1. CleanOxide 75 vs
Classical Chlorine
Dioxide Systems
CleanOxide 75 is the modern, simple
method of producing practically pure
solutions of aqueous chlorine dioxide
without the disadvantages of the
“classical” methods. The table below
highlights the many advantages of
CleanOxide 75.
Cleanoxide 75 “Classical” Chlorine Dioxide
CleanOxide 75 is a pure (99%) solution of chlorine dioxide in
water (7500 mg/L). It is stable with a useful life of >30days.
Classically generated chlorine dioxide decays rapidly when
the concentration of chlorine dioxide exceeds 0.5%.
The purity and consistency of the precursor solutions allows
CleanOxide to be consistently produced with a known
concentration of chlorine dioxide.
Classically generated chlorine dioxide is diluted as it is
produced making it difficult to control the concentration
with any certainty.
No complex equipment is required to produce
CleanOxide 75.
Classically generated chlorine dioxide requires complex
and expensive equipment.
The precursor solutions are certified and approved to
the highest quality standards (including European
Regulation EN12671).
Toxic and impure chemical compounds are often used to
generate chlorine dioxide by classical methods.

There are several “classical” methods of chlorine dioxide production.
All these methods have advantages and disadvantages but, in general,
their limitations have restricted the widespread use of chlorine dioxide
despite its many well-known advantages over conventional methods of
water disinfection such as chlorination.
2. Clean oxide 75 “Classical” Chlorine Dioxide
The purity of CleanOxide 75 Solution is 99%.
Classical chlorine dioxide solutions are often only
65% pure.
CleanOxide 75 can be generated on site or supplied ready
mixed. Provided the recommended storage conditions are
observed, the solution has a useful life of greater than
30 days.
Classical chlorine dioxide must be generated on site
and used immediately. Typically it has a half life of only
a few hours.
CleanOxide 75 is a 0.75% solution of pure chlorine dioxide
in water. The only impurities are sodium sulphate, a small
amount of sodium chloride and less than 75mg/L
sodium chlorite.
Classical chloride dioxide solution contains high levels of
chlorite, chlorate, chloride and free chlorine.
CleanOxide 75 does NOT contain free chlorine.
Classical chloride dioxide contains free chlorine and
therefore has many of the disadvantages associated
with chlorination of water.
CleanOxide 75 is not corrosive when dosed at the
recommended rates.
Classical chloride dioxide is very corrosive.
membranes, ion exchange media or active carbon beds. It
can be used to control biofouling in these situations.
Classical chlorine dioxide damages reverse osmosis
membranes, ion exchange media and active
carbon beds. It cannot be used to control biofouling
in these situations.
