La lakers' season summary
1. LA Lakersā swim to mediocre third place but clinch play-off
spot
At the end of a long, hard and pulsating NBA season, the LA
Lakers signed off with a third-place finish securing a play-off
spot in a Pacific League of six teams. Overall in the NBA
Western Conference, the Lakers finished a respectable
seventh out of fifteenth. The Pacific League outfit racked up
47 wins and 37 defeats in the regular season which began
last October, ending in late April 2013.
The Lakersā had a bumpy return to the NBA regular season
as they struggled to notch points on the board, losing in all
their first eleven games. But, that dreadful run wasnāt to
continue any longer as the Lakersā cranked up the tempo,
mustering eight wins from fourteen games in November.
That crucial win at home to Detroit clearly set the benchmark
for success as the Lakersā attempted to arrest their rapidly
declining form in courageous fashion, toppling them by 108-
79.

2. During the festive month of December, the Los Angles
outfit had plenty to shout and splash about as they mounted
a five-match winning streak, their longest and most
successful run of the season which ran from December 14th
to Christmas Day. The Lakersā were unfortunate enough to
have fallen short against New York at home by 100 points-94.
However, you would have expected the turn of the year to
bring continuity when it came to form for the Lakersā. But
instead, they had a bitter-sweet experience of the good, the
bad and the downright unfortunate. The Lakersā lost their
first six games, albeit only by close margins having banged in
plenty of points. Although, they did manage to get some key
wins during their inconsistent run as they tried to make one
massive push towards the play-offs.
In the Lakersā case, March was a very crucial month as this
was where many teams in the Pacific League and other
leagues in the NBA would learn their fate(s). The LA Laker
stars got off to a flying start battling out a close fought tie
with Atlanta and bravely sinking them 99-98. The next eight
games would see six Lakersā wins and two defeat ā now
thatās what I call play-off and champion-like form.
LA Lakersā appeared to be tailing off towards the end of
March as they lost four games out of their last six, winning
only two. One notable defeat included the game against
Washington where crucial points were dropped in a 103-100
beating.
Then came the business end of the season, which was
looming higher and nearer on the horizon than ever. The LA
3. Lakersā showed strong charisma, self-belief and
determination to secure that all-important play-off spot by
putting together another fine string of performances. This
time the Lakersā gave it their best shot, hitting top gear by
winning seven of their last eight games in the regular season.
Great form to be entering the play-offs in surely? Although,
finally it just wasnāt to be, as the Lakersā lost all four of their
play-off matches against the mighty San Antonio Spurs who
topped the South West League. Their final defeat against the
South West League victors was an 82-103 toppling which all
but sourly blew away the Lakersā play-off hopes.
