Stephen Crittenden. Chapter 13 of Ph D Thesis written in 1981/1982 when a postgraduate student, using DSDP samples provided kindly by Dr Jacques Sigal and Dr Francoise Magniez. Foraminfera and Ostracoda were described from the "Urgonian" facies of the Early Cretaceous.

2. A study was made by me, during the tenure of my
CASE research award 1979 – 1982, of the
foraminiferal faunas of the Barremian – Aptian
"Urgonian facies" strata (15 samples provided by
Magniez and Sigal) of Site 549, Leg 80 of the Deep
Sea Drilling Project (Goban Spur, Western
Approaches). The results assisted me in the
palaeogeographical and palaeoenvironmental
reconstructions of the Early Cretaceous of North
West Europe and North America.
The results of my study were made available as a
report submitted to D.S.D.P. Post Cruise Meeting,
Scripps institute of Oceanography, La jolla ,
California. March 1982, (Dr Francoise Magniez and
Dr. Jacques Sigal) D.S.D.P. 80, Site 549. These were
incorporated by them into the published cruise
Final Report.
During the same period Prof Malcolm B. Hart and I
studied the ostracod faunas, the results of which
were published by us in 1985 in the journal:
