Hari Om
My highest Salutations to Lord Narasimha, the destroyer of ignorance and in whose abode resides the
Goddess of abundance. My repeated Salutations to him at whose service are Gods themselves at all
time. Also, my scaled Salutations to all Gods that includes Hanuman, Sarasvati, Garuda, Sesha, Rudra,
Narada, Dhruva, Prahalada who are always brimming with devotion and are never exhausted at the
service of Lord. My utmost Salutations to Srimad Acharya and all the Gurus of the lineage through
whom the nectar of Bhagavatam Shastra has been flowing. I seek the shelter of Guru Raghavendra at
all times.
SBM 01 - The arrival of Srimad Bhagavatam and its Greatness
Bhagavatam is the king of all Puranas that removes ignorance, confers the pinnacle of knowledge &
devotion in The Lord and also vairagya or dispassion in all worldly attractions & illusions that keep
entangling with samsara the cycle of death & birth. It brings happiness. The amrutha or the nectar that
was received after Kshirasamudra mathana or churning of Milky Way is not comparable to the
greatness of Srimad Bhagavatha.
Its greatness has been praised in almost all Puranas like Garuda, Brahma, Brahmanda, Markandaya,
Vayu, Agni, Skanda, Padma. The Padma Purana describes the glory & greatness in a unique way. To
start as in Padma Purana, Lord Veda Vyasa calls one to pray Sri Sukacharya:
यं ज मनुपेतमपेतकृ ं ैपायनो िवरहकातर आजुहाव
पु ेित त यतया तरवोऽिभनेदु ं सवभूत दयं मुिनमानतोऽ ।
यः ानुभावम खल ुितसारमेकम ा दीपमितिततीषतां तमोऽ म्
संसा रणां क णयाह पुराणगु ं तं ाससूनुमुपयािम गु ं मुनीनाम्॥
As if feeling loss and loneliness, Lord Veda Vyasa calls Suka, “My Son”. But Sri Sukacharya who has
the attribute of Vairagya or dispassion, even to his body, walked ahead to become Sanyasi without any
reply. Being no different from God Rudra who is obliged to The Lord for being responsible to influence
the minds in all living being, answered filled with bhakti or devotion to The Lord by swaying of trees.
Salutations to Vairagya Shiromani, Sri Sukacharya.
Once upon a time, Sri Sutacharya visited the sacred place of Naimisaranya were extremely wise sages
were living.

They arranged a gathering to welcome Sri Sutacharya. Under the leadership of Sri Saunaka Rishi, who
on behalf of all rishis offered him respects, honor & gratitude, praised him for having arrived as bright
Sun, and requested him to narrate the stories of the Lord:
- That would remove ignorance or darkness;
- The cream of these stories that are divine nectar and gives the experience of its flavor;
- That brings happiness;
- Through which one gets Viveka or ability to distinguish those that confine one to the worldly attractions
and brings illusions and those that liberates one by bestowing Knowledge of & devotion in Lord with
vairagya or dispassion to all the worldly attractions.
Further, Sri Saunaka Rishi expressed deep concern and informed that the deadly Kali, The Lord of Evil
along with his followers had fully established on the earth. The ordinary human beings under his
influence had lost the track of Vaishnava dharma & sadhana or means to accomplish liberation. They
were busy, with day to day activities and earning money to feed their stomach by hook or crook which
made them evil and further entangling to the cycle of Death & Birth.
As Sri Saunaka Rishi saw a lot of difficulties in an individual’s life, filled with compassion, sought
remedies that would bring benefit and please The Lord. He told, Guru Sutacharya, the gem
called Chinatamani could give all worldly happiness and heaven too. However, if Guru is pleased, he
could bestow Vaikunta, the abode of The Lord which cannot be accomplished even by great Yogis.
Sri Sutacharya replies:
I am feeling pleased with your stainless attitude and would tell you what I have learned from my Guru
Veda Vyasa. After having evaluated the essence of all philosophies, I will tell the substance that would
destroy the fear of death & birth. The one which blossoms the bhakti or devotion in the individual and
pleases the lord. Hence, hear me very carefully, the only way to cut the head of the snake called time
which is continuously eating every individual and entangling to rebirth is the study and practice Srimad
Bhagavatha Dharma. This is only possible for those who have been purifying, become virtuous and
doing good deeds over several births.
Long-time back, Parikshit Raja became King of Hastinapur by succeeding his Grandfather Yudhishthira.
Due to the wrath of the curse of a Brahmin boy, he had to die within seven days. Filled with remorse,
he arranged a gathering on the bank of holy river Ganges at Hardwar. Sri Sukacharya arrived at this
gathering, on Parikshit Rajas' request, suggested a discourse on Srimad Bhagavatam to Parikshit Raja
as a remedy. This happened after fifty years from the disappearance of Lord Krishna and start of Kali
Yuga.
When he was about to start narration, all the Gods from Heaven under the kingship of Indra came with
the pot of Holy Nectar or amrutha. Having bowed to Sri Sukacharya, suggested him that Parikshit Raja
could have the Holy Nectar that would give immortality and requested him to give them Bhagavatha.
For which, Sri Sukacharya laughed away. He told them that the Holy Nectar and Srimad Bhagavatha
are not comparable. Srimad Bhagavatha is like trading off a Diamond Gem with a piece of Glass and
rejected the offer.
Srimad Bhagavatha is exceptional and very rare to get. Parikshit Raja, after having heard for seven
days went to Vaikunta which surprised everyone including Deva Guru Brihaspati. Though, Thkshaka,
in the form of fly bit Parakshit raja as per the curse of Brahamin boy, he was not afraid nor did he die
due to its bite. The king left the body through yoga, reached Vaikunta and to the feet of the Lord getting
liberated from the cycle of death & birth. This even surprised God Brahma. This happened in the lunar

month of Bhadrapada and hence even to date, mumukshus or one who seek moksha, arrange the
discourse of Bhagavatam for seven days and is popularly called as Sapthaha or prostopadi Sapthaha.
Once God Brahma weighed all the Puranas by placing Bhagavatha on one side and rest on the other
side and found that Bhagavatha was equal to all other Puranas. The only ones which he found heavier
than Bhagavatha are Vedas, Mahabharata, Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama, Brahma sutras.
It is believed that the Sapthaha procedure was laid out by God Brahma, established by Sri Sukhacharya
and popularised by Narada Rishi. In fact, Narada Rishi got the advice of summarised Bhagavatha in
four verses from God Brahma himself. He submitted it to Lord Veda Vyasa by reciting to him and
requests for a detailed elaboration for comprehension of ordinary. In one of his form, God Rudra took
birth as the son of Lord Veda Vyas and received name as Sukha. Sri Sukhacharya received advice
from Lord Veda Vyasa in elaborated and current form. Sri Sukhacharya subsequently advises Parikshit
Raja during which Sri Sutacharya was also present. Later, Sri Sutacharya narrates to Saunakadi rishis
in Naimishayaranya. From Saunakadi rishis, it is being passed from generations till date. This is how
Srimad Bhagavatha has arrived from the upper world.
The other way through which Srimad Bhagavatha arrived is from Lower World. God Sesha receives
advice from God Brahma, who subsequently advise Sanatkumara, who in turn advice Sankyayana and
Sankyayana advice Parashara. Parashara later advice Maytreya and Maytreya to Vidura.
SBM 02 - The Story of Jnana, Bhakti, Vairagya and the influence of Kali
Long-time back, Narada Rishi happened to visit various holy places like Pushkar, Prayag, Kashi,
Godavari, Harikshetra, Kurukshetra, Sriranga, Sethubandhana. But nowhere, he could get happiness
as Kali had invaded all the holy places by then. This was sometime after two sixty years from the time
of disappearance of Lord Krishna from the earth.
Kali is a friend of adharma or the ones who don’t follow Dharma. Together, they had attacked even
Vaishnava residing in holy places and who was supposed to be virtuous.
No one was engaging themselves in penance nor in truthfulness, kindness, charity, compassion. All
were engaged in filling their stomach, yapping, talking against the truth and giving wrong witnesses.
Also, all were lazy, dull, had lost clarity and had become unlucky faced with obstruction. They made
groups, gang-up to support themselves even if there is falsehood and had become deceptive & Intrigue.
The ascetic or monks who should live in solitary were marrying & staying with wives or having illicit
relationships with women.
The young women were heading families and insisting their own way without considering the opinion
of the elders in the family. Fancy and show-off were becoming kings and younger are leading older.
Women were being sold and husband and wife were fighting always. There were people attacking &
breaking the idols of God, destroying temples and monastery. They were also settling in holy places.

There were no Yogis, Siddha who had achieved spiritual advancement, ones with an exhaustive
knowledge of spiritualism nor Brahmins well versed with Vedic ritual. Kali was engulfing like a fire in the
forest, burning all auspicious into ash. Food and Vedas were being traded. So also, the women were
selling their beauty. In fact, Kali danced away to glory.
Having seen all this, Narada Rishi arrived in Brindavana on the Shore of Yamuna River and more
surprise awaited him. A young lady was nursing two old men. She was depressed, the old men were
unconscious and were breathing very low. The young lady was nursing these old men, crying and
looking in all direction for help. There were about a hundred women who were fanning this young lady
and old men. Narada Rishi was surprised and went there if they needed help.
Having seen Narada Rishi, the young lady seeking help, said - Hello, well-conducted one, the
compassionate, please wait for a second, I am in crisis and please help me. The auspicious one, seeing
you, all the sin will disappear and only fortunate will have your view. Talking to you all my difficulties will
disappear.
Having heard, Narada Rishi asked, who are you? Who are these old men? Who are the women around
you? What is the reason for sorrow? Please tell me elaborately for which the young lady said thus:
My name is Bhakti and these two are my children named Jnana or Knowledge and Vairagya or the
dispassionate. We have been tattered by time. See, I am still looking young and my children have
turned old. The Goddess of all rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Sarasvati, Narmada, Sindhu,
Kaveri, Krishna, Pushkarni, Tungabhadra, Sarayu, Kalindi are around me trying to nurse me in vain.
I took birth in Dravida Desha, grew in Karnataka, stayed some time in Maharashtra and became old in
Gujjara Desha. While, I had to be young and full of vigour, after the attack of Kali, I have become old.
So also my children. When I came to Brindavana along with my children, I became young but not my
children. Have you ever seen where the mother is young and the children are old! That’s the reason I
am sorrow. You appear as Jnani or knowledgeable, please let me know the reason.
Narada Rishi, having already visited and assessed the happenings on the earth assured the young
lady, Bhakti that the situation would better. He told one should gather all the courage, face the Kali &
his family and win over him like a brave soldier fighting in battle surrounded by enemy soldier. As people
with affection have been occupied with themselves and their near & dear. They have no time for Bhakti
or Devotion and hence you all have become very old. However, it is the greatness of Brindavana, as
you stepped, Bhakti sprouted in the people that in turn made you young again. As people here are now
singing the glory or the name of Lord Krishna, your children are faintly breathing.
Narada Rishi also told Bhakti that Kali and his friends would triumph and benefit in their Yuga. Sajjanas
or Virtuous who are at the brink of sadhana or means to accomplish liberation should comprehend all
happenings in Kali Yuga and practise only the good. Also, what they could not accomplish in earlier
Yugas that involved rigours austerity, meditation, yoga could accomplish by sankeerthana or merely
singing the glory of The Lord or repetition of his names. As Kali is ruling this Yuga, even the weak or
fragile ones with little service would please The Lord.
The Young Lady, Bhakti offered prayers to Narada Rishi:
जयित जगित मायां य कायाधव े
वचनरचनमेकं के वलं चाकल ।
ुवपदमिप यातो य ु पातो ुवोऽयं
सकलकु शलपा ं पु ं नता ॥
Prahalada, son of Kayadhu, had full faith in your teaching that The Lord is present everywhere and
would never let his devotee down. He held this even during his most adverse situation and won the
blessings of Lord Sri Narasimha. So too, did Prince Dhruva had your advice & blessings and became
immovable Star or Polar Star. You are generous and object of all auspicious. Your blessings will yield
the siddhi of smarane or remembrance and awareness of The Lord at all times. My Salutations to the
Son of God Brahma.
SBM 03 - The Pain of Bhakti and the Vow of Narada Rishi
The young lady, Bhakti and her two old children Jnana & Vairagya tattered with times of Kali, the Lord
of Evil, in Brindavana, asked Narada Rishi that why didn’t Parakshit raja order death of Kali and allowed
him a place on this earth? How could Lord see the difficulties of Virtuous?
Though Kali Yuga started on the day Duryodhana died, he could not influence till Lord Krishna was
appearing on earth. In fact, he had to face the law when he tried to influence adharam. He was pardoned
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/

