Reverend Monsignor Jason A. Gray, J.C.D.
Monsignor Jason A. Gray currently
serves as pastor of St. Thomas the Apos-
tle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, Il-
linois. He also serves as Judge for the
Tribunal and as Episcopal Vicar for Con-
secrated Life for the Diocese of Peoria.
Monsignor Gray was ordained a priest
for the Diocese of Peoria in 1997. While
studying at the North American College
in Rome, he earned an S.T.L. in Biblical
Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1998. He has
been assigned to both parish work and chancery work after ordina-
tion. In 2004, he was sent to Catholic University to earn a J.C.L.
in Canon Law, which he completed in 2006. Monsignor Gray was
assigned as pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Peoria, and was
also assigned as judicial vicar for the diocesan tribunal. In 2009, he
was made a chaplain to His Holiness.
In 2011, Monsignor Gray participated in the instruction of an alleged
miraculous healing of a stillborn child through the intercession of the
Servant of God, Archbishop Fulton Sheen. In 2012, he was invited to
work for the Holy See in the Congregation for the Causes of Saints,
where he also worked on a J.C.D. in Canon Law.
Following the completion of this degree in 2015, Monsignor Gray re-
turned to the Diocese of Peoria and became pastor of St. Thomas
the Apostle Parish.
Dr. William L. DANIEL, J.C.D.
Dr. William L. Daniel was born in Madi-
son, Wisconsin. After earning a B.A. in
Philosophy from Saint Mary’s Univer-
sity in Winona, Minnesota in 2002, he
studied Canon Law at Saint Paul Univer-
sity in Ottawa, Ontario. From 2007-June
2015, he worked for the Diocese of Wi-
nona, holding the offices of Judge and
Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Daniel has now joined the faculty of
the School of Canon Law at The Catholic University of America in
Washington, D.C. He has published numerous articles in the area
of procedural law in various canonical journals. He compiled, trans-
lated, and edited a volume of the jurisprudence of the Supreme Tri-
bunal of the Apostolic Signatura entitled “Ministerium Iustitiæ,” with
a foreword written by His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke.
Dr. Daniel and his wife Meredith have been blessed with four sons
and one daughter.
L. Martin Nussbaum, j.d.
L. Martin Nussbaum holds degrees from
the University of Notre Dame (B.A., sum-
ma cum laude) and the University of Tex-
as at Austin School of Law (J.D., Weather
Fellow). He was admitted to the Bar in
the State of Colorado in 1985.
Mr. Nussbaum is a Partner with Lewis
Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP. His prima-
ry practice is serving churches, denomi-
nations, religious schools, and other
ministries. He serves as general counsel
for many religious institutions. He also
serves as litigation counsel, First Amendment counsel, amicus coun-
sel, and consulting counsel in trial and appellate courts around the
country. Representative clients include: Catholic archdioceses and
dioceses, including Boston, Bridgeport, Colorado Springs, Denver,
Portland, and Los Angeles; Dr. James Dobson; Our Lady of the Angels
Monastery; and, the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Nussbaum is currently a member of Legatus, Christian Legal
Society, National Diocesan Attrorneys Association, and serves as
Consultant for the Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty of the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. From 2001-2012 he
served on the Case Selection Committee of the Center for Law and
Religious Freedom.
Reverend Sean O. Sheridan, TOR, J.D., J.C.D.
Father Sean O. Sheridan is the current
president of Franciscan University of
Steubenville. He served as assistant
professor in the School of Canon Law at
The Catholic University of America from
2009 until he joined Franciscan Univer-
sity’s Theology Department as a profes-
sor in the Fall of 2012, teaching gradu-
ate and undergraduate courses.
Before he entered the Franciscan Third
Order Regular, he graduated in 1985
with a bachelor of science in pharmacy
from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. In 1990, he
earned his juris doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of
Law and spent the next 10 years as a practicing attorney in Sacra-
mento and Pittsburgh, focusing on healthcare litigation.
A native of Cresson, Pennsylvania, he entered the Franciscan Third
Order Regular in 2000 and made his solemn profession of vows in
2005. He was ordained to the priesthood in December 2006.
In 2007, Father Sheridan graduated from Washington Theological
Union with his master of divinity. He obtained a doctorate in canon
law from The Catholic University of America School of Canon Law in
2009. His dissertation, “Ex Corde Ecclesiae: A Canonical Commen-
tary on Catholic Universities ‘From the Heart of the Church’ to Catho-
lic Universities,” addresses seven challenges to the implementation
of Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Constitution on Catholic Universities
and suggests solutions to those issues.

2. His Eminence Raymond Leo CARDINAL Burke
Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke studied at the Catholic University of America and
at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood
in 1975. In 1980, Cardinal Burke returned to the Pontifical Gregorian University to
study Canon Law. In 1989 Pope John Paul II named him Defender of the Bond of
the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. He was appointed Bishop of the
Diocese of La Crosse in 1994. In 2003, he was named Archbishop of the Archdiocese
of Saint Louis. In 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Prefect of the Supreme
Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in
2010. Appointed in November of 2014, Cardinal Burke is the Cardinal Patron of the
Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
