Practical wisdom - developed through experience (not age), and self-reflection. So be foolish - but not fatally so. And share your wisdom - not just for others, but for selfish (self-reflection) reasons.

Schwartz & Sharpe (2010) 'the right way to do the right thing in a particular circumstance, with a particular person, at a particular time.'
more olders / elders than ever before (16%>65 (from 8% 1970), and given that 65 is the new 55, 28%>55)

"Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering - and it's all over much too soon." Woody Allen - time may not heal all, but it definitely helps having some time between the hurts!
can it be learned, can it be taught, or is it innate?
if you remember the 60s, you weren’t really there!
impulsiveness of youth : Nana and the FBI man who demands entry to all areas of property, enters field with bull
a gentle lesson (ie, he survives) that helps the young FBI man to learn !

Nana talking to her grandson and his girlfriend argument about Ghana
sharing is not an ego-thing

some are not searching - but will see eventually
Nana’s lesson to me about two girlfriends, and the unstated bit maybe I’m not built to be with any one person
guiding others on “the middle path” between making no mistakes & fatal mistakes – ie, healthy foolishness
growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional
age does not necessarily entail wisdom
wisdom is the outcome of self-reflection - wisdom comes not from living life, but reflecting on life (which requires a passage of time)
the unexamined life is not worth living (Plato)
sharing requires listening, reflecting and … yet more learning
make mistakes
not open to it, or at least not now
wrong timing on our part
or maybe just plain wrong – but won’t kill us, and might make us stronger (wiser)
context, complexity – rules & regulations are inadequate, eg mandatory sentencing, evidence-based medicine
less rigidity, more humility/sensitivity
sharing is a form of reflection - Kierkegaard
the adjective “practical” refers to a practice rather than usefulness!
share to care
your kids, grandkids may not remember what you think is the single most important thing
but they’ll remember something, when they need to, after you’re gone!
share to shape
Dalai Lama – think you’re too small to have an influence? try sleeping with a mosquito!