without a death sentence by Lord Krishna. Subsequently, Yudhishthira none other than God of Dharma
& Bheemasena an avatar or incarnation of Mukhya Prana pardoned Kali without death. While he took
his first step when Lord Krishna disappeared from earth and the second step when Pandavas did
swargarohan or left to Heaven. Hence Kali Yuga started from the day Lord Krishna disappeared from
the earth. Again, during the rule of Parakshit raja, he was caught for his misdeeds. When Parakshit raja
pulled his sword out to kill, Kali fell at his feet seeking shelter and survived.
Also, the Virtuous who could not do rigorous austerity, meditation, Yoga, in earlier Yuga of Dwapara
had to get a chance to reach the feet of The Lord. Hence, the weak or fragile ones could also accomplish
pleasing The Lord by singing his glory and repeating his names very easily. Being kind & generous to
the Virtuous, the Vaishnava, Yudhishthira, Bheemasena and Parakshit raja left Kali to live and conduct
his Yuga.
Narada Rishi having clarified the above, he further explained that during the Kali Yuga all living & non-
living will lose its characteristics and strength by becoming polluted. This includes The Soil, Water, Fire,
Air, Food, Plants, Trees, animals, and human. The spiritual activities by priests have also been losing
the strength as they too have been engaging in trade for food. Also, the spiritual activities that could
yield moksha & liberate from the cycle of death & birth, are also losing its strength as the persons doing
this have no control over their senses or indria and have become greedy, miser, angry, etc. The Holy
Rivers and Holy places are losing its strength as bad people doing heinous crimes, non-believer and
atheist are settling there. Also, these places are fretted with disputes and controversy.
Narada Rishi sings the Glory of Bhakti:
Young Lady, why are you so worried! By recollecting and seeing the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna in
one’s mind all sorrow will disappear. Lord Krishna protected Draupadi in the middle of the assembly.
So too, he protected the Gopikas of Brindavana. You are the most affectionate, to Lord Krishna and he
attends you from wherever and however inferior or mean a place that you may be. That means, even if
one is not having any authority or he is poor or may not look good or have diseases or an outcast or
may be abandoned by society, but if he prays to the Lord with devotion or bhakti, The Lord will
immediately respond. In Satya, Treta, Dvapara Yugas, one had to work very hard to earn Jnana &
Vairagya. However, in Kali Yuga, one can earn only through Bhakti.
Narada Rishi recollects and says Young Lady, Bhakti that when The Lord created you, with folded
hands filled with Bhakti, you asked him, how you could serve? Lord replied that you should take care
of his devotees. You have accepted the instructions of Lord. With whomever you are there, he will get
Jnana, Vairagya for liberation. The people of Brindavana have desired you and hence Jnana & Vairagya
are still alive. So don’t be worried, we will find a way out.
Narada Rishi takes the vow, I will ensure that in each individual who takes birth in this dark Kali Yuga
with Virtue, you will be founded in them, else let me not be known as Hari dasa or attendant of Lord.
Even in the highest sinner, if Bhakti sprouts, he will surely get liberated from this cycle of death and
birth.
Neither ghost nor the spirit of dead nor evil being nor one supported by evil spirit can touch a Vishnu
Bhakta or one who has devotion in the Lord. Neither an ascetic, nor the one who has studied Vedas,
nor the one who has done good deeds can please the Lord without Bhakti. However, asceticism with
bhakti, Studying Vedas with Bhakti, doing good deeds with Bhakti would please The Lord. The Gopikas
of Brindavana is a good example where they were able to please Lord Krishna with Bhakti. Only after
thousands of birth does bhakti start budding and one would start confessing he should work on Bhakti.
If one deceives Bhakti or a Bhakta or devotee, it would not do well for them. Though, Dhurvasa none
other than Lord Rudra had a difficult time after blaming King Ambrisha, a dear Bhakta of Lord. It is
worthless to do vratas or ceremony with a vow, or go on pilgrimages, or Yoga, or homa, the Fire
ceremony or rigorous reading of scripture. However, doing the same vrata, or pilgrimage or Yoga, or
homa or reading scripture with Bhakti will liberate from the cycle of death & birth, Said Narada Rishi.
The Young Lady, Bhakti, having heard Narada rishi’s praises became hale & hearty, oozing with full of
strength & vigor. The Young Lady, Bhakti, said, Dear Narada, I am very pleased and thankful to you
without a stain. You are great and I will be always present in your mind, thoughts, and consciousness.
The kindest one, I request you to revive my sons Jnana & Vairagya.
The most generous and kind-hearted Narada Rishi, touching Jnana & Vairagya started invoking those
Gods responsible. He started uttering Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama in
their ears and asking them to wake up. While Jnana & Vairagya got up but were tired. They could not
open their eyes nor sit. They appeared very hungry and weak. Having heard Vedas, Brahma Sutra,
Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama, they sat for a moment and again laid down unconscious.

Hence, Narada Rishi became anxious, worried and helpless. Narada Rishi prays to Lord Govinda, Lord
Bhargava and seeks his help. To everyone’s surprise, a voice without a body from the sky is heard. It
says, don’t worry Narada Rishi, you will be able to revive Jnana & Bhakti. You need to perform a good
deed and will be told to you by saints. Be assured that once this is done Bhakti, Jnana and Vairagya
will recover to their glory.
Narada Rishi having heard the voice from the sky was surprised and clueless on the deed or the saint
to be approached. So too the Bhakti and all the Goddess of rivers. Leaving all behind in a safe place at
Brindavana, Narada Rishi proceeds to find the saint. He starts going from one holy place to another
and one hermitage to another talking to saints and virtuous, citing the situation of Jnana & Vairagya
and seeking if they could help in any way. But in vain. However, he reached Badri and performed
austerity or Tapa.
SBM 04 - The flavor of Srimad Bhagavatam as described by The Emperor of Vedanta
Once, the Sanakadi munis, i.e. Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana, and Sanatkumara, born out of the mind
of God Brahma visited earth to Badri kshetra for satsanga or meet virtuous. Narada Rishi was also
present in Badri and had just completed austerity or Tapa. Narada Rishi encountered Sanakadi munis,
who appeared with the brightness of thousands of Sun.
Narada Rishi says:
I am very happy to see you all. Only very fortunate will have your company. You are a great yogi and
with special knowledge.
You have acquired knowledge with the blessings of God Brahma and Lord Veda Vyasa themselves.
Always, you all appear in the form of five years old, though you are all older than those who are known
to be elders. You leave in amukta Vaikunta, the abode of The Lord. You all are always occupied with
Hari Keerthana or singing the glory of the Lord and pioneers to have set this philosophy in motion.
Always, you all relish the flavor of the Lord's lelamrutha or sport. Narrating the Lord's story has been
your goal of life. As those who are always occupied in Shastra adyayana or study of philosophy will not
encounter aging and so are you all.
With your glare and the expression of eyebrow, Jaya & Vijaya, dwarapalakas or the guards at the Lord's
door at Vaikunta had to face the curse of being born on earth. Only fortunate will have your sight. You
are full of generosity, kindness & compassion. Hence, you need to bless me, said Narada Rishi with full
of humility to Sanathkuma, the highest among four of Sanaka, Sanatana & Sanandana. Having
described his encounter with Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya, and his desire to establish them in people of all
Varna including chandalas or outcast, Narada Rishi sought the help of Sanakadi rishis to let him know
the good deed or sadhana to be done for the same.

Sanatkumara says:
Narada Rishi, don’t be worried. Gather happiness, you think that the work is, as if already accomplished.
The deed for the remedy is very easy and is not as if something new has to be found out. Lord Veda
Vyasa, himself has already made ready. Dear Narada Rishi, you are blessed. You are the Vairagya
Shiromani or the jewel of dispassion. You are the leader among Sri Krishna Dasa or the servants of the
Lord. To establish Jnana, Bhakti & Vairagya in Kali Yuga has become very dear to you and you have
initiated the process. To accomplish prosperity or wealth or even Heaven, various methods have been
established by rishis. However, the method to accomplish Vaikunta is very secret and only those who
have been meritorious by doing deeds to accomplish this over thousands of births would get to know.
Narada Rishi, I will tell you what the voice from the sky said and the good deed that you need to do.
Hear me carefully. There are several types of yagna or sacrifices or offerings. The sacrifices or offerings
done by substance or austerity or Yoga or reciting Vedas. However, the most excellent yagna and good
deed are Jnana Yagna involving Srimad Bhagavatam. You organise a gathering for Bhagavatam
sapthaha. Bhakti, Jnana & Vairajaya will become very strong. Bhakti will become very happy and live
in all virtuous. Where the voice of Bhagavatam is heard, Kali & his friends will flee like the jackals in the
forest when they hear the roar of a lion. So too, the boast, hypocrite, deceiver, lazy, one who shuns the
scriptures, atheism, lacks the dedication to achieve moksha sadhana or liberation flee like jackals when
they hear the Bhagavatam that is like a roar of the Lion. Hence, the recitation or study or hearing of
Bhagavatam will make Jnana, Bhakti and Vairagya hale and healthy! Said Sanatkumara.
To establish the principles of Philosophy on the earth, Lord Veda Vyasa assigned Sanakadi muni as
the Emperor of Vedanta Samrajya or Empire Vedanta. Now, keeping Narada Rishi as the cause they
were establishing tattva Jnana or axiom. The axiom that Srimad Bhagavatam dharma holds one falling
down, purifies by absolving the sins committed over several births, removes impediments & difficulties,
bestows prosperity, makes virtuous & leads to the Lotus feet of Lord with Moksha or liberation from the
cycle of death and birth.
Narada Rishi says to Kumaras-
I recited Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama in the ears of Jnana & Vairagya,
but they could not recover and sleep unconsciously. As every verse and every word of Srimad
Bhagavatam is an elaboration of Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama. You
are very dear and affectionate to your refugee, please clarify these doubts.
Sanatkumara says-
Like a seed of a mango tree which has all the characteristics to grow into trunk, branches, leaves,
flowers and so too the flavor of all those fruits that it is going to bare after years. But one could not eat
the seed and enjoy the taste of fruit that it is going to bare later. For that, one has to sow the seed,
water it, the seed needs to sprout, becomes a plant with leaves, grows into a tree with a trunk, branches,
leaves, flower, and so on. Also, only the fruit has the best flavor, though it gets its substance from the
flower, leaves, branch, trunk, etc. So too, Vedas are like seed, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu
Sahasaranama is like trunk, branch, leaves, flowers. Srimad Bhagavata is the fruit and tastes the best
as compared to Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama. Hence, having the fruit will
strengthen and energise Bhakti, Jnana, and Vairagya.
Sanatkumara gave another analogy –
Though, ghee has been made from milk the flavor of both are different. When the milk is heated to
separate cream. Then after fermentation of leftover milk becomes curd the Curd is blended to separate
the butter. The Cream from the milk and the butter is heated and clarified to separate the substance
Ghee. However, when this ghee is mixed with rice, it tastes very delicious. So too, the flavor of Sugar
Cane and the Sugar. Similarly, there is an exclusive taste embedded in Srimad Bhagavatam and would
strengthen and energise Bhakti, Jnana, and Vairagya. In fact, the objective of Srimad Bhagavatam is
to install Bhakti, Jnana, and Vairagya on the pedestal of mind, thoughts, and consciousness.
Sanatkumara reminding Narada Rishi, his conversation with Lord Veda Vyasa, says-
Though, of immeasurable Knowledge & Happiness, Lord Veda Vyasa, having recuperated Vedas,
compiled them into four sections, narrated Brahma Sutra, Puranas and Mahabharata having Bhagavad
Gita & Vishnu Sahasrnama pretended as if he missed something important and under an illusion. It was
you, Narada Rishi, who met Lord Veda Vyasa and submitted the four verse or chatur sloki Bhagavatam
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/

