1. OCTAVIAN GOGA 1881-
1938
Goga was detained in the winter of 1911 for a month in the
Senghedin Penitentiary, where he was visited by Caragiale, who
protested in the article "Intentional Situation" against the
arrest. Two years later, in 1911, Goga was again arrested in
Szeged.
After the outbreak of World War I, Goga settled in Romania,
continuing from there to fight for the liberation of Transylvania
and for the completion of state unity. Because of his political
activity in Romania, the government in Budapest challenged
Goga - a Austro-Hungarian citizen - a high treason trial, being
condemned to death in contumacy. He joined the Romanian
army and fought as a soldier in Dobrogea. At the end of the
hostilities and the signing of peace in Bucharest, Goga had to
leave Romania, leaving for France. In the summer of 1918, the
National Council of the Romanian Unity was formed, a forum of
pressure on the great powers for the achievement of the
Romanian state unity. At the beginning of 1919, Goga returned
to reunified Romania.
The government chaired by Goga, dismissed after 44 days, was
created by the National Christian Party resulting from the
merger of the National Christian Defense League (headed by
Alexandru C. Cuza) and the National Agrarian Party (led by
Goga) on 14 July 1935 in Iasi, .
