GetOut!Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands welcomes you to
spend an exciting summer at camp this year. During the summer of 2015,
girls will have the opportunity to GET OUT and experience all that we have
to offer! Our programs are designed for the outdoor adventurer, the art
enthusiast, the STEM lover and for girls with a variety of interests. Campers
will have a chance to make this a summer where no girl is left inside as we
GET OUT!
Girls will create memories, make new discoveries, develop lifelong friend-
ships, build self-esteem, and learn new skills in a safe and supportive
environment. The encouragement of caring and trained adult staff along
with great outdoor experiences provides progression, challenge, a sense of
accomplishment, and most importantly, FUN!
Non-Girl Scouts are welcome to attend, and the non-Girl Scout fee includes
registering participants as a Girl Scout member through September 30,
2015. All of the programs and sessions offered through our camps are de-
signed to fulfill Girl Scout Leadership Experiences outcomes while challeng-
ing girls to do new and exciting activities.
Please take time to explore which camp programs are right for
your camper. Whether your girl is new to camping or is sea-
soned camp veteran, there is a program for her.
Registration begins February 27th! Registration is
available online and also via fax, mail, or walk in.

CAMP
F.A.Q.’S
If your daughter has never spent the night
away from home, you may want to start with
a day camp program. After that, she may
be ready for a sampler program at resident
camp and then a one-week program. After
a good experience at a one-week camp
program she may be ready to try multiple
weeks or a two-week session. Although
age is one factor in readiness for camp,
a girl’s maturity level and personality are
more important. Talk with your daughter
about camp and ask if she wants to attend.
If she is enthusiastic, then she will likely
enjoy camp. For more information on camp
readiness, visit www.acacamps.org.

Staff members are trained in CPR and First
Aid. A qualified health supervisor is on-site and
a doctor is on call if illness or injury requires
additional medical attention. Parents will be
notified in the event of an emergency. Routine
health care and medications are administered
by the health supervisor. Medications are
kept in a locked cabinet at the health center.
Prescription medication must be in the original
container, clearly labeled with camper’s name,
prescribing physician, and directions for
dispensing. The health center is stocked with
over-the counter medications to treat common
maladies.

We hire talented, caring adults who are selected on the
basis of their experience, ability to serve as role models,
and genuine desire to work with children. Training includes activities, programming,
outdoor skills, songs, games, First Aid and CPR, team building, age-level
characteristics, and how to deal with missing home. Staff that facilitate high adventure/
specialized activities are required to have additional training and certifications.

Parents often have a difficult time sending
their daughter to resident camp. These
questions may help you in deciding:
• Can you relax and enjoy yourself when
your daughter sleeps overnight away from
home?
• Are you prepared to be away from your
daughter for several days?
• Are you prepared to have contact only
through letters and care packages?
• Do you believe Girl Scout camp provides
girls with a fun, rewarding experience that
builds girls of courage, confidence, and
character?
• Are you willing to trust the camp staff with
the care of your daughter?

Girls will make new friends while at
camp and may also invite a friend.
Girls may request to be assigned

level and register for the same

friend must submit their individual
paper registration forms at the same
time and indicate the desire to be
buddies on both registration forms.

Every effort is made to ensure that your
child has a fun, safe experience while
at camp. Missing home is common for
children who are spending time away from
their families. Camp staff receive training
on how to recognize and help children
overcome this feeling. Be positive about
the camp experience and encourage your
child through letters and care packages. If
you have a concern please call the camp
director. Refunds are not given if a child is
picked up early.

  • 6. CAMP F.A.Q.’S If your daughter has never spent the night away from home, you may want to start with a day camp program. After that, she may be ready for a sampler program at resident camp and then a one-week program. After a good experience at a one-week camp program she may be ready to try multiple weeks or a two-week session. Although age is one factor in readiness for camp, a girl’s maturity level and personality are more important. Talk with your daughter about camp and ask if she wants to attend. If she is enthusiastic, then she will likely enjoy camp. For more information on camp readiness, visit www.acacamps.org. A1 Is my daughter readyfor camp? Q1 Staff members are trained in CPR and First Aid. A qualified health supervisor is on-site and a doctor is on call if illness or injury requires additional medical attention. Parents will be notified in the event of an emergency. Routine health care and medications are administered by the health supervisor. Medications are kept in a locked cabinet at the health center. Prescription medication must be in the original container, clearly labeled with camper’s name, prescribing physician, and directions for dispensing. The health center is stocked with over-the counter medications to treat common maladies. A4 Howismy child’shealth monitored? Q4 Whatifmy daughter hasspecial needs? Q3 Special needs include dietary restrictions, health conditions, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, behavioral issues, etc. We are dedicated to serving all girls at our council camps and accommodations can be made in many cases. Please contact the camp director for more information prior to registering. A3 We hire talented, caring adults who are selected on the basis of their experience, ability to serve as role models, and genuine desire to work with children. Training includes activities, programming, outdoor skills, songs, games, First Aid and CPR, team building, age-level characteristics, and how to deal with missing home. Staff that facilitate high adventure/ specialized activities are required to have additional training and certifications. Whowilltake careofmy child? Q5 A5 Parents often have a difficult time sending their daughter to resident camp. These questions may help you in deciding: • Can you relax and enjoy yourself when your daughter sleeps overnight away from home? • Are you prepared to be away from your daughter for several days? • Are you prepared to have contact only through letters and care packages? • Do you believe Girl Scout camp provides girls with a fun, rewarding experience that builds girls of courage, confidence, and character? • Are you willing to trust the camp staff with the care of your daughter? AmIready formydaughter toattend camp? Q2 A2 To protect the integrity of the camp program as well as the quality of the experience, electronic devices including but not limited to cell phones, laptops/computers/tablets, mp3 players, and video games are not permitted at camp. Canmydaughter bringacell phone? Q6 A6 5
  • 7. GetOut! Girls will make new friends while at camp and may also invite a friend. Girls may request to be assigned to the same cabin, tent, or unit providing they are in the same age level and register for the same program. Both your camper and her friend must submit their individual paper registration forms at the same time and indicate the desire to be buddies on both registration forms. The online registration system cannot accommodate buddy requests. A8 Canmydaughter haveacamp buddy? Q8 We are currently hiring for all positions including Nurses, Cooks, Kitchen Staff, Counselors and Program Specialists. Staff must be at least 18 years old or have graduated from high school. A7 Doyouknow someonewho wouldliketo liveandwork atcampthis summer? Q7 Willmy daughter earna GirlScout Badgeor Journey Award? Q9 The descriptions of sessions indicate certain awards the campers will work on and possibly earn while at camp. A9 Every effort is made to ensure that your child has a fun, safe experience while at camp. Missing home is common for children who are spending time away from their families. Camp staff receive training on how to recognize and help children overcome this feeling. Be positive about the camp experience and encourage your child through letters and care packages. If you have a concern please call the camp director. Refunds are not given if a child is picked up early. A10 Whatifmy daughter misses home?
