New York to London January 21, 1970
64. Charles Lindbergh (center) also joined us on the Inaugural Pan Am Boeing 747 flight across the
Atlantic Ocean. Lindbergh frequently flew to all areas of the world in his capacity as a Pan Am
board member and advisor to Juan Trippe, CEO (left). He was invaluable in making route and
aircraft decisions for Pan Am.
When flying as a passenger Lindbergh would use an assumed name and only ride in economy,
always shunning publicity. On a flight from London on a 747, a flight attendant called the cockpit
and said she needed to talk to the Captain. When asked about the problem she replied "some nut
downstairs says he is Charles Lindbergh and wants to visit the cockpit". We asked if he had any
ID, and she brought a business card to the cockpit. The card was simple; it said "Charles A.
Lindbergh, Pan American World Airways, Board of Directors". We suggested that she bring Mr.
Lindbergh to the cockpit ASAP.
65. Although Pan Am typically named its aircraft after famous clipper ships, they
gave this aircraft a special name - the Clipper Lindbergh - in honor of the
famous aviator Charles Lindbergh. Lindbergh's widow, Ann Morrow Lindbergh,
personally christened the aircraft, then registered as N536PA, and officially
placed it into service on May 6th, 1977-the 50th anniversary of his history-
making first solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927.
66. Fifty (50) years ago, these three Pan Am flight attendants worked on the
inaugural 747 flight from New York to London. At the Pan Am Museum in
2019, we all reconnected at Pan Am's annual gala dinner where these
wonderful ladies were honored. As a passenger on this inaugural, I was so
excited to participate in this amazing reunion. After that first commercial 747
flight in history, the crew posed for pictures on the tarmac. Quite by
coincidence, all three were in those iconic photos!

147. 50+ Year Search Process
Since my late teenage years, I have been
intensively curious about my biological
background
Prior to the Internet and DNA testing,
search methods were limited and
frustrating
Fortunately, I kept a thick file for half a
century of all my previous search efforts,
regardless of whether some led to a
dead end
With the development of DNA testing, I
was finally able to connect the dots and
locate both birth parents
Tom at 17 Years Old
148. For 68 Years, my daughter Briana and
granddaughter Tatiana were my only known
genetic relatives
In 2019, Briana
decided to do a
“23 & Me” DNA test
149. Briana’s closest match on her “23 & Me” DNA test was a woman
named Julie Korenstein (right). They connected and Briana told Julie I
had been searching for my birth parents for decades.
Briana and Julie persuaded me to also do a “23 & Me” DNA test. Julie and her
sister Marlene were listed as my “First Cousins” with 10+% shared DNA
150. Julie and I began comparing
Family Information
I dug out my historical adoption search files from 40 years ago. I found a letter
from my father's attorney to the Director of "Family Services of Westchester"
from 1980 where certain details about my adoption were revealed from their
legal records:
"The only information disclosed by our files is that
Mr. Lee's mother was Mary Miller, born in
Pittsburgh on January 30th 1919, the daughter of
Nathan and Julia Miller. She was of the Jewish
religion, was working in advertising production in
1951, was educated in Chicago and attended
junior college in California."
151. When we compared the information from my legal search records 40
years ago with Genealogical details about Julie’s Aunt Mary, we
realized we had a match. This amazing discovery happened
exactly on my birthday in 2020. HOW PERFECT!
152. Not all the information in the legal records
matched exactly with Mary’s factual
information in my adoption records. In 1952, it
was not uncommon for mothers placing a child
for adoption to change factual details or even
make up fictitious information (i.e. different
surname, birth dates, etc.) to protect identities
& possibly prevent future contact between a
birth child and parent. But with the information
that did match and the fact that Julie is a full
first cousin by genetic testing (DNA doesn’t
lie), that meant either an aunt or uncle of
Julie’s had to be a birth parent of mine.
153. This is the first photo

155. Using amazing photographic Software, this image is
Enhanced, Restored and Colorized and I see my birth
mother for the first time in 68 years in all her Beauty!
157. My grandfather Nathan and
grandmother Julia had six
children. Unfortunately, Julia
developed a brain tumor.
Amazingly, a century ago, they
did surgery, but accidentally
destroyed her optic nerve,
leaving Julia blind and impaired.
Nathan had to institutionalize
Julia for the remainder of her life
and decided to place all their
children in an orphanage
in Chicago.
In the photo at right, you see

orphanage including my birth
mother Mary at age 6 standing

Martin Kolton
This is the first photo

163. My Birth Father’s History
Martin Kolton was born in our near Kielce Poland in 1927
Kielce is a city in south central Poland with 194,852
inhabitants today
Martin’s family was in the leather business
164. Martin is Sponsored to Emigrate
to the United States & Joins US Navy
After the war, Martin is sponsored by a family in Rhode
Island and moves to the United States
My father enlists in the Navy and Bela reports became a
Navy Seal and a Paratrooper
Martin is deployed to fight in the Korean War probably in
the role of “Underwater Demolition.”
The Underwater Demolition
Teams (UDT) were a special-purpose
force established by the United States
Navy during World War II. They came to be
considered more elite and tactical during
the Korean War. Their primary WWII
function began with the reconnaissance
and removal of natural or man-made
obstacles on beaches prior to
amphibious landings.
165. Martin Moves to New York City
After being deployed during the Korean War, Martin relocates to
New York City in late 1950 or early 1951
Although not proven, this is most likely where Martin and Mary met
each other
I was conceived in May 1951 and born in February 1952
A decision was made to place me for adoption
