2. SHARK WEEK!
• Grade Level- 2nd
• Subject areas- English Arts,
Science, and Special
Education
3. TOPIC
• With it being shark week I thought I would come up with a
project based learning activity that would allow my students to
learn more about sharks. This project can integrates elements
of research, ELA, science, technology, design, and planning as
students learn about sharks from all around the world.
4. PART 1
SHARK RESEARCH
• This includes 10 sharks, conservation, and general knowledge.
• Students will research specific sharks. There are over 500
species of sharks but we are giving 10 different sharks to
choose from.
• Each student will choose 2 sharks from the list that they want
to do research on.
5. 10 TYPES OF SHARKS TO CHOOSE FROM
1. Tiger Shark
2. Hammerhead
3. Bull Shark
4. Lemon Shark
5. Leopard Shark
6. Blue Shark
7. Blacktip Reef
8. Nurse Shark
9. Angel Shark
10. Great White
6. •From the two sharks that they chose they
will then list the following:
1. Scientific name
2. Length/ Size
3. Life Span
4. Habitat
5. Prey
6. Predator
7. PART 2
SECURITY FORCE SHIELD
• All 10 of the sharks will
receive a "Medal of Service"
• Most sharks decide to have
the image of the medal
tattooed on their pectoral fin.
8. WHAT WILL THEY DO?
• Each Student will be given a work sheet with the 2 types on
sharks that they chose for this activity
• They will then draw/color the image of the medal on the fin of
the shark
9. CONCLUSION
• I chose this project because I think it’s a great activity that
gives kids the opportunity to use technology to research the
different types of sharks. This PBL activity gives my students
the opportunity to use their imagination and explore the
different types of sharks that are living in our oceans. Not
lecturing in the front of the class and having my students do
this activity on their own makes for a more fun classroom.
