Wemcouncil.org
WEMC’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) exist to bring together expert thinkers
and ‘movers-and-shakers’ to enhance and strengthen the Energy-Meteorology
nexus. Historically four SIGs, two active, but more will develop.

as a educator, teacher
trainer and public speaker on
environmental and social
issues. Handling the logistics
and organisation of WEMC’s
SIGs.
Senior Scientist & Director of
the Weather Systems and
Assessment Program with
the Research Applications
Laboratory of NCAR. Expert
in meteorology applied to a
range of applications.
Over 20 years experience in
several aspects of
meteorology & climate and
their application to energy.
Has worked at several
leading institutions such as
NASA, ECMWF and CSIRO.

3. Commitments and expectations
Expectations: Consent-based!
• An intention to participate in team meetings, following up if unable to
make it
• Perform agreed actions within timeline agreed (NB: no actions will be
agreed on your behalf in your absence, unless you gave prior consent)
• Meet deadlines (informing a lead/co-lead if you might miss one)
• No contractual agreement – individuals can ‘opt-in’ in the event of any
future project/initiative that may involve one
• Can leave the SIG at anytime with an etiquette to ensure we have a
suitable substitute team member

3. Commitments and expectations
Reassurance for teachers, specifically!
We understand teachers who could only commit a minimal amount of time, but would still
very much be welcome on the SIG. Helping with just one of these examples would be valued:
• Give your thoughts and insights as a teacher during SIG conferences
• Testing out a resource or educational tool
with students and gauging their feedback
• Contribute to a lesson plan, resource pack, syllabus etc
• Pen a blog or article about climate and energy education
• Being a tester for interactive climate/energy tools
• Delivering training to other teachers, professionals etc
You could negotiate with your line manager or senior leadership team for your SIG activities to
become part of any school-based appraisal, self-evaluation or improvement plans. WEMC
would be happy to support you in collating supporting documentation and evidence.

changes in their attitudes and
behaviour and helps them adapt to

Special Interest Groups http://www.wemcouncil.org/wp/special-interest-groups/ Wemcouncil.org WEMC’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) exist to bring together expert thinkers and ‘movers-and-shakers’ to enhance and strengthen the Energy-Meteorology nexus. Historically four SIGs, two active, but more will develop.

Core Team Education SIG KIT RACKLEY SUE ELLEN HAUPT ALBERTO TROCCOLI EDUCATION & PROGRAM OFFICER EDUCATION SIG LEAD WEMC CO-FOUNDER WEMC CO-FOUNDER & DIRECTOR Over a decade of experience as a educator, teacher trainer and public speaker on environmental and social issues. Handling the logistics and organisation of WEMC’s SIGs. Senior Scientist & Director of the Weather Systems and Assessment Program with the Research Applications Laboratory of NCAR. Expert in meteorology applied to a range of applications. Over 20 years experience in several aspects of meteorology & climate and their application to energy. Has worked at several leading institutions such as NASA, ECMWF and CSIRO.
  • 6. 2. Introduce yourselves! Wemcouncil.org Let’s get a feel for the demographics and background of interested parties! In the Group Chat, give a very brief introduction of who you are and your motivation for being here. Some of you will be invited to speak for 30 seconds as we do this!

Commitments and expectations “Sign up” commitments Wemcouncil.org “Time” commitments WEMC Membership The minimum for “effective contribution” e.g. sharing ideas in a single conference call Attending every conference call, webinar, event. Involvement in every project. In a working group / working on an aim that is a ‘light touch’ In a working group / working on an aim that requires more regular collaboration

Commitments and expectations Expectations: Consent-based! • An intention to participate in team meetings, following up if unable to make it • Perform agreed actions within timeline agreed (NB: no actions will be agreed on your behalf in your absence, unless you gave prior consent) • Meet deadlines (informing a lead/co-lead if you might miss one) • No contractual agreement – individuals can ‘opt-in’ in the event of any future project/initiative that may involve one • Can leave the SIG at anytime with an etiquette to ensure we have a suitable substitute team member Wemcouncil.org
  • 9. 3. Commitments and expectations Reassurance for teachers, specifically! We understand teachers who could only commit a minimal amount of time, but would still very much be welcome on the SIG. Helping with just one of these examples would be valued: • Give your thoughts and insights as a teacher during SIG conferences • Testing out a resource or educational tool with students and gauging their feedback • Contribute to a lesson plan, resource pack, syllabus etc • Pen a blog or article about climate and energy education • Being a tester for interactive climate/energy tools • Delivering training to other teachers, professionals etc You could negotiate with your line manager or senior leadership team for your SIG activities to become part of any school-based appraisal, self-evaluation or improvement plans.
