Do you feel like there is always too much to do and not enough time to do it all? Do you feel like you don’t always pay attention to the important stuff?Is your to do list too long?When you wake up, do you have to hit the ground running (&/or have the feeling of overwhelm, wanting to pull the covers over you head?

With ADHD and without it? Why is this important to know? _______________________________________________Do you feel like a double agent? (pro’s and con’s of ADHD)
All of the aspects of your life are interconnected – i.e. how happy you are at home can affect your performance at work, etc. __________________What if we added a whole bunch of boxes… made it look overwhelming and then simplify to our wheel of 4?
Because at the centre of your life is you. Its your job we are talking about. Your finances. You relationship with the people in your life. Of course each of these things also play a part in the quality of those aspects – your boss, your spouse, your friends ... BUT in life we can only ever start with ourselves. _____________________________________________It really is ALL ABOUT YOU and that’s OK!Maybe just hit on the it’s YOU and then move from this to the next slide and then go back to the info mentioned above
More importantly – no one thinks about changing their point of view – they just accept it as it is, as if it were gospel truth. Point of view affects everything – how you think, act/react, deal with situations. Is your attitude …. Serving you well in life?
We’re not here to change you. We are here to help you change your life – transform your ADD so that you can not only manage your life better with it, but thrive with it. Its important to know that ADD is only a part of who you are and not the whole of it. It does not define your identity anymore than your physical description could be explained by just your legs. However, it does play a key role in contributing to who you are - it describes your brain wiring – in other words, it describes how the command centre of your life works. And your command centre does not operate the way other people’s do, though there may be some similarities. __________________I’m not sure about without ADHD …to me you can’t separate it, maybe the +/-’s of it instead…Also think it can help folks reframe how they view ADHD, not just the negative aspects… I used to say ADD isn’t all it’s subtracted to be heehee
Focus on cons because of….Past experiences- feedback we have gotten from others overtly or indirectly (parents, teachers, employers, spouses, etc)- society – it is structured to suit the needs of the 90% norm who can sit down and do what their told with ease__________How is it getting in your way? Hallowell – “Creativity is impulsivity gone right”Because of distractibility we have lots of ideas, we see connections that others may miss- we have curiosity that can lead to innovation - we often “hop to it” while others sit around planning/thinking- we often have a greater connection to inner intuition that guides us
(Embracing your OS: operating system). Force yourself to run like a PC or let yourself be a Mac and do all the wonderful things a Mac does in its own way????--------------------------------If you’re a Mac don’t try to be a PC if you’re a PC don’t try to be a Mac
The “OS” is how we operate in the world – Attention – increases when we are interested in what we are trying to engage with – activates the part of our brain wired for the novelIntention – our attention does not always match up with our intention – “how is what I am paying attention to serving me” (PAUSE can help).Engagement – how we interact with what we are involved in. Things that affect how we engage: - Transitions – its not just attention-deficit, sometimes the attention IS there, but its difficult to switch between activities Hyperfocus – on activities or even on rumination – how intensely we engage and then disengage- Learning/processing styles – auditory, kinesthetic, etc...- Values – do we know what they are? Do our actions match up with our values and intentions (integrity)

The better it will work for you. The more self-acceptance you will find. Acceptance is important because it affects everything. Will you fight your ADD and force your Mac to run like a pc? Or will you run it like a Mac and enjoy what it can do differently?__________________Thinking of phrases that will stick… Know thyself or to thine own self be true… or something like With ADD Knowledge is anything but dangerous!

Physical Environment I am wondering if we can leave this out? JAT because w/ the next slide they could be thinking of a place of “intolerance” themselves… so they own it more it’s their discomfort (especially if someone isn’t a professional they may not buy into this pic or it could be so overwhelming they shut down)

Chunking ....Sprinting .... Set timer and tackle a task full throttle for x minutesReframe it .... Make it fun by changing how you do it. Do it to music? Make it a challenge or a game? Remind self of benefits?Get help.... Actual help or a body double.Delegate .... Know when to call in the “experts” and don’t feel bad about it. A professional cleaner makes a profession out of cleaning so is naturally better at it – frees you up to do the things you are good at. Body Double… someone to keep you company while you do it
Negative thoughts, black and white thinking, jumping to conclusions/predicting the future all interfere with being in present in the hear and now- rumination Negative tapes on a looping track (a form of hyperfocus)Cognitive hyperactivity – can be good (creativity) or challenging (stop you from focusing):- presence and focus is possible – need to think creatively and with curiosity about what activates it `how is what I am paying attention to serving me?”Hyperfocusvs too hyperfocus – hyperfocus can be our superpower, too-hyperfocus (coined by Lucy Jo Palladino in Find Your Focus Zone) is counterproductive. You know it by how easily you tolerate interruptions or can switch tasks (if you are ++ aggravated by minor interruptions, are tense, or can`t stop doing what you are doing – you`re probably in too-hyperfocus) ______________________this is a lot of informationThink/Process/DoFOCUS am I present or am I multi-tasking (to the point that I’m not really focused on anything)
