• NETS-T Standards: In participating in the workshop participants will work on the
following NETS-T Standards;
• 3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and
work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital
society.
• c. Teachers communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students,
parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.

4. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THIS WORKSHOP
• Purpose: This is a professional development workshop for teachers that will
provide an introduction digital communication with parents and other
stakeholders in the school setting.
• Objectives:
• Participants will understand the value of utilizing digital technology to
communicate with stakeholders
• Participants will create their own blog to share what is happening in their
classroom with stakeholders

5. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO ENGAGE PARENTS AND
OTHER STAKEHOLDERS?
• School in the 21st Century is an ever changing world. Since the wide spread
adoption of smart phones more people than ever before have access to the
internet. With this connectivity it is important that we engage parents and other
stakeholders through this new communication avenue.
• Students, especially young students, are forgetful and will inevitably forget to give
their parents important handouts and flyers. Utilizing a blog for your classroom
allows you to post important information easily and have it sent directly to the
parents phone.

6. INTRODUCTION TO CREATING A WIX SITE
• Go to www.wix.com
• Create a profile using whatever email and password you would like, I suggest
your school email.
• View the following video about how to set up your account:

• Once you have watched the video please return and press the “thumbs up”
button so I know you have viewed the video.

7. UPDATING AND DESIGNING YOUR NEW WIX SITE
• Now that we have the site created we can update some of the settings and make
our first blog post.

8. WORK TIME!
Take a few minutes and explore the layouts and design opportunities, be sure to
listen for me to bring us back together for a final chat.

• I’d love to hear some examples of ways you think you can use your new site to
engage all stakeholders in the classroom.

feature or use for their new site.
