4. Advantages of Authentic Materials
a. They have a positive effect on learner motivation because they are
intrinsically more interesting and motivating than created materials.
b. They provide authentic cultural information about target culture.
c. They provide exposure to real language rather than the artificial texts
found in created materials that have been specially written to illustrate
particular grammatical rules or discourse types.
d. They related more closely to learner‟ needs and hence provide a link
between the classroom and students‟ needs in the real world.
e. The support a more creative approach to teaching. Teacher can
enhance their potential in developing an activity on their teaching style
or student learning styles.

5. Disadvantages of Authentic Materials
• A. They may be too culturally biased, so unnecessarily difficult to
understand outside the language community.
• B. The vocabulary might not be relevant to the students immediate
needs.
• C. Too many structures are mixed so lower levels have a hard time
decoding the texts.
• D. Special preparation is necessary which can be time consuming.
• E. With listening: too many different accents.
• F. The material can become outdated easily, e.g. news.

6. Created Materials
Created materials as the name implies have
been produced purely and simply to be used
in the classroom.
Created material refers to textbooks and
other texts specially designed for learning
purposes. It is designed generally based on
the syllabus and provide a systematic
coverage of teaching items. The language of
created materials has usually been modified
and adjusted according to the learning
objectives and level of learners and their
ability.

8. Disadvantages of Created Material
• There are some disadvantages of created material, such as:
• 1. Teacher created material are not real and may be not interesting.
• 2. They do not provide the opportunity to gain real information and know
what is going on in the world around them.
• 3. They do not reflect the changes in language use and do not give the
learner the proof that the language is real.