that you had received from father God Brahma and requested him to elaborate. To credit you with the
cause for the arrival of Srimad Bhagavatam, The Lord, who likes his devotees beyond measure or
Bhaktavatsala, enacted to say that his worry is gone and he will compose Srimad Bhagavatam as if
being fully satisfied with your suggestion. Also, through this, the Lord has communicated that all the
worries shall disappear and be satisfied if one takes refuge of Srimad Bhagavatam. So it is surprising
Narada Rishi that you are questioning! Anyone who hears Srimad Bhagavatam for seven days, all
difficulties and sorrow will disappear.
SBM 05 - The Buzz of Srimad Bhagavatam at Ananda, Haridwar
During the conversation between Sanakadi munis and Narada Rishi in Badri Ksetra on the revival of
Jnana, Bhakti & Vairagya, Sanathkumara suggested Narada Rishi conduct Srimad Bhagavatam
Sapthaha.
Narada Rishi fully committed for reviving and establishing Jnana, Bhakti and Vairagya filled with
gratitude said, Sanatkumaras! On your Darshana or sight, Moha or infatuation, mada or intoxication,
andakara or darkness caused by ignorance will be destroyed and one would be blessed with Viveka or
ability to distinguish. Also, the sins committed & difficulties thereof will disappear, there will be solace
and prosperity. You are always enjoying the flavor of the nectar in Lord’s stories of Bhagavatha that
you have received from your guru, God Sesha. Your sight is very rare and Satsang or meeting virtuous
like you will happen only on the accumulation of Punya or good deeds over several births including
service to jnani or the learned. I seek refuge in you to help me establish the light of Love in God or
Bhakti
Narada Rishi further declared that he would organise the Jnana Yagna, a recital of Srimad Bhagavatha
that was narrated by Sri Shukacharya to Parakshit raja during his last seven days of life filled with
remorse. Namrada Rishi praising Sanatkumara said, you have reached the further end of Vedas and
knows the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam. Humbly requesting for the guidance and narration of Srimad
Bhagavatha, Narada Rishi said, please tell me, where I should organise this Yagna? Which place is
auspicious? How long the yagna should be carried out? What are the procedures I need to follow?
Narada Rishi, we feel very happy seeing your humility and Viveka. At Gangadwara, presently called
Haridwar, on the shore of Ganges, there is a place called Ananda. There resides several Rishis, Saints,
Virtuous people, Gods, and Siddhas or who have achieved spiritual advancement. The place is
surrounded by trees, plants, and creepers filled with the fragrance of flowers. The place is very pleasant
and so are the people there. There is no jealousy, nor anger nor enmity among the people there and
generally, have no differences.
You need to organise Jnana yagna at Ananada for seven days. Just with the thought of decision or
Sankalpa, things will start happening without any obstructions. If you organise there, novel thoughts of
tattva or axiom will form in the minds of person narrating and people hearing. Such is the holiness of
the place. Also, don’t be worried that how would the young lady, Bhakti come with her very old and
unconscious sons, Jnana and Vairagya from the shore of Yamuna to the shore of Ganga. Just tell them
that Jnana Yagna of narrating Srimad Bhagavatha is being conducted and let there be no doubt in you
about their attendance. We will narrate Srimad Bhagavatam as per procedure and let us all go to
Haridwar.
Having agreed to Narada Rishis request, Sanakadi munis along with Narada Rishi left Badriksetra and
proceeded towards Haridwara, a holy place where the Ganges touch the planes. Meanwhile, the news
spread and becomes most talked about in all lokas including on earth, also in Deva Loka or Heaven
and Brahma Loka. All got to know that Srimad Bhagavatam is being organised by Narada Rishi and
narrated by Sanakadi munis at Ananada. Hearing this, all Vaishnava, extremely desirous to enjoy the
flavor of nectar, Srimad Bhagavatam, started rushing towards Haridwar.
Also, sages like Bhrugu Rishi, Vasishtha, Chyavana, Gautama, Medhatithi, Devala, Devarata,

Parashurama, Vishvamitra, Shakala, Markandeya, Dattatreya, Pippalada, Vyasa, Parashara,
Chayasuka, Jajali, Jahnu, and all saints along with their family including children and students came
filled with happiness.
The Gods responsible to influence Shastras or indoctrination of Hindu beliefs, theerthas or holy places
reached Ananda. They included ones responsible for each Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Mantras, Tantra,
each of seventeen Puranas, each of six Shastras. They came in their original physical forms as they
are in their respective lokas. The Gods responsible to influence rivers including for Ganga, Yamuna,
Sarasvati, Godavari, Narmada, Sindhu, Kaveri, Krishna, Tungabhadra, Sarayu, Kalindi, Kshipra and
also Pushkarni came. Also, the Gods responsible for holy places including Pushkar, Prayag, Kashi,
Brindavana, Harikshetra, Kurukshetra, Gaya Tirupati, Sriranga, Sethubandhan came. So too the Gods
responsible to influence directions, Dandaka & other forests, mountains came. They all came in their
physical forms. All celestial beings including Devatas, Gandharvas, danavas came.
Narada Rishi received each one with affection. As he offered the seat, everyone paid respectful
salutations to Sanatkumaras before taking their seat. Brahmachari or one who observes chastity and
Sanyasi or Saints with impassion or Vairagya bhava, Vaishnava sat in the front side and to the foremost
sat Narada Rishi as Shrothru or audience. On one side sat rishis, on another all Gods & celestial beings.
The Gods responsible to influence words like Jaya or triumph, Namaha or Salutations, Shankar or
conch also came in their physical forms. Also, the women & their children, people of all varna sat in the
earmarked locations.
Gods were pleased to see all sitting down pretty keen and with full of excitement to hear Srimad
Bhagavatam. They showered flowers of Heaven filled with fragrance & rich color which they brought in
their flying planes. The fragrance, grandeur, and excitement filled the atmosphere.
SBM 06 - The Glory of Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha
The Sanatkumara, the Emperor of Vedanta Samrajya along with Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana sat on
the dais, after everyone settling down, offered prayers as per satsampradaya or sacred customary
procedure to remove any obstruction and to accomplish the desired results. Sanatkumara started with
the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam or Mahatmyam, the sacred procedure laid out by Lord Veda Vyasa
himself.
Sanatkumara says -
Hearing from Holy Srimad Bhagavatha one will get Liberation from the cycle of death & birth. I will
narrate the glory of the doctrine of Sri Sukacharya called Srimad Bhagavatha. Hearing the glory or
Mahatmyam is very important for developing the keenness and required enthusiasm. Also, the Lord
who is in every individual blesses proximity. One has to daily hear or read from the Holy Srimad
Bhagavatam which has 18000 Verses, in each verse, there are 32 Akshara or alphabet, are divided
into 12 skandhas or chapters and was told to Parakshit raja by Sri Sukacharya.
One will face difficulty in life, only till such time, he has not heard Bhagavatam. Once, one starts hearing
Srimad Bhagavatam, the difficulties will start disappearing, strength to face the samsara or life will start
increasing. Also, one will be able to get over Kama or lust, krodha or anger, lobha or greed, moha or
attachment, mada or pride and matsarya or jealousy and become more balanced soul.
The study of Puranas, Shruthi like Brahma Mimamsa, other shastras or philosophy would not yield
proper perspective without the study of Srimad Bhagavatam. The only study of Srimad Bhagavatam
makes complete and helps to have a proper perspective. It is only Srimad Bhagavatam that gives mukti.
The house where Bhagavatam is narrated daily becomes theerta kshatra or a Holy place and people
living there will absolve all their sin. Also, the merit of doing a thousand ashwamedha yagna and
hundred vajpayi yagna is not equivalent to one-sixteenth of merit of penning Srimad Bhagavatam. The
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/

sins could reside in a person, only till such time a person has not understood Srimad Bhagavatam
correctly.
Neither Ganga, nor Gaya, nor Kashi, nor Pushkara, nor Prayaga will give merits as much as hearing
Srimad Bhagavatam. Even, just reading half or one-fourth of a verse from Srimad Bhagavatam will yield
great progress towards moksha.
In Vedas, Gayathri mantra, Purusha sukta, Bhagavata, Twelve syllabus mantra; Prayaga, the twelve
named Suns, Kala or Time, Samvatsara or full Year, Brahmana or Brahmin, Agnihotra or one who does
fire ceremony, Kamadhenu or Surabhi is wish-fulfilling cow of Heaven, the tithis of Dwadashi, Ekadashi
& Dashami or twelfth, eleventh and tenth lunar day from new moon or full moon, Tulasi or Holy Basil,
Vasanta rutu or Season of Spring, resides Purshottama or Supreme Lord. The Lord resides in these in
a remarkable way, worthy of worship. However, the Lord is omnipresent at all times.
One who practices Bhagavatam Shastra and communicate to others, the sin accrued over one crore
births will be absolved. Let there be no doubt on this, says Sanatkumara.
One who reads half or even one fourth a verse daily from Srimad Bhagavatam will accrue punya or
merit equal to the merit of offering Rajasuya or Ashvamedha. Recitation of Srimad Bhagavatam daily
is equivalent to thinking of the Lord’s attributes or Serving Goddess Tulasi or Basil Plant by offering
salutations & watering her or Serving the Cow by offering Salutations and feeding Grass & Water. By
reading Srimad Bhagavatam daily, one will be blessed to hear Srimad Bhagavata during the last days
& hours of life as like Parikshit raja that would lead to Vaikunta and the Lotus feet of Lord Govinda.
If one donates a book of Srimad Bhagavatam that would be helpful for one to recite or read or study or
teach and also if one could donate Srimad Bhagavatam in a gold case, he would get Sayujyam or
communion or closely united with Lord Krishna permanently.
One who blames or puts down or disrespects Srimad Bhagavatam, he is equivalent to an outcast. If
one who has not heard Srimad Bhagavatam during his present life, he is only a pain to his mother for
his birth and is an utter waste. Though he seems living, he is like a dead body. He is a sinner. For those
who have not heard Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam, Gods, in the assembly would talk about them,
blame them, look down and tell that he is only a dead weight to the earth said Sanatkumara.
However, as we are reading this, we need not be worried. The Lord has been kind to us, he is a Sea of
Compassion and loves us as his devotees. We are fortunate, for a minuscule deed in our earlier births,
the Lord has blessed with the Prasada or a great gift of reading these words of Srimad Bhagavatam.
Sanatkumara continues to sing the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam and says, it is not available to one and
all nor is it another run of the mill stuff. But available only to those who have done Sadana or worked
over it for over one crore births. Hence, one should hear or read as soon as it is available with all
commitment and efforts. There is no limited time and one should hear or read every day. This is what
all knowledgeable or Jnanis agree.
Due to the influence of Kali in this Dark Age, it is difficult to practice Srimad Bhagavatam daily. Hence,
the Sapthaha or limited seven days with Diksha or initiation under spiritual guide is suggested. Also,
one has to follow all procedures including Brahmacharya or vow of chastity. The merit of hearing Srimad
Bhagavatam in the lunar month of Magha is achieved by conducting Sapthaha. The merits of doing
Tapa or austerity, Yoga, Samadhi is achieved by Sapthaha effortlessly. There is no yagna or sacrifice,
Vrata or Ceremony with Vow or Tapa or austerity, Pilgrimage, Yoga, Dhyana or meditation that is
equivalent to Sapthaha.
As the glory of Sapthaha was being narrated by Sanatkumara, Something very surprising happened.
The Young Lady Bhakti came along with her two sons, Jnana & Vairagya to the assembly. Jnana &
Vairagya had regained youth, they were singing the names of Natha or the Lord continuously as “Shree
Krishna, Govinda, Hare, Murare” and were dancing in ecstasy as they entered the assembly of all Gods,
Rishis & all Vaishnava.
As everyone was surprised and thinking who they are? Sanatkumara told them that as we have
prepared to start Srimad Bhagavatam by recollecting its glory, Jnana, Bhakti, and Vairagya have
appeared here. Only on completion of narrating Glory or Mahatmyam of Bhagavata Sapthaha, Bhakti’s
children became youth and have traveled all the way from Brundavana.

