing arts into
exhilarating, contemporary stage
shows.
Since its foundation in 1981,
Kodo has given nearly 4,000
performances across all five
continents, from war-torn
Croatia to Carnegie Hall and
from the Nobel Peace Prize to the
Football World Cup. Their unique
re-imagining of ancient
instruments, traditional music
and dance has inspired the likes
of Stomp and Cirque du Soleil.
Kodo Ensemble Leader,
Tomohiro Mitome, says: “We
have enriched our performances
with artistic expressions
previously unseen on the Kodo
stage, incorporating new
costumes and Western
instruments.”

PREPARE for a prog-rock
journey from down under with
the Australian Pink Floyd Show.
The renowned tribute band
brings their Set The Controls
tour to the BIC on March 6
The tour will draw heavily
from the iconic The Dark Side Of
The Moon, Wish You Were Here
and The Division Bell albums but
will also feature an element that
will allow the audience to choose
the material that the band plays
in certain sections of the show.
Following on from their visit to
the BIC earlier this year, this
even bigger UK tour will see that
band bringing their meticulously
crafted show to an ever-growing
audience. Founder member
Jason Sawford said: “We cannot
wait to start the Set The Controls
tour, the UK audiences are
always brilliant.”
Bassist Colin Wilson added:
“This tour will take the band the
length and breadth of the UK.
We’re looking forward to meeting
up with the Aussie Floyd fans
again and, of course, playing the
amazing music of Pink Floyd.”
The band attempt to capture
and convey the spirit as well as
the sound, and attention is
lavished upon their jaw-dropping
visuals and effects.
Aussie Floyd, who have sold
over three million concert tickets
in their own right, are much
loved for their near note perfect
performances which remain true
to the original. Their loving
recreation of Pink Floyd on stage
has made sure they continue to
fill large venues such as the BIC.

THE award-winning Highcliffe Charity
Players return to tread the boards once
more next year.
The team is set to deliver a family
pantomime of comic pirate adventure
Treasure Island at the Regent Centre.
It will run for 11performances from
January 17-25. Tickets are priced at £9.50-
£13.50, and profits will go to local charities.
Toby Bradford and Tina Webster’s new
panto adaptation of Robert Louis
Stevenson’s much loved tale is billed as
Treasure Island meets Robinson Crusoe.
Audiences can expect a fun evening of
great sets and costumes, popular show
songs, dazzling dance routines, slapstick
humour and, of course, audience
participation. Stuart Darling returns as
musical director of his second Charity
Players’ panto, and HCP Chairman
Georgina Smith, herself an award winning
principal boy and choreographer, is both
director and choreographer.
“In our 42 year history, HCP have staged
all the traditional pantos,” she says.
“So it’s a real pleasure to find something
new. And not only new, but really funny,
too. HCP’s very first panto back in 1972
was Robinson Crusoe, so there’s a link to
our past.”

Forest Forge Theatre
Company brings their
brand new production of
Anne of Green Gables to
the Lighthouse Poole on
February 1.
Based on LM Mont-
gomery’s bestselling
novel, the story begins
with the Cuthberts, a
couple who are looking to
adopt a boy to help on their
farm. What they get is
Anne; a girl with bright
red pigtails, a vivid
imagination and a fiery
spirit.
Anne turns a rural
community upside down
with her passionate
nature, joyful honesty and
infectious energy.
Featuring a host of
memorable characters,
this story about family,
friendship and the fun of
childhood comes from the
same team that created
The Phoenix and the
Carpet and Midnight is a
Place.
Beautiful music and the
usual Forest Forge magic
and mayhem will be sure
to entertain and delight
families with children
aged over five. Kirstie
Davis, artistic director of
Forest Forge, will direct
the production and
says: “Anne of Green
Gables was one of my
favourite books as a child
because she is full of joy
and imagination, spirited
and willful and gets into
trouble constantly at
school and in the comm-
unity. We believe this is the
first time the book has
been adapted since the
1960s for the stage and
once again Russ Tunney
has brought his trademark
humour and magic to this
well known tale.”
