SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
DRA Safety Specialists have developed a Safety Management
System (SMS) called Safety Direct TM,
designed for use by business-
es , councils and schools. The intention of this SMS is to develop
systems that will help your company comply with the statutory re-
quirements of the Work Health and Safety Legislation and is compli-
ant to AS 4801.
This product is membership based and provides a vehicle to share
documents in order to achieve best practice in terms of safety thus
reducing injuries.
SAFETY AUDITING
DRA Safety consultants are Internationally recognised Exemplar
Global OHS Management Systems auditors . We are also licenced to
perform Self Insurance Audits and Pre Qualification – Construction
Audits (PQC). We believe that the purpose of safety auditing is not
to find out “who is doing what” incorrectly so they can be punished,
but rather to identify work procedures that could be changed to as-
sist in creating a healthier and safer work environment for all em-
ployees and the public.
The types of audits which can be conducted are as follows:
Self Insurance Audits for QLD Self Insurers
Pre-Qualification Audits- Construction (PQC)
Management System Audits using the National Audit Tool,
TriSafe or AS/NZS 4801
Specialist audits for Confined Spaces, Work at Heights, Hazardous,
Amusement devices, Chemicals and other workplace hazards.
SAFETY CONSULTANCY
DRA Safety Consultants can assist companies in implementing their
SMS by providing a regular consulting service. This service consists
of a site visit to identify the major areas of non-compliance, consul-
tation and training of staff, and development of a report with recom-
mendations and a Corrective Action Plan detailing actions to be
completed, by whom and by when. This systematic approach drives
companies to achieve their goals of zero serious injuries.
Specialist services can also be provided as one off consultancies.
Specialist services include hygiene services, noise, lighting and EMF
measurement., ergonomic assessments, safeguarding surveys, fire
evacuation plan development and expert witness reports. If you have
a safety concern, then we can assist you or recommend you to rec-
ognised specialists.

4. DAVID RANDALL
David Randall is the Managing Director of DRA
Safety Specialists and has been involved in
the Work Health and Safety Industry since
1990 and continues to provide consulting,
training and auditing services to clients
throughout Australia and overseas.
David has a Mechanical Engineering
degree and Science degree and Diplomas of
Management / Business / Work Health and
Safety. He has held the position of Regional
Representative of the Gold Coast Branch of
the Safety Institute of Australia since its
inception in 1990 to the present day, and was
President of the SIA (QLD & NT) from 2008-
2011 and has been appointed to the Retail,
Wholesale, Hospitality, Recreation and other
Services Industry Sector Standing Committee
to represent the safety interests of this
industry at the State level.
David is currently a Government accredited
Self Insurance auditor, an RABQSA Lead
Auditor (OHS) and a Chartered Generalist OHS
STEVE PENFOLD
Steve is a Director of DRA Safety Specialists and
works within the organisation as a senior consultant
performing audits, developing safety management
systems, delivering training and providing
consultancy advice to clients.
Prior to this, Steve was working as a national risk
manager within the building materials manufacturing
and supply industry (concrete, quarries and asphalt).
He has also performed a variety of managerial
roles for organisations within this industry, gaining
practical experience and knowledge in Operations,
Transport, Technical, Quality, Environment,
Health and Safety, Information Technology,
Human Resources and Training. Steve has been
heavily involved in risk and safety management
since 1989.
Steve uses this practical industry experience in
auditing, Safety Management System development,
training and consultancy services to clients around
Australia and overseas.
