How your government is helping you

'This is exactly what is happening in St Kitts and Nevis. The PAM gang is
attempting to copy Barack Obama’s campaign theme without the depth of ideas
that illuminated the Democrats campaign. The PAM wants to attack a
government which, unlike the George Bush Republican administration, has
performed brilliantly.'
The Labour Party Government under Prime Minister, Dr. Denzil Douglas, is not responsible for the
present financial crisis that has sent the economies of all the countries of the world into chaos and
uncertainty.
Yet the Opposition Party PAM, is blaming the present government for causing the crisis. It is very
much like the unfair criticism and attacks being made on President Barack Obama by the very bitter
(and racist) Republican Party in the US. President Obama did not cause the crisis and is doing his best
to manage it and to improve the unemployment situation, and yet he is getting a lot of flak for it.
This is exactly what is happening in St Kitts and Nevis. The PAM gang is attempting to copy Barack
Obama’s campaign theme without the depth of ideas that illuminated the Democrats 2008 campaign.
The PAM wants to attack the Labour government which, unlike the George Bush Jnr. Republican
administration, has performed brilliantly. The St.Kitts Nevis Labour Party has been navigating the
dangerous waters to take their people safely to the promised land of future prosperity and sustainability.
The sad thing is that both in the United States and in our beloved country there are people willing to
listen to the nay-sayers, the prophets of doom and gloom, who like Chicken Little in the children’s
story keeps scaring people with his false alarm that the Sky is falling.
It is evident that the Government has taken this country through the worst of the freefall that other
countries like Iceland went into. Iceland had to declare bankruptcy This fate has escaped our country
and it's because of the fiscal vigilance and expertise the Labour government demonstrated when last
years financial crisis hit.
Despite being mired in legal red tape, stalled, and and at times even forestalled by repeated
injunctions, the Labour Government is coping extremely well with the realities of life during and after
the Great Global Financial Crisis. There are indicators.
Tourism is doing better. Unlike our neighbours, we are expecting more rather than less ships. We are
expecting new airlines to become our travel partners. They have potential to airlift hundreds of tourists
2. here during this winter.
We are ensuring that we maintain jobs, and that farmers and ordinary citizens have an [amnesty] (social
safety net?) program in place to cushion them in this difficult, but temporary, period. Instead of spiralling
downward as it has done in other countries, the employment level is increasing in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Indeed this government has created many improvements in the quality of life, in jobs and livelihoods,
and in what are called “Life Chances” over the past 15 years.
Where St Kitts/Nevis has been successful and other countries have failed is that we have a government
led by people with experience in managing the Federation’s affairs. To think of handing the affairs of
our twin island state to PAM [is akin to the Queen of England handing over the Royal Yacht Brittania
(need two here as its two islands) to the Somali pirates]. Alt: is akin to the British Government turning over a pair of warships to Somali
pirates
In the present financial climate, the leaders of the G8 and other developed countries want to know to
whom they are talking. They will be asking themselves, "Can we trust these people who came into
office without any programme?" They will not listen to upstarts, people full of talk but with nothing
else - people with no track record of achievement, no experience in world affairs and no expertise in
anything but flogging chickens and bankrupting businesses. It is not only in small countries that “who
you know” is the basis of how business is done. In the world of international affairs they call it
“networking” but it is still 'who you know'.
This present Labour government is placed to manage the future of St. Kitts and Nevis better than
anyone else. If you add up the party's experience in managing the country the sum total is over one
hundred and twenty years. How many years of genuine experience and expertise in governance do the
PAM people have? - less than sixty months is a generous count.
The Chicken Little machinery is not enough to run a country. The empty promise of “Change” is
meaningless without substance. It is well and truly said that tough times never last but tough people
do. The people of St Kitts/Nevis have demonstrated their toughness by surviving slavery and
colonialism.
The people of this country have outgrown the PAM and promises from them that are unfulfillable,
untrue and unsustainable. *rule of 3's. The islands people can read between the lines and know what is best.
(for them.) They will never change horses in mid-stream. *jump ship in midstreamThey will stick to proven
leadership and work together to achieve the brighter dawn and new day that will considerably improve
your prospects for the future.
President Barack Obama has said; '...you cannot change the past but you can use the present to shape
3. the future'. This Labour government has saved this country, has saved St.Kitts and Nevis from the
worst effects of the global recession. This government has the track record, the experience, the
expertise, the proven commitment and dedication that will take this country through the hard times to
the promised land of tomorrow.
Citizens of St Kitts and Nevis must not listen to those who will see this country ruined – some of them
already have their Green Cards. Citizens are those who are here for the long haul, whose navel strings
are buried in these beautiful islands. The Holy Bible exhorts, “You, who are the salt of the earth!”
Citizens will ensure that Colonel Sanders and his brood never become the Government of our beloved
country.