SBM 07 – Lord Sri Krishna’s Presence on Earth in this Kali Yuga
The rishis, munis & the virtuous who had gathered to hear Srimad Bhagavatam, seeing the miracle of
how Jnana & Vairagya had regained their youth, were surprised with the greatness of Srimad
Bhagavatam and wondering how it had gained so much of glory, what is the reason?
Sanakadi munis says:
During the end of Dwapara Yuga, Lord Krishna having completed his objective of reducing the weight
of adharma on mother earth by killing evils had decided to go back to his abode, Vaikunta. Knowing
this, Uddhava met Lord Krishna at Prabhasa or present-day Somanath Patan and said thus:
Oh! Lord, you came to reduce the weight on mother earth and help Pandava’s. Now, something is
bothering me! I am worried! Please help me and bless me with clarity. Now that, Kali Yuga has already
started. After you arranged to kill Duryodhana, Lord of Evil has again started his influence on earth.
Also, this is his yuga, Kali would rule now. Even the virtuous will come under his influence. Again the
weight of adharma on earth will increase. To whom should mother earth take refuge? The kind-hearted,
Bhakta vatsala, devotees are dear to you. How could we live without you? The philosophy of nirguna &
nirakara i.e. Lord is without attributes & he is formless will start prevailing. This will lead the virtuous to
Hell. Please Think! How is it possible for people to live without you?
Uddhava pleaded the Lord to stay back on earth on all our behalf. Lord blessing abaya or safety to
Uddhava and told him that he will be available on earth in one of his forms and be present in Srimad
Bhagavatam. He has told that he will not go away completely and whoever does service to Srimad
Bhagavatam and take refuge, he will protect them. Hence, Srimad Bhagavata is an idol of Lord.
Everyone should have Srimad Bhagavatam. Lord is present in the form of words constituting speech.
Each word is a part of the Lord. Service of Srimad Bhagavatam by hearing, Studying, Seeing, removes
one's sins. The jnana yagna or sacrifice by conducting Bhagavata Sapthaha is a Kali-yuga dharma for
virtuous. In fact, it removes Sorrow, Poverty and blesses prosperity by absolving sins. For winning over
of Kama or lust, Krodha or anger, the best sadhana or process to achieve perfection and ultimately win
over deva Maya or confinement to death and birth is doing Srimad Bhagavatam sapthaha.
The young lady, Bhakti said to Sanatkumara,
With your Sankalpa Shakti or the energy generated for having decided to narrate Srimad Bhagavatam,
I became very strong, my sons could get rid of old age and have become youth. Please give me a place
to stay.
Sanatkumara says –
Young Lady, you are the one who gives love towards Lord. You are bhava roga hantri or destroyer of
emotional or physiological disease. All Vaishnavas who are here and who would come in future, you
should reside in them, in their consciousness. In whichever Vaishnava you reside, you would be
comfortable there. Kali will not dare to even see you. Sanatkumara, the Emperor of Vedanta Samrajya
suggested this to Bhakti to enter every Vaishnava and reside in them, in their mind, in their
consciousness and get founded in them.
One is poor, handicapped or with any sort of defects, if he has Bhakti, he is fortunate. Where Bhakti is,
the Lord will be there. He is in the bhakti sutra or a concise principle of devotion which includes Jnana
& Vairagya. Says Sanatkumara.
In the middle of the assembly, Bhakti entered all Vaishnava followed by her children Jnana and
Vairagya. This surprised Narada Rishi.
Sanatkumara says to Narada Rishi that this is the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam, what more one could
say. Srimad Bhagavatam is the physical form of the Lord. By serving this, the Lord will bestow his
choicest blessing of Sayujyam or communion or closely united with Lord Krishna permanently and there
is no Dharma equivalent to this.
As Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya entered the consciousness and resided in all Vaishnava, the Bhakti
sprouted and the Lord who likes his devotees beyond measure or Bhaktavatsala, came himself living
his abode, Vaikunta to Ananda. The Lord came in the form of Sri Krishna.

He appeared in dazzling yellow robes like that of the inner hue in a pour of clean molten gold. The
garland of exotic & exclusive flowers that would never lose its freshness. He was appearing in his dark
skin like the color of monsoon cloud, ready to pour, but with Jnana and Ananda. He was full of
ornaments, a gold waist was appearing as if holding his yellow robes. He wore gold, arm bands, wrist
bands, necklaces, crown, and fish-shaped earrings all studded with jewels. The radiance of the gold
ornaments was like that of the outer hue in a pour of clean molten gold. The jewels in the ornaments
dazzled like million lightening’s appearing at the same time in the sky and the luster of pearls was that
of thousand moons.
The Lord was in his elegant tribhangi posture formed by bending the body in four angles at neck for the
face, waist for the trunk and knees for the thighs & legs capturing everyone’s heart.
He was holding flute. Wearing Kaustubha mani or jewel which had the brilliance and splendor equivalent
to a bunch of rising Sun. His chest and hands were smeared with sandalwood paste and he looked with
a charm of over a crore of Manmathas, the God of Love.
Narada Rishi could see, those residents serving lord in amukta Vaikunta, who are the bests of
Bhagavata Dharma like Uddhava were entering and taking seats in the assembly in disguised form. As

Sanatkumara, Narada Rishi and the other Bhagavatas worthy of the sight of Lord was wondering if the
ornaments, the jewels, the flute, the Kaustabha or the fragrance of sandalwood paste adorned the
Lord's body or the Lord had blessed them with his fractional features, the Lord entered the clean and
spotless hearts of the assembled and to reside in their consciousness.
With the appearance of shoots of Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya in all Vaishnava, a higher presence of Lord
in their consciousness and the presence of bests of Bhagavata ’s the people assembled forgot their
house and in fact, they had forgotten about their body. Lost in the thoughts of the Lord, everyone was
engrossed with their mind & consciousness. They moved into transcendental state singing & dancing
in ecstasy.
Narada Rishi stood up, seeing the assembled, their emotional state and the holiness in the atmosphere,
said thus to Kumaras:
This is not, what is connected or happening of Earth. The atmosphere is like in that of Vaikunta. Lord
has entered all and everyone is absorbed in the Lord. We have just started the Sapthaha and the impact
has been surprising. People of various defects had come here. Some were dull ignorant & stupid not
knowing of Lord. Some were fraud, cheat & tricky. Some were proud of having a high ego. Let alone,
all those who had defects and sinned have got rid, even the animals & birds around have absolved their
sins.
Narada Rishi hailed Sanatkumara and acknowledged that what he had told has happened. To cleanse
the mind and remove the filth in the mind, the only remedy is to serve Srimad Bhagavatam.
SBM 08 - Srimad Bhagavatam, Redemption from Sins
Narada Rishi, concerned for the people of Kali Yuga, endorsing Srimad Bhagavatam. He reiterated that
this is the only reliable medicine for cleaning of one’s mind. With full of gratitude towards Sanatkumara
for having shown a great remedy through Bhagavata Sapthaha, Narada Rishi further asked that by
doing Saptaha Yagna, who all will get purified or get rid of sins and what sorts of sins one can get rid
of?
Sanatkumara says,
Whatever sins one has done could be absolved by performing Bhagavata Sapthaha Yagna and those
who are always involved in sins could also get rid.
The person who has extreme anger and is always boiling with rage could get his sins absolved by
Bhagavata Sapthaha. So too, the ones who are crook, criminal, always breaking the law and cruel.
Also, the ones who are looking out for bad things, people who lie, deceive, fraudsters who have stolen
the money of others and taken away others job could get rid of his sins by Bhagavata Sapthaha.
The people who are greedy, desirous of materialistic luxuries, talk bad about parents. Ones who have
not maintained the sanctity of ashramas like Brahamacharya, Grahasta, Vanaprastha or Sanyasi. The
husband or wife having illicit relations. All of them could get rid of their sins.
All those sinners, who have transgressed, abused and afflicted physically, orally or mentally could
absolve their sins by the help of Bhagavata Sapthaha Yagna and is better than river Ganga.
However, one should note that Srimad Bhagavatam has already clarified that any activity done without
bhakti or devotion towards the Lord is of no use. Also, if one does not have a feeling of remorse, accept
the sins and commit towards correction, then it would be like dipping the bottle of liquor in the Ganges.
Like nothing could purify the liquor, so too, carrying out Bhagavata sapthaha would become mechanical
and unyielding.
Like a mother concerned about her child, with kindness and generosity, Jagannatha dasaru has
composed a poem in old Kannada listing common man’s activities that would push one to the hell and
taught how to seek refuge in Lord.
Jaganatha Dasa, who lived from 1728 to 1809 was a great saint and an Aproksha Jnani. The highest
transcendental knowledge blessed by the Lord with the sight of himself, after the consent of his
Guru Gopala Dasa. While he has several spiritual literary works, Harikathamritasara is his magnum
opus. His works are with his pen name as Jagannatha Vittala.

