About Us: Camp O’Malley is an affiliate of The Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids. Camp is located 25
minutes outside of downtown Grand Rapids in Alto, MI. In 2016, we served close to 600 youth between the
ages of 6-14. 90% of these campers live in the inner city of Grand Rapids. Most campers pay only $45 to
come to come to camp for the week.
Our Mission: To enable all young people to reach their full potential as responsible citizens through
education, recreation, and other positive community experiences in partnership with the Grand Rapids Po-
lice Department.
Staff: We are looking for motivated staff members that have a genuine passion for youth. Experience with
inner city youth is preferred but not required. Staff must be 18 years old and have completed one year of
college. Staff must pass various background checks and provide us with three references.
Join campers in the excitement of hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, tubing, rock climbing, zip-lining,
fishing and so much more! Mentor and teach kids the values of learning leader-

Work at Camp O’Malley this Summer!

 10 Weeks of paid employment from
June 5th - August 11th
 Camp runs Sunday night-Friday
afternoons with weekends off!
 Full summer commitment required.

Available positions include:
Counselor(18)- Counselors work with campers ages 6 to 14 for
all eight weeks of the summer. They are responsible for carrying
out the weekly program with campers by being positive role mod-
els, living with their campers during the week, and providing sup-
port and care for each camper. These individuals must be at least
18 years of age, be one year out of high school and have previ-
ous experience working with children.
Health Officer(1)- Health officers must have or be working to-
wards a nursing or medical degree (Upperclassman preferred).
Health officers are responsible for the health and safety of each
camper and staff member at Camp O’Malley. This person main-
tains all medical records, administers all medications, screens all
campers and is responsible for the treatment of all participants.
Camp Gardener (1)- At Camp O’Malley we hire a Gardener each
summer to oversee our organic garden and teach campers the
basics of gardening.
Program Specialists – Many staff take on additional responsibil-
ities or Roles to support the implementation of the Camp O’Mal-
ley program. They provide the instruction and oversight for the
various activities offered at camp. The training for Program Spe-
cialists is very comprehensive, and could lead to future job oppor-
tunities. The Roles are as follows:
Lifeguard- responsible for all waterfront activities (lake, pool and
river).
High Ropes Staff- responsible for running the high ropes activi-
ties at Camp O’Malley including the Climbing Wall and The High
Ropes Course.
Low Ropes instructor- responsible for safely leading groups
through the various elements in the Low Ropes Course.
Archery Instructor- Archery Instructors receive level 1 archery
certification, and implement the camp archery program.
Camp O’Malley Summer Staff
Maintenance(1)- Maintenance staff will be responsible for the
daily cleaning and maintenance of camp facilities. Prior mainte-
nance experience preferred. Person must be at least 18 years of
age. Position also includes helping with program set-up and
assisting with program logistics.
Office Manager(1)- The Office Manager is responsible for over-
seeing the daily operations of the camp office, which includes
opening-day registration and closing-day checkout procedures;
responding to phone and e-mail inquiries, keeping updated ros-
ters; managing camper information and other documentation;
providing clerical support for Director and lead staff as needed.
This can be an hourly position, but a candidate who can live on
campus for the summer is preferred.
