The Western International School of Shanghai is a new independent,
co-educational school, which offers an international curriculum for Nursery
through Grade 13, taught by experienced and caring international staff.
We are accepting applications for the 2007-2008 school year for Grades Nursery (Half-Day and
Full-Day 3 year-old program) through Grade 8. We will be expanding upward in the ensuing years.
WISS is exploring the Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma
programs of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) in order to apply for candidacy
status. Maximum class size is 16 students for Nursery, 18 students for grades Pre-K through
Grade 5 and 20 students for Grade 6 and above. all taught by a team of two highly qualified and
experienced teachers.
Our school is located in Xu Jing Town of the up-and-coming Qing Pu district, west of Shanghai,
approximately 10 minutes from Hong Qiao Airport and 15 minutes from the Shanghai Racquet Club.
We are directly off the Hu Qing Ping Highway, near the A5 Expressway. WISS offers internationally
designed facilities for academics, athletics, arts and future boarding students.

documents you will read below are our mission and objectives, which will clearly suggest our
aim to prepare young people for a world which may be even more remarkably transformed in the
coming years.

4. Bordered by rivers on two sides of the school grounds, WISS offers a spacious
rural campus that is unique in design.
The facilities have been designed by the Weimar Architects AG in Weimar, Germany. (www.
weimararchitects.com) Weimar is the home of the Bauhaus University, which brought to life the
most influential architectural movement of the 20th century. Weimar has worked with the school
creators to design an elegant multifunctional facility that serves the educational needs of students
at every level.
The first phase of construction includes the Kindergarten/Lower Primary Building. Each class
has a suite which includes a 59 sq.-meters eating and multi-function room as well as a 130 sq.-
meters learning/activity room. Additionally the building has a 210 sq.-meters indoor play area and
computer and other multi function rooms. There are computers in each classroom as well.
