3. Language
• The examinations are in Finnish (or Swedish) language, so the first
thing is to learn fluent Finnish.
4. Theoretical examinations
• There are altogether 10 theory exams:
• cariology
• endodontics
• prosthodontics & stomatognathic physiology
• oral biology (incl. periodontology)
• oral- and maxillofacial surgery
• oral public health
• pedodontics
• orthodontics
• dental radiology
• oral pathology
The fee for each theory exam is
at present 75 €, altogether 750 €
for 10 exams.
5. Exam times:
• At the University of Helsinki the theory exams are twice a year, in May
and in September.
• At the University of Turku in January or February
6. After all the exams are passed:
Practical exam that has to be passed as an entity including
periodontics
cariology
endodontics
oral- and maxillofacial surgery
prosthodontics & stomatognathic physiology
The practical exam is organized annually in Helsinki in November and
in Turku in March- April
The fee for the practical exam is at present 1115 €.
7. After the practical exam
• Exam in health care administration and in the Finnish legislation
concerning health care (200 €)
• Exam in radiation protection (100 €).
The whole examination process has to be done within 3 years starting
passing the first theoretical examination
8. A special course in University of Turku
• The education of qualification can be done only in Turku. The course
includes all the required theory tests, practical tests (and possible re-tests),
lectures and simulation practices

9. How to apply to Turku?
• Through The Employment and Economic Development, TE-office
(Katariina Vainio) (labor political education, no discounts for VR for
example).
• It is for your advantage if you have done couple of accepted theory
tests, you have experience of working in Finnish community (HH) and
your Finnish is at least YKI 3.
• Interview and practical assignments are done at Turku’s Institute of
Dentistry. The assignments are graded and according to these results
and the interview, four (4) students are selected for the education.
10. About the education in Turku
• The education lasts for 150 days and studying is full-time. Holiday-
travelling is not permitted during the course.
• Literature requirements are found from the links in the beginning.

• The qualifying student has to do following theory tests: cariology,
endodontics, prosthetic dentistry, stomatognathic physiology,
periodontology, oral pathology and oral radiology, community
dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral development and
orthodontics.
11. • Also practical interviews, including cariology, endodontics, prosthetic
dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery and periodontology.
• After these interviews administration and radiation protection
legislation’s theory interviews are done.
• In the interviews the student can use only basic dictionary.
• When all tests are done and accepted, the student can apply for
partial license (from Valvira).
