3. Our school is an elementary school that caters to
students from kindergarten to 5th grade. Because
UDL principles center around the idea of giving all
students an equal opportunity to succeed. These
are some ways our school will be built in order to
live up to the UDL standard.
Building structure
• Ramps and elevators in order
to ensure easy access for all
students
• Multiple open concept
learning centers in order to
promote the use of
multimedia learning and the
use of assistive devices as well
as easy access to a variety of
learning resources
• Gyms and Playgrounds will be
both sensory inclusive and
handicap accessible
5. UDL Classrooms will be structured and grouped
based off the individual learners needs and
barriers. The classroom, while still being
inclusive and unrestrictive will aim to set each
learners needs as the priority.
Classroom features
• Classrooms will be small, no more than
15 students at a time
• Students will be grouped by ability level
based off intake assessments
• There will be a classroom discussion at
the beginning of each class and then
broken off into groups
• Groups will be based off the child's best
suited learning approach and each group
will focus primarily on approaching the
lesson using the selected learning
approach
• If determined appropriate and needed
one to one groups will be available to
students
6. Classroom structure
• The classroom will be structured in a
format students will be able to hear and
see the instructor with ease
• Most classroom furniture will have wheels
in order to create a flexible learning
environment
• Students will have east access to charging
stations in order to promote electronic
devices need to assist with learning
• Visual and hearing aids will be utilized in
each classroom such as a monitor screens
and blackboard as well as speakers in order
to cater to students with visual or hearing
disabilities
• Full time teacher aids will be available and
utilized in each classroom in order to cater
to the induvial needs of the students
8. Our school will recognize teachers and staff as a
critical component of implementing UDL
principles. Educating teachers on basic UDL
principles as well as how to implement these
principles and providing the necessary supplies
and resources will be a top priority to our school.
• Not only will staff be initially trained on
UDL principles and how to implement it
within the classroom, but staff will have
ongoing UDL training throughout the year
in order to continue learning new methods
and approaches
• Staff will meet once a month in order to
collaborate and discuss potential barriers
they are struggling with
• Each classroom will have 1-2 teacher aids
who are also trained on basic UDL
principles
• Staff will have full support from
administration as encourage open
communication between teachers and
administration
10. Classroom Instruction
• Teachers will provide all students with
the same general education curriculum
but will utilize the groups ( as
mentioned before) in order to provide
different formats and approaches to the
curriculum
• Providing students with different
formats will cater to their individual
learning needs
12. General curriculum will be based off UDL
principles, the school will follow a general
curriculum but this curriculum will be broken
down ability level based off intake or any recent
and appropriate assessments. This will ensure the
curriculum is flexible and adaptable
Features of the curriculum
• Flexible
• Assumes that every student learns
differently and has different skills
• Curriculum materials will be adaptable
to different learning approaches
14. Technology will be an essential part of the school’s
structure. All classrooms will promote the utilization
of technology as this supports an assistive, diverse
and supportive environment

• Lead teachers will have access
to viewing the students'
assessments if deemed
