2. Intro:
I recently gotta tablet that runs Windows 10. As Mac user, I felt safe right outta
the box. Windows takes work to protect.

3. Use A Standard Account
● You can still use the admin password to install/uninstall things
● Apps don’t have as many permissions on standard accounts
● Easier to remove malware
● Important stuff is protected
● If you’re currently an admin

○ Make the current account into a standard

4. Turn on Firewall & Auto updates
● Auto updates can fix bugs & install patches
● Firewall helps keep stuff from coming in

5. Back up Stuff
● In case of ransomware and other malware
● Work from the cloud or external storage
● It ensures that copies of work & media are safe
● Disconnect external storage in between backups

● Safer alternatives exist
● Get iTunes for music and movies
● Stay away from deep web
● Search for free alternatives

○ Get GIMP instead of Photoshop
○ Use firefox extension for video downloads

8. Get Chrome and Firefox
● Uninstall Adobe flash and use Google Chrome’s version instead
● Get Privacy Badger, HTTPS everywhere & Ublock Origin
● Chrome has flash built-in.
● FireFox is safe & private

9. Get Antivirus or Windows Defender
● Turn on Windows Defender or Get an Antivirus
● Auto updates
● Turn on Web Protection

10. Java
● Uninstall it
● Or disable web functionality with auto updates enabled

11. Other tips
● Don’t share personal info
○ (Ex: Addresses, license plate numbers, banking info, etc)
● Use WPA2 or later for Wifi
● Bank & shop from home
● Don’t connect to open hotspots without proxy or VPN
● Make sure that the website has HTTPS or a green lock
● Be careful with posting status updates, photos, videos and other things
● Some of these tips can be implemented on Macs as well
● Be careful with USB drives.
● If your machine was brought online (eBay & Amazon), wipe it clean and
reinstall a fresh copy of the OS.
● Be nice to people while commenting & posting.