Siri Ramana Tava Charana - Sound Bites
SBM 09 - The Choice of Atmadeva and Dunduli - Dundukari or Gokarna
After clarifying the list of sins what one could get rid of with the service of Srimad Bhagavatam,
Sanatkumara says that he would narrate a story. Hearing this, one could redeem sins. The incidence
of the story happened about 30 years back from the date of Sapthaha organised by Narada Rishi and
narrated by Sanatkumara. So, let’s hear that.
There was a place on the banks of Tungabhadra, in South India. People following dharma and righteous
path were living there. Among them was a person by name Atmadeva.
He had studied all the four Vedas and well versed in Smriti. He was bright. He lived on alms as per his
dharma. Also, he possessed wealth and spent on doing the right things. He had a wife by name Dunduli.
She had two good attributes. One, she was born into a good family and the other, she looked pretty
good. Else, she possessed bad characters. She was stubborn and always wanted to have her say. She
never considered her husband’s opinion. She spent her time gossiping and carrying tales. She was a
talebearer. Atmadeva loved her. She carried out household activities efficiently and the couples lived
together. For a long time, they did not have children.
For having children, Atmadeva started performing sacrifices and spiritual remedies. He started donating
Cow, Land, Gold, etc. for Brahmins, poor and needy. While he continued his dharma of studying
Shastra’s and donations, the wealth he possessed reduced, but they never got children. Over a period,
Atmadeva got bogged down about having children and could not do anything else.
One day being worried and tired, Atmadeva went to the bund of a lake and sat below a tree lost in the
thoughts of not having children. Same time, a Sanyasi happen to come there. Seeing him, Atmadeva
greeted him, offered his respects by falling at his feet. The saint, having seen the Atmadeva filled with
sorrow & worry, enquired the reason. Atmadeva confessed that as he has been denied to have a child
in this life, he has decided to suicide. He asks, what is the point of leading a life without a child? The
house without children or the family without an heir is a waste. Atmadeva further says I am a sinner. If
I buy a cow and rear it in my house, it will not give birth to a calf. Nor if I plant a tree it will yield fruit.
Even, if I buy vegetables & Fruits to my house, it will dry. Also, if I carry out fire sacrifice and offer
substance, those are not accepted by Gods. So too, what I donate to Brahmin and needy have not
been answered by Gods. Filled with grief, Atmadeva reasons his decision to suicide.
Having heard the Brahmin’s confession, the saint felt pity. He, through his divine vision, understood the
fate and the future of Atmadeva and advised thus, Atmadeva! Do not expect nor worry of having
children. Everyone is destined with a fate based on their deeds of past life and so are you. Don’t get
attached with materialistic happenings and have a sense of Viveka or ability to distinguish. You would
not have children even in your next seven births. This is what I have learned from your fate. So stop
worrying about having children. Look at society & history, not all parents who have got children had
happiness from them. Though King Sagara had 60,000 children, they all were burnt into ashes by Kapila
Rishi and could not derive happiness from them. So, you renounce grihastha ashrama of Family life
and adopt Sanyasa. There is peace and happiness in Sanyasa.
Atmadeva says, Sanyasi, I am now not in a position to accept your advice nor I have the ability to
distinguish. You have a lot of spiritual power, I beg you to kindly bless me with a child. Else, I will
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/
16
proceed with my decision to suicide. Also, without family & children, I don’t see how Sanyasis
accomplish happiness in life. Grihastha ashrama or Family life is the best.
Sanyasi saw that Atmadeva was stubborn and demeaned the Sanyasa dharma. However, the kind
Sanyasi said, Brahamin, don’t be so stubborn. The stubbornness will only bring unhappiness to you.
Asking a child beyond your fate will lead to untoward. This is also reemphasised by Prahalada in later
part of Srimad Bhagavatam. Prahlada advises that like one does not work for getting unhappiness in
life, so too one should not work with the expectation of happiness. However, observing that Atmadeva
was not convinced, Sanyasi concluded that it was Atmadeva’s bad fate. He took fruit in his hand and
conferred mantra on it. He gave the fruit to Atmadeva. He asked him to give it to his wife for her to eat.
He also informed him to follow the procedures of dharma and left the place without to return.
Atmadeva being very happy took the fruit and ran to his house. He narrated his encounter with Sanyasi
and gave the fruit to his wife to eat. However, his wife Dunduli who was crooked took the fruit to her
neighbor and started talking ill. She started worrying about the effects of pregnancy. While the virtuous
women, do this as Tapas or austerity. With their attribute of affection, they feed the baby by generating
milk. She was not prepared to let her womb grow nor face morning sickness nor nausea nor the pain
to carry and deliver. Also, she was not prepared to follow the dharma of Satya or speak truth nor Saucha
of maintaining cleanliness of body & mind nor Daya of being kind & affectionate nor Dana of donating
to pious & needy nor eat food only once a day. This was suggested by the Saint who had promised
birth of a good son.
Having perverted thoughts, she did not have the fruit and kept it aside. However, she confirmed
Atmadeva that she had the fruit. Having told lies, Dunduli started hatching a plan to make up for the lie
she had told her husband, Atmadeva. Incidentally, at the same time, her sister happens to visit her.
Dunduli, confesses the happenings and expresses her concern for having conspired against her
husband. And also she expresses her worry that her conspiracy getting exposed. She asks her sister if
she could suggest the way forward.
Dunduli’s sister turns worse than her. While Dunduli hesitated to give birth to a child, her sister was
prepared to do a business of selling a child. She says, please don’t worry. I am pregnant. After having
delivered, I will pass on my baby to you. Till such time you act as if you are pregnant. You may worry
that how I could convenience my husband. But don’t worry, arrange some money and I shall
convenience my husband also. For those people who have seen me carrying, I would tell them that
there was unfortunate abortion. The baby died. The fruit that you have hidden from your husband, feed
it to the Cow. Let us check if the Cow is going to conceive.
The plan of Dunduli and her sister started unfolding with time. They were successful in executing the
plan. Dunduli’s sister delivered a baby boy. Her husband brought the baby secretly and gave it to
Dunduli. Dunduli communicated to Atmadeva that she delivered a baby boy.
Being very happy, Atmadeva donated wealth to Brahmin and got the baby’s horoscope done. Also, he
arranged Jatakarma including placing the baby in the cradle, offering to the Lord in a temple, Naming
the baby, piercing the ear for an earring and so on. As per the wish of his wife, he named the baby as
Dundukari. He celebrated all these auspicious activities full of pomp and festivity. Meantime, Dunduli
informed Atmadeva that she has not enough milk to feed the baby. She asked Atmadeva to invite her
sister to their house who had just delivered and lost the baby. So that her sister could also feed the
child. Atmadeva did so.
After about three months from the birth of Dundukari, the cow which was fed with the fruit received from
Sanyasi also delivered. To everyone’s surprise, the cow delivered a baby boy. The baby had a divine
face and ear that was like Cow. Atmadeva was very happy about it. He also arranged Jatakarma and
carried out all auspicious activities. He named the child as Gokarna which literally meant that one with
ears of Cow. All the people of the town visited him. They all congratulated Atmadeva and said that
though he did not have a child for a long time, now he is being blessed with two children. The Cow has
also delivered a human baby. However, no one understood the conspiracy of Dunduli and her sister.
Both the children grew up by time. They grew up in the same house and became youth. While Gokarana
at every stage, as he grew up, became Knowledgeable and Pundit.

However, Dundukari was stupid, unclean, never maintained personal hygiene, was short-tempered,
rowdy, indiscriminate, lit fire to others house, pushed small kids into well, troubled others, made fun of
handicaps and did such other cruel deeds. Always he was in the company of bad people. As he became
a youth, he fell into habits of gambling and womanising. That way he lost all the hereditary wealth of
the family. He would, beat-up his parents for more money.
Seeing all this, Atmadeva and Dunduli, the parents of Dundukari, lost their heart and started wailing in
front of their near and dear. They wondered how they could get rid of the issue and who would help
them. They also cursed their fate and started repenting for having a child. Meantime, their other son
Gokarna returned home after higher education and got to know on various development.
Consoling his parents and suggesting the path of Vairagya or impassion, Gokarna says, this samsara
involving a cycle of death and birth is constituted of very little happiness and fight to accomplish it. Rest
major part constitutes difficulty, sorrow, and unhappiness. Also, the little happiness what one sees in
life would only make a pathway for sorrow. However, we live with the illusion of being happy and as if
all is going well. There is no substance in life. We keep claiming about our children, wealth and so on.
However, the relation among all these is like the relation between the flame, oil, twig and the lamp. The
flame has a friendship with a twig as long as oil is there. So too, the closeness of friendship would be
the amount of sorrow one should burn. We forget about the Lord Paramatma who is always a
companion in life after life and all state of life. I should tell that even a King or a rich man in this samsara
has to face the same. Only the person who is happy in this world is a Vairagi or an Impassionate. Also,
this body will die, one or the other day.
Atmadeva, remembering the earlier advice of Sanyasi. Realising his mistakes, saw Gokarana as a well-
wisher. He enquired as to what to do after taking-up vanaprastha ashrama. Gokarna says one has to
leave attachments with the body and so too on ownership of children, relations, assets or wealth. One
should strengthen their resolve against materialistic pleasure which is short lived. Living on the
righteous path, one should do service of Saints, develop bhakti in the Lord and Jnana of him. Doing so,
one should curtail the desire for possession and enjoyment. Also, one should stop seeing materialistic
prosperity or defects in others. Serve Srimad Bhagavatam by hearing, reading or narrating. By doing
so enjoy the flavor of Srimad Bhagavatam and bring its dharma into practice.
Atmadeva had become old and over sixty years of age. He became impassionate and resolute to follow
the path shown by Gokarna. Srimad Bhagavatam and its dharma became very close to his heart. He
took refuge of Srimad Bhagavatam to overcome all impediments. The tenth Skanda became very dear
to him, more than his life. Lord Sri Krishna blesses him with Sayujya and Atmadeva joins the Lotus feet
of the Lord.

SBM 10 – Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha to Uplift of Dundukari
After Atmadeva had left his home to take up vanaprastha ashrama, Dundukari used to beat-up his
mother and took away all her wealth. Dunduli unable to manage her son jumped into a well and
committed suicide. Gokarna became more pious and was on a pilgrimage visiting Holy places. He
maintained a very low relation with the material world. Hence, in happiness or dejection, friends or
enemies, relatives did not bother him and remained at peace & tranquil.
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/

Dundukari continued with his bad habits and had illicit relations with five women. All of them started
staying in the house.
These women would always have demanded valuable things. To meet their demands, Dundukari,
would attack the travelers and rob them. By robbing profession, he had accumulated a lot of wealth.
Seeing this, his five women friends thought that Dundukari had a lot of wealth. They were worried that
if Dundukari gets caught, they may also have to face the law. Hence they planned to murder him and
take away the wealth.
Like every day, Dundukari returned home in the evening after having completed his day’s affairs. His
five women welcomed him, served him food and they slept for the day. In the midnight when Dundukari
was fast asleep, all the five women together tied-up his hands & legs. When Dudukari opened his mouth
to scream. They stuffed cloths into his mouth and wrapped his face. Also, they put a noose at his neck
and tightened it to choke him to death. However, Dundukari continued to breathe. Being desperate,
they covered his face with burning coal and killed him. After they killed him, they dug a pit in an unused
corner of the house and buried the body on the same night.
The death of Dundukari was not known to anyone in the village. On any acquaints enquiry of Dundukari,
the five would say that he had gone to a foreign land for earning money.
So, Sanatkumara says that one should not have an affair with women who are socially insensitive.
While they talk as if very loving & caring, but they will ultimately bid badly. And further continues to tell
the story.
Later, these five women distributed the stolen wealth of Dundukari among themselves. They abandoned
the house and disappeared. Meanwhile, Dundukari, for all the crime he had done, had to become a
ghost. He had to leave on this earth like wind and without a form or body. Without appearance, he had
to wander and face the heat of the Sun or the wetness of the Rain. He had to face extreme hunger and
thirst without being able to eat to fill his stomach nor drink water to quench his thirst. This way he was
struggling day and night. Having no one for help, he would scream to God for help.
Gokarna, who had been on pilgrimage returned home and heard the happenings with Dundukari from
neighbors. Being concerned for Dundukari and worried if he had to assume ghost, carried out Shraddha
or ceremony for peaceful passway of the dead. Also, he carried out Shraddha in Gaya and in all places
of pilgrimage he made. These way having done shraddha for dead and pilgrimage, Gokarna returned
to his place. As the sun had set, being dark, he went to the house where Dundukari would live and slept
that night outside the house. In the midnight, shocking horror awaited him. He could see a Ghost that
was taking different forms like that of Ram, Elephant, and Buffalo. Also, it appeared in the form of Indra
and Agni Gods. Sometimes in the form of Human.
Having seen the ghost, Gokarna without being scared wondered that someone has done a lot of sins
and suffering badly. He enquired the ghost, who was he? What is the reason that you had to have such
a violent form? Are you a Preatha, dead person or a Pishacha, Ghost or Brahma Rakshasa, Spirit of
dead Brahmin? Tell me the truth! However, having no voice, the ghost made some signs. Hence,
Gokarna took some water in the hand and after repetition of mantra seeking the Lord's help, threw it on
the Ghost. With the strength of the mantra, the Ghost was able to speak and narrated his story. The
Ghost says I was your older brother, Dundukari in my previous life. For all my sins, I don’t have a
Passway to other worlds. I cannot draw a conclusion that the sins I have done is within some limits. I

