Population Action International Applauds Senate Decision to Restore
U.S. Funding to the U.N. Population Fund
“Today’s Senate vote of XX-XX on the Bingaman amendment to restore U.S. funding to the U.N.
Population Fund (UNFPA) demonstrates that partisan politics can be pushed aside when the lives of
countless women and children in the developing world are at stake.”
“We are hopeful that passage of this amendment will foster a clearer understanding of UNFPA’s
mission and end the use of false allegations to defame the organization. By clarifying the
ambiguously written Kemp-Kasten amendment, the Senate has closed the loophole used by
President Bush to unjustifiably cancel the U.S. contribution to the Fund for three consecutive
years.”
