Re: Susan Scanland MSN, CRNP, GNP-BC, CDP, CSP
To Whom It May Concern;
As a physician and teacher, I have been asked to write countless recommendations. None have I
undertaken with level of enthusiasm as I do with this recommendation for Susan Scanland MSN,
CRNP, GNP-BC, CDP, CSP with regard her appointment in the Department of Nursing at the
University of Scranton.
Susan would be a fantastic addition to your faculty as her expertise in the area of geriatric
pharmacology especially with regards antipsychotics is exceptional. While many individuals do
possess similar knowledge, what sets Susan apart is her ability to turn this knowledge into
educational opportunities that positively impact provider behavior. This is a unique talent.
But even here Susan separates herself from others in her ability to move easily across disciplines,
making her truly interdisciplinary in her approach. As a nurse practitioners I have seen Susan
work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and pharmacists.
I have had the pleasure of working directly with Susan and witnessed firsthand her ability to
teach students. This comes from work on a nursing based CE series as well as peer reviewed
publication in American Society of Consultant Pharmacists’ journal dealing with the important
issue of management of agitated behavior in Skilled Nursing Facility residents.
Susan has the unique ability to engage every student in her classroom such that they leave with
the knowledge, tools and most important motivation to improve their delivery of care.
If I can provide any additional information please let me know. Again Susan will be an excellent
addition to your faculty for your students and more importantly the patients under their care.
Sincerely,
Richard G. Stefanacci, DO, MGH, MBA, AGSF, CMD