had become a danger to society. I am surviving on air. It was those women whom I trusted and believed
were the reason for my death. You have to help and free me from my present status for my prosperity.
Gokarna was surprised and told the Ghost that he has been doing Shraddha or ceremonies for peaceful
passway in various holy places including the holiest, Gaya with proper procedure. However, that had
not helped the diseased Dundukari. Hence, Gokarna asked the ghost to suggest the way forward. The
Ghost said to Gokarna that performing hundreds of Shardha would also not help as he was a big sinner.
The Ghost seeking help told Gokarna that he should find a different remedy. Gokarna not knowing the
way forward asked the Ghost to return to its place and assured it that he will try to find a way forward
from the more learned.
Gokarna spent the night thinking about how to help his deceased brother. After, dawn he got up. He
exchanged greetings with his neighbors and narrated the fate of Dundukari. He asked remedy from
learned, Yogis & Saints but in vain. They could not find any remedy written in any dharma shastra.
Hence, they suggested him to seek the help of Sun who is a witness for all happenings. Gokarna started
praying the Sun God. Without blinking his eyes, he meditated and made the Sun stop still. He prayed
for the blessing of Sun God and repeatedly asked the way for getting mukti to his past brother,
Dundukari. The Sun God pleased with Gokarna’s devotion suggested through a voice from the sky to
perform Bhagavata Sapthaha. All those present around him also heard the message and were pleased.
Gokarna with full of enthusiasm and devotion took-up the dhiksha or initiation for parayana or reading
of Srimad Bhagavatam. He followed all procedures including Brahmacharya or vow of chastity very
strictly. This news spread far and wide. People from towns, cities, and villages started flocking to
participate in Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha. People who were handicapped also reached there. All
congregated with a sense of purpose and feeling of remorse to get rid of their past sins. They were with
full of devotion and keen to move closer to the Lord. Gokarna with cleanliness sat on a dais and had a
Vishnu Bhakta sitting in front of him as a main Shrothru or audience.
As he started, the ghost of past Dundukari also arrived there. It was not visible to anyone. Without giving
any clue to anyone settled on to hollow bamboo. The hollow bamboo was appropriate and had seven
joints. It was placed on the corner of the dais. Gokarna, following all the procedures, started reciting
Srimad Bhagavatam. He narrated the philosophical investigation of stories in Srimad Bhagavatam for
day to day application.
As he completed the first day’s portion of Srimad Bhagavatam, a loud sound of rupture was heard from
the bamboo. All the people there were surprised. They saw that a bamboo lying in the direction of sound
had ruptured at a joint. However, no one could understand the correct reason for the rupture. Even on
the next day as Gokarna concluded the second day’s portion, similar incidence happened with the
second joint of bamboo getting ruptured with a loud sound. Similarly, each day the scenario repeated
with one joint rupturing as Gokarna concluded the day’s portion.
In seven days, Gokarna had completed all twelve Skanda or chapters of Srimad Bhagavatam. In these
seven days, Dundukari had left his Ghosthood and acquired a divine form. He was wearing a garland
of Tulsi or Basil leaves. Also, he was wearing yellow robes. He appeared in his dark skin like the color
of monsoon cloud. He wore a gold crown and fish-shaped earrings that was studded with jewels. As he
took this divine form, he thanked Gokarna for helping him to get rid of Ghosthood.
SBM 11 - Lord's Grace on Gokarna and completion of Sapthaha by Sanatkumara.
The divine form of erstwhile Dundukari sang the glory of Srimad Bhagavatamm. He told that Srimad
Bhagavatam would help one to get rid of all types of Sins. Also, it is the only remedy to end the cruel
birth of Ghosthood. There is no dharma equivalent to Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha. This is the best
dharma that one has to follow for mukti or to break the cycle of death and birth. Hearing Srimad
Bhagavatam, the sins would shiver. Any sort of sins, whether extreme or small, done mentally or orally
or physically would burn like the wood put into the fire in a Fire ceremony. One should read or hear
Srimad Bhagavatam at least once in life.
The divine form asks, in the body which is temporary, if one does not hear the Suka Shastra of Srimad
Bhagavatam, what is the point carrying the body? The body is to carry the stinking feces and urine in a
frame of bones, tied up with nerves, stuffed with flesh and blood, and covered with skin is a small house.
It is a cause for diseases, pain, and suffering. Any amount of good one puts into the body it only converts
to bad and can fall anytime with death. The tattva jnanis or Philosophers call the body as worms, dirt,
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/
20
useless or other names. The rice or the other foodstuff cooked in the morning will start decaying by
evening. How long the body could live which is sustained by such food?
Oh! Revered, with Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha, one could see the Lord in his divine form. This is the
only medicine to get rid of Sins. Like the bubble in the water or the worms in the dirt, human beings too
take birth to die one day. Even though of this status if one doesn't hear Srimad Bhagavatam, what is
the use! During Bhagavata Sapthaha, we witnessed the rupture of seven joints of a non-living bamboo.
So, what is the difficulty for Sapthaha to unknot the invisible granthi or knots of Avarana or concealment
of Jivaatma or Soul including Jeevachadika, Paramachadika, Kama, Karma, lingadeha, Prakriti and
Bhagavat Icha. The Sapthaha removes ignorance and brings clarity of mind. Also, removes Sins,
actions of duty and accomplishes Mukti.
As the divine form of Dundukari spoke, an exclusive, bright flying plane arrived from the sky. In that
plane were the messengers of Lord Vishnu. The people assembled were wonderstruck. As they saw,
the messengers of Lord invited the divine form of Dundukari to take him to Vaikunta. Meantime,
Gokarna told the messengers that the others too were equal participants. Gokarna questioned the
reason for preferential treatment to Dundukari and difference in divine favor.
The messengers of Lord Vishnu says, Gokarna, What you say is right to the extent of listening to Srimad
Bhagavatam. However, the process or procedure followed is different. The Ghost of Dundukari not only
heard but also understood the philosophic basis behind the story of Srimad Bhagavatam. Also, with a
firm belief in Srimad Bhagavatam and by fasting the Ghost heard and understood the quintessence of
Srimad Bhagavatam. Without a firm Knowledge or understanding of Philosophy with due deliberation
nor doing mantra without belief nor doing Japa without a calm mind nor a country without devotees nor
Charity for unworthy nor a community without behavior is of use or yield good merit.
Further, the messengers say, for one to get full benefits from hearing Srimad Bhagavatam they should
have full faith in their Gurus, humility in oneself, control and have a firm mind. Based on one's
commitment and the procedure they follow, they would get the fruit. Hence they suggested the
assembled to repeat the Bhagavata Sapthaha following all procedures. For Gokarna, the messengers
said that Lord Govinda himself would take him to his abode. Saying this, the messengers of Lord Vishnu
boarded the divine plane along with Dundukari's divine form and left to Vaikunta doing Hari Keertana
or Singing the praises of the Lord.
Gokarna performed Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha in Sravana masa. This time himself and all the people
followed the procedure.
They were attentive, understood the philosophy and they were fasting. A more surprise awaited this
time. In fact, this time the Lord Vishnu himself came down with his attendants in his and stood in the
middle of the assembly. All the people attending Sapthaha seeing the Lord in his divine form stood up
and started singing his glory. His name of Jaya or Victory and Namaha or All about Lord was heard
from all directions. Seeing that the people were full of enthusiasm and devotion, The Lord blew his
conch and embraced Gokarna with all his four arms blessing him by treating as if his equal.
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/
21
For all those people who attended the Sapthaha, the Lord blessed them Saaroopya or the form of
himself. Along with all the animals of that place were accommodated in the plane and the Lord sent
them to amukta Vaikunta. This cannot be accomplished even by great Yogis who have successfully
accomplished Sevier austerity. The blessings that were bestowed by Lord Sri Rama earlier in Treta
Yuga, similar blessings were bestowed by Lord Sri Krishna in Dwapara Yuga which is even difficult for
Gods like Sun & Moon and great Yogis to receive. Also, the Lord took Gokarna in his own plane to
Goloka of Vaikunta.
This Glory of Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam has become an example and has been recorded by Lord
Veda Vyasa in Padma Purana. This story is very dear to Shandilya muni who lived in Chitrakoot. He
repeats the narration often and practices. If one listens at least once in their life, the story of Dundukarai
of how even a ghost got liberated by hearing Srimad Bhagavatam, he will get rid of his many sins. If
one hears this episode during a performance of Shraddha of their forefathers, their forefathers will be
satisfied. If one reads this episode daily, he can break the cycle of death & birth and accomplish
moksha.
Sanatkumara, after having narrated the story of Atmadeva, Dunduli, Dundukari, and Gokarna to Narada
Rishi, he started narrating the procedure to be carried out for Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha, the
substance required and Fasting requirement. For the purpose of Shanti or Peace after completing the
Sapthaha, Sanatkumara narrated the Dharma of serving food to Brahmins and others. After which,
Sanatkumara narrated the entire Srimad Bhagavatam in an elaborated and detailed way from beginning
to end.
In those seven days, all followed the necessary procedure and heard Srimad Bhagavatam from
Sanatkumara. In the end, everyone sang the Glory of the Lord with full of devotion. Jnana and Vairagya
had regained their youth. For having accomplished the objective, Narada Rishi was filled with Joy. He
was bursting with happiness.
Narada Rishi with full of benevolence and folded hand, eyes filled with tears of joy and chocking voice
thanking Sanatkumara said that with your kind blessings I have become fortunate. Lord Sriman
Narayana himself has come and occupied my heart. Leaving his abode Vaikunta, The Lord Mahavishnu
himself has appeared in the middle of the gathering at the end of Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha. Is there
any other dharma greater than this!
SBM 12 - The Power of Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha organised by Narada Rishi
As Narada Rishi thanked Sanatkumara for guiding and narrating Srimad Bhagavatam in Sapthaha, the
most knowledgeable and the son of Lord Veda Vyasa arrived at the gathering. He had the divine
charisma, appearing as Sixteen years old was as pleasant as full moon. Having accomplished all that
needs to be accomplished, was gentle and reciting the verses of Srimad Bhagavata out of devotion. Sri
Sukacharya being a Guru or the teacher of Srimad Bhagavatam for all those who had assembled, the
moment everyone saw him arriving the assembly, they got-up and offered him salutations with great
respect and devotion. Narada Rishi came to the fore, washed his feet with water and sprinkled that
water on all the assembled including himself with full of respect and devotion.
After having taken the seat, Sri Sukacharya addressing the gathering said this:
िनगमक तरोगिलतं फलं शुकमुखादमृत वसंयुतम् ।
िपबत भागवतं रसमालयं मु रहो रिसका भुिव भावुका ॥
Hey, Virtuous & Warm-hearted ones, Lord Vishnu's bhaktas, you are having a taste for spiritual
experience. In a tree called Vedas which is kalpavruksha or a wish-fulfilling, the tastiest fruit has been
borne. Like the tastiest fruit is bitten by Suka or Parrot and the saliva of parrot further increases the
taste. So too, Srimad Bhagavata narrated by me Suka is elaborated literature of Vedas is like the juice
of fruit from the tree of Vedas and easy to relish. All of you enjoy and relish the Juice as also being
done by the Virtuous of the higher world till they get moksha.
धमः ो तकै तवोऽ परमो िनम राणां सतां वे ं वा वम व ु िशवदं ताप यो ूलनम् ।

Srimad Bhagavata, contains the complete knowledge of Dharma which holds one from falling down,
purifies and puts on to the path leading to The Lord. This path seeks continued practice of honouring,
worshipping, admiring & praising The Lord without any jealousy or expectation nor being deceptive.
While being on the path, removes all sorts of difficulties, bestows prosperity, makes one sajjana or
virtuous and solidify bhakti or devotion. Hence, Srimad Bhagavata composed by The Lord Veda Vyasa

