Psalm 1: The Pathway to Happiness
1. What is ultimate happiness?
Happiness is delighting in the Word of
God where we Embrace the Son of God.
2. Blessed is the man who walks
not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3. He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
4. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the
judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the r
ighteous;
6 for the LORD knows the way of the r
ighteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish
(Psalm 1).
6. Blessed is the one whose transgression is
forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the
man against whom the LORD counts no
iniquity (Psalm 32:1-2).
7. Oh taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
(Psalm 34:8 ).
8. Blessed is the one you choose and bring near,
to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied
with the goodness of your house, the holiness
of your temple! (Psalm 65:4).
9. Blessed are the people who know the festal
shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your
face (Psalm 89:15).
11. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If
God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who
did not spare his own Son but gave him up for
us all, how will he not also with him
graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring
any charge against God's elect? It is God who
justifies.34 Who is to condemn?
12. Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than
that, who was raised—who is at the right
hand of God, who indeed is interceding for
us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
danger, or sword? 36
13. As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the
day long; we are regarded as sheep to be
slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him who loved us
(Romans 8:31-37).
15. “For he sees that even the wise die; the
fool and the stupid alike must perish and
leave their wealth to others. Their graves
are their homes forever, their dwelling
places to all generations, though they
called lands by their own names. Man in
his pomp will not remain; he is like the
beasts that perish” (49:10-12).
16. Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD and against his Anointed,
saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
17. He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
“As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”
18. I will tell of the decree:
The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations
your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession
You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter's
vessel.”
19. Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him
(Psalm 2).
20. What is ultimate happiness?
Happiness is delighting in the Word of
God where we Embrace the Son of God.
