BUSINESS FOCUS
Military and Security Growth for Codan
Fiscal year 2010 has been a busy one for the Codan Military and Security
Division which focuses on providing affordable, reliable HF radio security
and protection communications products for defense and government
organizations worldwide.
Codan relocated its United States headquarters for its high frequency (HF)
Military and Security Division from Manassas, Virginia to Pittsford, New
July 2010
2. York, which is a suburb of Rochester, New York. We made the decision to
move to Rochester because it is an excellent technology hub for the HF
radio communications industry.
Codan celebrated its 50th
anniversary this Fiscal Year. We were proud to be
named the Asia Pacific Tactical Military Communications Provider of the
Year by Frost and Sullivan, an industry analyst group.
Marketing
Marketing is also an essential element of our support for dealers and
distributors. We recently produced a very effective advertising campaign
for Signal Magazine, Armada International, and a number of other defense
trade magazines and periodicals.
Tradeshows
Codan participates in a number of US domestic and international trade
shows. Currently, we are following up business opportunities from the
Eurosatory trade show in Paris (June 14–18, 2010), where we were well-
represented and visited by customers, media and business partners alike.
In the new Fiscal Year which begins July 1, we plan to expand this visibility
through various international trade shows including DSEI and IDEX, in
addition to a large number of stateside shows.
Advertising
The "Today’s Mission:" advertising theme continues to be a very powerful
message. This theme aims to communicate the message that our products
fulfill and exceed the expectations of a variety of missions that support the
safety and protection of communities throughout the world.
3. Public Relations
In addition to advertising we have also published a number of articles.
These articles have focused on core technologies unique to Codan
including the (Insert new products). Please contact us if you would like a
copy of any of these papers or request a paper on any specific technology
or product. We would also like to know if you have a magazine or
publication local to your region that would benefit our visibility by
placement of an advertisement or article.

NEW PRODUCTS
This Fiscal Year saw a number of new product developments including the
launch of the Codan MRX series of high frequency (HF) radio systems.
The MRX Series of HF Radio Systems
The MRX provides an integrated deployment package that supports remote
communications needs, from secure voice transmission to email, fax, GPS
tracking, and telephone support. The system is self-contained and easily
configured for operation, and provides interoperability to any combination
of HF, very high frequency, and ultra high frequency radio networks.
The MRX series is specially designed to deliver highly deployable, scalable
and advanced HF communications for remote headquarters applications.
The affordable and innovative design supports high quality voice
transmission, email, facsimile, GPS tracking and telephony. Integration of
the Radio Interface Unit (RIU) gateway presents advanced interoperability
capabilities and interfaces to existing ground infrastructure and legacy
communications systems.
AES Encryption and MELPe Digital Voice (DV) Now Available
In January, Codan released a new DV AES-256 Encryptor, to further
complement the encryption options available across its portfolio of
manpack and NGT transceiver systems. The encryptor, internal fit,
5. supports 256-bit AES encryption with integrated MELPe (Mixed Excitation
Linear Predictive enhanced) digital voice.
Codan’s NATO STANAG 4591 MELPe 1200/2400 bps digital voice provides a
significant improvement in voice quality, vital for mission critical calls, and
enables good quality digital voice versus traditional techniques typically
used in harsh noisy environments. We were recently awarded our first
contract.
Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Provides 65 hours of Operation
In February, Codan released a new 17 Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate
(LiFePO4) rechargeable battery weighing 2.5 kg. The 17 Ah battery
provides 65 hours of operation from a single charge for its 25 W High
Frequency (HF) 2110M manpack transceiver (128-bit CES configuration). It
is lighter than a standard 13 Ah NiMH battery, provides 30% more
capacity, and maintains the charge 5 times longer when in storage. With
the 2110M's smart battery interface, the user can view critical data
including battery life expectancy based on the normal field operational
scenario of 1:9 Tx:Rx (utilises existing chargers).
