This document outlines the themes and motions debated in various rounds of the Kuching Interschool Debate Championship (KIDC) 2016. The rounds covered topics such as social issues, education, indigenous cultures, disabilities, and religion. In the finals debate, the motion was "THW allow ex-believers to sue religious organizations whose religious teachings have led to financial or emotional ruin."
6. • THW reboot comic characters as racial /sexual
minorities (Chinese Superman, Indian Batman,
Gay Hawkeye)
• THBT allies shouldn’t speak on behalf of social
justice groups (feminism, black lives matter,
LGBT rights)
• THBT the LGBT community should buy up
residential/commercial areas to create LGBT
exclusive communities
9. • THW allow graduates to sue their universities when
they fail to obtain gainful employment in the field of
their study within 5 years of their graduation
• In poorer neighbourhoods ,TH prefers an education
system that emphasizes on community development,
rather than self-achievement (higher wages, better
services, promotion)
• Instead of telling students they can be whoever they
want, THBT teachers should lower student’s
expectations according to their background (socio-
economic status, learning disabilities)
12. • THW offer jobs & housing in cities to the
indigenous currently living in rural areas
• TH supports the commercialization of indigenous
culture (Rainforest Music Festival, mass
production of native American garments, making
Australian aboriginal culture the forefront of
tourism marketing)
• THW actively preserve indigenous art in it’s
traditional form instead of adapting to modern
sensibilities
15. • TH regrets the use of the disabled as
inspiration in motivational talks
• THBT the clinically depressed should be
allowed to demand for euthanasia, despite
not suffering from any terminal illnesses
• During tragedies, THBT social media platforms
should flood newsfeeds with uplifting and
happy content
18. • THW ban religious based charities from operating
in economically depressed areas
• THBT religious preachers should not use the fear
of hell to get people to do good deeds
• THW allow ex-believers to sue religious
organizations whose religious teachings have led
to financial or emotional ruin (never-ending
donations to televangelists, death due to the
prohibition of blood transfusion by Mormons)
