2. Who was he…
Jean Baudrillard was a French theorist who was born in
Reims, 1926 who invested a lot of his time in constructing
theories centred around social and technological
communications, mainly the affects on the social
landscape caused due to the progression of technology
until his death aged 77 in Paris, 2007.
But despite his death his theories were so untimely that
they are still being used, talked about and studied and will
be for years to come.
3. so, what was his work…
According to Baudrillard in the pre-modern world (pre
1500) that the populace could discern representations of
the real from reality as the technology was not advanced
enough for people to confuse the virtual with the actual.
In the modern world (1500-1900) industries allowed
mass production of representation (movie, pictures etc)
that could be viewed by the masses but could still more
than likely distinguish between the fictitious and the real
but in post modern (post 1900) audiences are so
saturated by representations of reality that they now
surpassed reality and subtly changing it in the process.
For example after 9:11 people described the event as a
movie rather than a example from real life.
4. Why is it important?
Baudrillards work and theory on media is so important to
the world around us because it allows us as students to
observe and learn the effect of media on us and others and
how to efficiently use medias representations of reality to
influence the populace or to not be influence like those
uninitiated in the subject matter of media.