High frequency radios have traditionally been larger and weighed more
than squad and section level radios. This is now changing to meet the
requirements of foot patrols, where the ability to lighten the load provides
greater operational flexibility.
Codan’s 2110M manpack transceiver is one of the lightest, feature-rich HF
radios available today, coupled with a highly capable weight-to-
performance ratio. The 2110M transceiver weighs just 2.9 kg, at least a
quarter less than other HF radios, and when combined with the 17 Ah
LiFePO4 2.5 kg battery offers 65 hours of operation in a 5.4 kg package.”
3040 Automatic Whip Antenna
New this quarter is the 3040 Automatic Whip
Antenna, which is a Low Profile alternative to
the highly successful 9350 antenna. The 3040
operates with both the NGT and 2110 family
of radios. With a 70% reduction in height and
almost half the weight of a 9350, the 3040
provides flexibility to installations.
3524 DC-DC Converter
To meet the demands of the Military market,
Codan has released a new DC-DC Converter,
the 3524. With additional qualities of military
connectors for Level 1 Line replacement, the
unit is fully sealed enabling it to meet the
demands of military vehicle installations.
Supporting cables are also available.
3160 Product Enhancement
The 3160 125 W Power Amplifier has
undergone a recent redesign and release to
ensure it meets the expectations of the
military market. The redesign sees
thumbscrews for quick release to meet Level
1 line replacement and a separate military
6. power connector for the new external fan. In addition, the RF output
socket has been replaced with an N-type connector. A new mounting plate
for the manpack cradle supports fixing points for the quick release and 19-
way expander module.
KMS – Key Management System
The Key Management System has been
designed to allow Crypto and Hopping Key
Management by the customers Crypto Custodial.
Supporting 128 bit CES, 256 bit AES and 128 bit
Frequency Hopping keys. Password protected
for opening and editing, with Triple DES
Encrypted Key Fill files, the systems design has
been based upon customer security.
KMS also incorporates two levels of security for
programming radios — “Group” and “Strong”. Group allows for radios to be
programmed with the same admin pin. Strong not only needs the admin
pin, but also uses the radios ESN (Electronic Serial Number), allowing key
fill files to be generated specific to a radio or a group of radios. ESN’s and
Station ID’s can be maintained in an excel spreadsheet and imported into
KMS, therefore simplifying management of the radio networks.
PRODUCT RELEASES AND UPDATES FOR QUARTER 3 AND 4
Shock Mounts
Supporting manpack cradle for 25/125 W systems, separate
mounting of 3160 power amplifier and 3041 Antenna Tuner for
armored vehicle installations.
3520 Power Supply
The new 3520 power supply has been designed for installation
into vehicles as well as base stations. Using the manpack form
factor, the 3520 power supply uses the existing manpack cradle
for mounting into vehicles where AC/DC supply is required or in a
stack formation for base stations. With military connectors, the
3520 also provides an auxiliary socket for powering speakers.
Ruggedised Chargers
3523 3 Ah AC fast charger and 3522 1 Ah DC-DC charger are
being designed to meet field requirements of both Security and
Military markets. The units are fully sealed with military
connectors.
KFS — Key Fill Software
KFS allows for the “Ease of Deployment” of Encryption and
Hopping Keys running from a PC. Supporting key fill files
generated by KMS (Key Management Software), KFS does not
allow the end user to view/edit the keys, only fill the radio
supporting matching Admin PIN and where a “Strong” fill has
been used, matching ESN (Electronic Serial Number).
3590 DV AES 256 Encryptor
The 3590 Digital Voice AES 256 Encryptor is being designed to
allow 3rd
party radios to be interoperable with Codan's internal
unit deployed in the 2110/2110M and NGT platforms. The units
design will allow it to be used in manpack, vehicle and base
station deployments.
Military Catalogue
Currently in development with anticipated release by the end of
September 2010.