himself is great and guarantees to reveal The Lord who is always present in the heart of all the
individuals.
Srimad Bhagavata is like a tilaka or the mark on the forehead among all Puranas. Also, is like a treasure
for all those believers of Lord Vishnu and also to ones who have sacrificed everything and taken up
Sanyasi Ashram. Not only it imparts knowledge but is also like a handbook for Serious Practitioners
leading them to Mukti. One who hears or reads this Srimad Bhagavatam will get mukti. This elaborated
Srimad Bhagavatam was not composed in Satya Loka, Svarga Loka or Heaven, Kailasa, Vaikunta by
the Lord Veda Vyasa. This is exclusive for the people of Kali Yuga on this earth. Hence, one could
forego anything in his life but should try to practice Srimad Bhagavatam always.
As Sri Sukacharya was talking, Lord Sri Hari appeared in his majestic form. He had four shoulders
holding Chakra, Shankha, Gada and Padma, wearing Yellow robes, full of ornaments and smiling. He
was wearing the mark of Srivatsa in his chest wherein Goddess Lakshmi in her pleasant face was in
her deep meditation trying to observe the Lords attributes unfolding like trying to hold a wave of water
gushing down the mountains. He was towering in the middle of Prahalada, Bali, Uddhava, Arjuna and
his other dear devotees. Narada Rishi filled with devotion offered the Lord arghya and padya and made
him sit on the highest pedestal. As the Lord seated, all started doing nama sankeertana or singing the
praises of the Lord. To watch this God Brahma along with Goddess Saraswati and God Rudra along
with Goddess Parvati came from Satya Loka & Kailasa.
As Prahlada started with tala or clapping with hand and fingers with a rhythmic beat to set-off the
melodic raga, Uddhava started clapping with brass tala, Narada Rishi played Veena, Arjuna started
singing with raga of the music, Devendra was playing mrudangam. As Arjuna started singing, Sanakadi
munis were repeating Jai Jai phrases at appropriate points of song. Lord’s son Sri Sukacharya
orchestrated the music. As they got absorbed, they were perplexed to see several forms of Lord in
Shruti and in one form of Lord as their attention moved svara. Their admiration for the Glory of the Lord
was unimaginable to the people on earth. Among all of these Gods, Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya were
dancing to the music in ecstasy.
As the music ended, Narada Rishi submitted the sankeertana to Lord. The Lord for whom the devotees
are most dear said that I am pleased with your act of singing, so ask me any boon that you wish to
have. The best of Bhagavatas always involved with Lord without any expectations to themselves
requested the Lord only to make his presence along with them in a significant way in all those devotees
who conducts or participates in Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha. Lord blessing the same said so be it and
disappeared.
Starting with Sri Sukacharya, all prostrated to the place where Lord last stood or to the invisible footprint.
That included Sanatkumar, Narada Rishi and all other Rishi including Brighu Rishi. The Jnani, Bhakti
and Vairagya who had taken their physical form were found into Srimad Bhagavatam by Sri
Sukacharya. For any sort of poverty, sorrow, a physical disorder including fever, Illusion, ghosthood,
black magic including crossing over the sea of death and birth Srimad Bhagavatam would solve.
Hearing Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam from Sri Sutacharya, Saunaka Rishi asks when did Sri
Sukacahrya narrate to Parakshit Raja and when did Gokarna and SanatKumara narrate. Please clarify
Sri Sutacharya says, Thirty years after disappearance of Lord Krishna, on the 9th thiti in the bright
period of the month Bhadrapada, Sri Sukacharya started narration for seven days with Parakshit Raja
as main Shrothru or audiance. About Two hundred years thereafter Gokarna narrated Srimad
Bhagavata starting Ashad shuda navmai for seven days. We have also read that in the month of Sravan
of the same year, Gokarna repeated. Thirty years thereafter i.e. about 260 years after disappearance
of Lord Krishna, Narada Rishi organised Bhagavata Sapthaha in Ananda, Haridwar on the banks of
Ganga and Sanatkumara narrated Srimad Bhagavata.
Sri Sutacharya further says that the only medicine to cure psychological illness. It is very dear to the
Lord, the Lord resides in it, kalikalmasha or the filth created by pollution of Kali can be cleaned only by
Srimad Bhagavata. Gives bukti or all materialistic happiness and then mukti. Everyone should hear with
respect and devotion. Gives better results than going to pilgrimage said Sutacharya.
The assistants of Yama Raja, the God of death would always be on their toes looking out to take the
life of people who have expend their lifespan on earth. However, Yama Raja keeps instructing his
assistants saying, make no mistake of touching Lord Vishnu’s devotees or Vaishnava’s or those who
have desire to hear Lord’s Stories. They are not under my jurisdiction. They will be dealt with by the
messengers of Lord Vishnu.
In this materialistic world where there is little substance, don’t get consumed. Relish the flavor of the
Juice of Srimad Bhagavatam for at least half an hour a day. Parakshit raja who joined the Lord’s feet
Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/
23
by hearing Srimad Bhagavatam is the witness! Says Sri Sutacharya who was present and witnessed
Parakshit raja leaving his physical body to join Lord’s feet. Further, he says that those who are always
narrating the verses of Srimad Bhagavatam would become Kings in the Vaikunta.
This is the Philosophy of all Philosophies or quintessence of Philosophy. The best for purification of
mind for those desirous to accomplish success. There is nothing which is not in one’s reach if one hears
or reads or narrates Srimad Bhagavatam with attention towards procedure and devotion! Says Sri
Sutacharya. Hence, let’s pray to our Gurus and their indweller, Lord, that let us be blessed with the
service of Srimad Bhagavata at all times and particularly during the last moments of our Life. Let Srimad
Bhagavatam fill our heart.
Hari Om
This auspicious Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam has been recorded by Lord Veda Vyasa in Uttara
khanda of Pudma Purana.
In Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Sukacharya in the second skanda, 4th adhyaya, 17th verse says following
Bhagavata dharma:
तप नो दानपरा यश नो मन नो म िवदः सुम लाः ।
ेमं न िव िवना यदपणं त ै सुभ वसे नमो नमः ॥ १७॥
There is no assured happiness at all times, even if one does the best of Penance or the highest Charity
or is a famous Celebrity or is the brightest mind or knows the entire Vedas or is the most Prosperous
unless he offers his Penance, or Charity or Fame or Intelligence or Knowledge of Vedas to that Splined,
full of Auspicious and Renowned Lord. My Salutations to such Lord.
The whole of Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam, what has been read, heard, understood and written by
me in these twelve blogs is only of my limit. Also, this little has been possible only because of the
blessings of Guru Sri Raghavendra and all his philosophical associates including Sri Sukacharya.
Hence, I submit to them in who resides, Mukya Prana and in whom resides various forms of Lord
including Srinivasa, Lakshmi Narasimha and Veda Vyasa who are not different. Hari Om. Sri
Krishnarpanamastu.

  • 3. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 1 Hari Om My highest Salutations to Lord Narasimha, the destroyer of ignorance and in whose abode resides the Goddess of abundance. My repeated Salutations to him at whose service are Gods themselves at all time. Also, my scaled Salutations to all Gods that includes Hanuman, Sarasvati, Garuda, Sesha, Rudra, Narada, Dhruva, Prahalada who are always brimming with devotion and are never exhausted at the service of Lord. My utmost Salutations to Srimad Acharya and all the Gurus of the lineage through whom the nectar of Bhagavatam Shastra has been flowing. I seek the shelter of Guru Raghavendra at all times. SBM 01 - The arrival of Srimad Bhagavatam and its Greatness Bhagavatam is the king of all Puranas that removes ignorance, confers the pinnacle of knowledge & devotion in The Lord and also vairagya or dispassion in all worldly attractions & illusions that keep entangling with samsara the cycle of death & birth. It brings happiness. The amrutha or the nectar that was received after Kshirasamudra mathana or churning of Milky Way is not comparable to the greatness of Srimad Bhagavatha. Its greatness has been praised in almost all Puranas like Garuda, Brahma, Brahmanda, Markandaya, Vayu, Agni, Skanda, Padma. The Padma Purana describes the glory & greatness in a unique way. To start as in Padma Purana, Lord Veda Vyasa calls one to pray Sri Sukacharya: यं ज मनुपेतमपेतकृ ं ैपायनो िवरहकातर आजुहाव पु ेित त यतया तरवोऽिभनेदु ं सवभूत दयं मुिनमानतोऽ । यः ानुभावम खल ुितसारमेकम ा दीपमितिततीषतां तमोऽ म् संसा रणां क णयाह पुराणगु ं तं ाससूनुमुपयािम गु ं मुनीनाम्॥ As if feeling loss and loneliness, Lord Veda Vyasa calls Suka, “My Son”. But Sri Sukacharya who has the attribute of Vairagya or dispassion, even to his body, walked ahead to become Sanyasi without any reply. Being no different from God Rudra who is obliged to The Lord for being responsible to influence the minds in all living being, answered filled with bhakti or devotion to The Lord by swaying of trees. Salutations to Vairagya Shiromani, Sri Sukacharya. Once upon a time, Sri Sutacharya visited the sacred place of Naimisaranya were extremely wise sages were living.
  • 4. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 2 They arranged a gathering to welcome Sri Sutacharya. Under the leadership of Sri Saunaka Rishi, who on behalf of all rishis offered him respects, honor & gratitude, praised him for having arrived as bright Sun, and requested him to narrate the stories of the Lord: - That would remove ignorance or darkness; - The cream of these stories that are divine nectar and gives the experience of its flavor; - That brings happiness; - Through which one gets Viveka or ability to distinguish those that confine one to the worldly attractions and brings illusions and those that liberates one by bestowing Knowledge of & devotion in Lord with vairagya or dispassion to all the worldly attractions. Further, Sri Saunaka Rishi expressed deep concern and informed that the deadly Kali, The Lord of Evil along with his followers had fully established on the earth. The ordinary human beings under his influence had lost the track of Vaishnava dharma & sadhana or means to accomplish liberation. They were busy, with day to day activities and earning money to feed their stomach by hook or crook which made them evil and further entangling to the cycle of Death & Birth. As Sri Saunaka Rishi saw a lot of difficulties in an individual’s life, filled with compassion, sought remedies that would bring benefit and please The Lord. He told, Guru Sutacharya, the gem called Chinatamani could give all worldly happiness and heaven too. However, if Guru is pleased, he could bestow Vaikunta, the abode of The Lord which cannot be accomplished even by great Yogis. Sri Sutacharya replies: I am feeling pleased with your stainless attitude and would tell you what I have learned from my Guru Veda Vyasa. After having evaluated the essence of all philosophies, I will tell the substance that would destroy the fear of death & birth. The one which blossoms the bhakti or devotion in the individual and pleases the lord. Hence, hear me very carefully, the only way to cut the head of the snake called time which is continuously eating every individual and entangling to rebirth is the study and practice Srimad Bhagavatha Dharma. This is only possible for those who have been purifying, become virtuous and doing good deeds over several births. Long-time back, Parikshit Raja became King of Hastinapur by succeeding his Grandfather Yudhishthira. Due to the wrath of the curse of a Brahmin boy, he had to die within seven days. Filled with remorse, he arranged a gathering on the bank of holy river Ganges at Hardwar. Sri Sukacharya arrived at this gathering, on Parikshit Rajas' request, suggested a discourse on Srimad Bhagavatam to Parikshit Raja as a remedy. This happened after fifty years from the disappearance of Lord Krishna and start of Kali Yuga. When he was about to start narration, all the Gods from Heaven under the kingship of Indra came with the pot of Holy Nectar or amrutha. Having bowed to Sri Sukacharya, suggested him that Parikshit Raja could have the Holy Nectar that would give immortality and requested him to give them Bhagavatha. For which, Sri Sukacharya laughed away. He told them that the Holy Nectar and Srimad Bhagavatha are not comparable. Srimad Bhagavatha is like trading off a Diamond Gem with a piece of Glass and rejected the offer. Srimad Bhagavatha is exceptional and very rare to get. Parikshit Raja, after having heard for seven days went to Vaikunta which surprised everyone including Deva Guru Brihaspati. Though, Thkshaka, in the form of fly bit Parakshit raja as per the curse of Brahamin boy, he was not afraid nor did he die due to its bite. The king left the body through yoga, reached Vaikunta and to the feet of the Lord getting liberated from the cycle of death & birth. This even surprised God Brahma. This happened in the lunar

Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 3 month of Bhadrapada and hence even to date, mumukshus or one who seek moksha, arrange the discourse of Bhagavatam for seven days and is popularly called as Sapthaha or prostopadi Sapthaha. Once God Brahma weighed all the Puranas by placing Bhagavatha on one side and rest on the other side and found that Bhagavatha was equal to all other Puranas. The only ones which he found heavier than Bhagavatha are Vedas, Mahabharata, Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama, Brahma sutras. It is believed that the Sapthaha procedure was laid out by God Brahma, established by Sri Sukhacharya and popularised by Narada Rishi. In fact, Narada Rishi got the advice of summarised Bhagavatha in four verses from God Brahma himself. He submitted it to Lord Veda Vyasa by reciting to him and requests for a detailed elaboration for comprehension of ordinary. In one of his form, God Rudra took birth as the son of Lord Veda Vyas and received name as Sukha. Sri Sukhacharya received advice from Lord Veda Vyasa in elaborated and current form. Sri Sukhacharya subsequently advises Parikshit Raja during which Sri Sutacharya was also present. Later, Sri Sutacharya narrates to Saunakadi rishis in Naimishayaranya. From Saunakadi rishis, it is being passed from generations till date. This is how Srimad Bhagavatha has arrived from the upper world. The other way through which Srimad Bhagavatha arrived is from Lower World. God Sesha receives advice from God Brahma, who subsequently advise Sanatkumara, who in turn advice Sankyayana and Sankyayana advice Parashara. Parashara later advice Maytreya and Maytreya to Vidura. SBM 02 - The Story of Jnana, Bhakti, Vairagya and the influence of Kali Long-time back, Narada Rishi happened to visit various holy places like Pushkar, Prayag, Kashi, Godavari, Harikshetra, Kurukshetra, Sriranga, Sethubandhana. But nowhere, he could get happiness as Kali had invaded all the holy places by then. This was sometime after two sixty years from the time of disappearance of Lord Krishna from the earth. Kali is a friend of adharma or the ones who don’t follow Dharma. Together, they had attacked even Vaishnava residing in holy places and who was supposed to be virtuous. No one was engaging themselves in penance nor in truthfulness, kindness, charity, compassion. All were engaged in filling their stomach, yapping, talking against the truth and giving wrong witnesses. Also, all were lazy, dull, had lost clarity and had become unlucky faced with obstruction. They made groups, gang-up to support themselves even if there is falsehood and had become deceptive & Intrigue. The ascetic or monks who should live in solitary were marrying & staying with wives or having illicit relationships with women. The young women were heading families and insisting their own way without considering the opinion of the elders in the family. Fancy and show-off were becoming kings and younger are leading older. Women were being sold and husband and wife were fighting always. There were people attacking & breaking the idols of God, destroying temples and monastery. They were also settling in holy places.
  • 6. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 4 There were no Yogis, Siddha who had achieved spiritual advancement, ones with an exhaustive knowledge of spiritualism nor Brahmins well versed with Vedic ritual. Kali was engulfing like a fire in the forest, burning all auspicious into ash. Food and Vedas were being traded. So also, the women were selling their beauty. In fact, Kali danced away to glory. Having seen all this, Narada Rishi arrived in Brindavana on the Shore of Yamuna River and more surprise awaited him. A young lady was nursing two old men. She was depressed, the old men were unconscious and were breathing very low. The young lady was nursing these old men, crying and looking in all direction for help. There were about a hundred women who were fanning this young lady and old men. Narada Rishi was surprised and went there if they needed help. Having seen Narada Rishi, the young lady seeking help, said - Hello, well-conducted one, the compassionate, please wait for a second, I am in crisis and please help me. The auspicious one, seeing you, all the sin will disappear and only fortunate will have your view. Talking to you all my difficulties will disappear. Having heard, Narada Rishi asked, who are you? Who are these old men? Who are the women around you? What is the reason for sorrow? Please tell me elaborately for which the young lady said thus: My name is Bhakti and these two are my children named Jnana or Knowledge and Vairagya or the dispassionate. We have been tattered by time. See, I am still looking young and my children have turned old. The Goddess of all rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Sarasvati, Narmada, Sindhu, Kaveri, Krishna, Pushkarni, Tungabhadra, Sarayu, Kalindi are around me trying to nurse me in vain. I took birth in Dravida Desha, grew in Karnataka, stayed some time in Maharashtra and became old in Gujjara Desha. While, I had to be young and full of vigour, after the attack of Kali, I have become old. So also my children. When I came to Brindavana along with my children, I became young but not my children. Have you ever seen where the mother is young and the children are old! That’s the reason I am sorrow. You appear as Jnani or knowledgeable, please let me know the reason. Narada Rishi, having already visited and assessed the happenings on the earth assured the young lady, Bhakti that the situation would better. He told one should gather all the courage, face the Kali & his family and win over him like a brave soldier fighting in battle surrounded by enemy soldier. As people with affection have been occupied with themselves and their near & dear. They have no time for Bhakti or Devotion and hence you all have become very old. However, it is the greatness of Brindavana, as you stepped, Bhakti sprouted in the people that in turn made you young again. As people here are now singing the glory or the name of Lord Krishna, your children are faintly breathing. Narada Rishi also told Bhakti that Kali and his friends would triumph and benefit in their Yuga. Sajjanas or Virtuous who are at the brink of sadhana or means to accomplish liberation should comprehend all happenings in Kali Yuga and practise only the good. Also, what they could not accomplish in earlier Yugas that involved rigours austerity, meditation, yoga could accomplish by sankeerthana or merely singing the glory of The Lord or repetition of his names. As Kali is ruling this Yuga, even the weak or fragile ones with little service would please The Lord. The Young Lady, Bhakti offered prayers to Narada Rishi: जयित जगित मायां य कायाधव े वचनरचनमेकं के वलं चाकल । ुवपदमिप यातो य ु पातो ुवोऽयं सकलकु शलपा ं पु ं नता ॥ Prahalada, son of Kayadhu, had full faith in your teaching that The Lord is present everywhere and would never let his devotee down. He held this even during his most adverse situation and won the blessings of Lord Sri Narasimha. So too, did Prince Dhruva had your advice & blessings and became immovable Star or Polar Star. You are generous and object of all auspicious. Your blessings will yield the siddhi of smarane or remembrance and awareness of The Lord at all times. My Salutations to the Son of God Brahma. SBM 03 - The Pain of Bhakti and the Vow of Narada Rishi The young lady, Bhakti and her two old children Jnana & Vairagya tattered with times of Kali, the Lord of Evil, in Brindavana, asked Narada Rishi that why didn’t Parakshit raja order death of Kali and allowed him a place on this earth? How could Lord see the difficulties of Virtuous? Though Kali Yuga started on the day Duryodhana died, he could not influence till Lord Krishna was appearing on earth. In fact, he had to face the law when he tried to influence adharam. He was pardoned
  • 7. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 5 without a death sentence by Lord Krishna. Subsequently, Yudhishthira none other than God of Dharma & Bheemasena an avatar or incarnation of Mukhya Prana pardoned Kali without death. While he took his first step when Lord Krishna disappeared from earth and the second step when Pandavas did swargarohan or left to Heaven. Hence Kali Yuga started from the day Lord Krishna disappeared from the earth. Again, during the rule of Parakshit raja, he was caught for his misdeeds. When Parakshit raja pulled his sword out to kill, Kali fell at his feet seeking shelter and survived. Also, the Virtuous who could not do rigorous austerity, meditation, Yoga, in earlier Yuga of Dwapara had to get a chance to reach the feet of The Lord. Hence, the weak or fragile ones could also accomplish pleasing The Lord by singing his glory and repeating his names very easily. Being kind & generous to the Virtuous, the Vaishnava, Yudhishthira, Bheemasena and Parakshit raja left Kali to live and conduct his Yuga. Narada Rishi having clarified the above, he further explained that during the Kali Yuga all living & non- living will lose its characteristics and strength by becoming polluted. This includes The Soil, Water, Fire, Air, Food, Plants, Trees, animals, and human. The spiritual activities by priests have also been losing the strength as they too have been engaging in trade for food. Also, the spiritual activities that could yield moksha & liberate from the cycle of death & birth, are also losing its strength as the persons doing this have no control over their senses or indria and have become greedy, miser, angry, etc. The Holy Rivers and Holy places are losing its strength as bad people doing heinous crimes, non-believer and atheist are settling there. Also, these places are fretted with disputes and controversy. Narada Rishi sings the Glory of Bhakti: Young Lady, why are you so worried! By recollecting and seeing the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna in one’s mind all sorrow will disappear. Lord Krishna protected Draupadi in the middle of the assembly. So too, he protected the Gopikas of Brindavana. You are the most affectionate, to Lord Krishna and he attends you from wherever and however inferior or mean a place that you may be. That means, even if one is not having any authority or he is poor or may not look good or have diseases or an outcast or may be abandoned by society, but if he prays to the Lord with devotion or bhakti, The Lord will immediately respond. In Satya, Treta, Dvapara Yugas, one had to work very hard to earn Jnana & Vairagya. However, in Kali Yuga, one can earn only through Bhakti. Narada Rishi recollects and says Young Lady, Bhakti that when The Lord created you, with folded hands filled with Bhakti, you asked him, how you could serve? Lord replied that you should take care of his devotees. You have accepted the instructions of Lord. With whomever you are there, he will get Jnana, Vairagya for liberation. The people of Brindavana have desired you and hence Jnana & Vairagya are still alive. So don’t be worried, we will find a way out. Narada Rishi takes the vow, I will ensure that in each individual who takes birth in this dark Kali Yuga with Virtue, you will be founded in them, else let me not be known as Hari dasa or attendant of Lord. Even in the highest sinner, if Bhakti sprouts, he will surely get liberated from this cycle of death and birth. Neither ghost nor the spirit of dead nor evil being nor one supported by evil spirit can touch a Vishnu Bhakta or one who has devotion in the Lord. Neither an ascetic, nor the one who has studied Vedas, nor the one who has done good deeds can please the Lord without Bhakti. However, asceticism with bhakti, Studying Vedas with Bhakti, doing good deeds with Bhakti would please The Lord. The Gopikas of Brindavana is a good example where they were able to please Lord Krishna with Bhakti. Only after thousands of birth does bhakti start budding and one would start confessing he should work on Bhakti. If one deceives Bhakti or a Bhakta or devotee, it would not do well for them. Though, Dhurvasa none other than Lord Rudra had a difficult time after blaming King Ambrisha, a dear Bhakta of Lord. It is worthless to do vratas or ceremony with a vow, or go on pilgrimages, or Yoga, or homa, the Fire ceremony or rigorous reading of scripture. However, doing the same vrata, or pilgrimage or Yoga, or homa or reading scripture with Bhakti will liberate from the cycle of death & birth, Said Narada Rishi. The Young Lady, Bhakti, having heard Narada rishi’s praises became hale & hearty, oozing with full of strength & vigor. The Young Lady, Bhakti, said, Dear Narada, I am very pleased and thankful to you without a stain. You are great and I will be always present in your mind, thoughts, and consciousness. The kindest one, I request you to revive my sons Jnana & Vairagya. The most generous and kind-hearted Narada Rishi, touching Jnana & Vairagya started invoking those Gods responsible. He started uttering Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama in their ears and asking them to wake up. While Jnana & Vairagya got up but were tired. They could not open their eyes nor sit. They appeared very hungry and weak. Having heard Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama, they sat for a moment and again laid down unconscious.
  • 8. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 6 Hence, Narada Rishi became anxious, worried and helpless. Narada Rishi prays to Lord Govinda, Lord Bhargava and seeks his help. To everyone’s surprise, a voice without a body from the sky is heard. It says, don’t worry Narada Rishi, you will be able to revive Jnana & Bhakti. You need to perform a good deed and will be told to you by saints. Be assured that once this is done Bhakti, Jnana and Vairagya will recover to their glory. Narada Rishi having heard the voice from the sky was surprised and clueless on the deed or the saint to be approached. So too the Bhakti and all the Goddess of rivers. Leaving all behind in a safe place at Brindavana, Narada Rishi proceeds to find the saint. He starts going from one holy place to another and one hermitage to another talking to saints and virtuous, citing the situation of Jnana & Vairagya and seeking if they could help in any way. But in vain. However, he reached Badri and performed austerity or Tapa. SBM 04 - The flavor of Srimad Bhagavatam as described by The Emperor of Vedanta Once, the Sanakadi munis, i.e. Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana, and Sanatkumara, born out of the mind of God Brahma visited earth to Badri kshetra for satsanga or meet virtuous. Narada Rishi was also present in Badri and had just completed austerity or Tapa. Narada Rishi encountered Sanakadi munis, who appeared with the brightness of thousands of Sun. Narada Rishi says: I am very happy to see you all. Only very fortunate will have your company. You are a great yogi and with special knowledge. You have acquired knowledge with the blessings of God Brahma and Lord Veda Vyasa themselves. Always, you all appear in the form of five years old, though you are all older than those who are known to be elders. You leave in amukta Vaikunta, the abode of The Lord. You all are always occupied with Hari Keerthana or singing the glory of the Lord and pioneers to have set this philosophy in motion. Always, you all relish the flavor of the Lord's lelamrutha or sport. Narrating the Lord's story has been your goal of life. As those who are always occupied in Shastra adyayana or study of philosophy will not encounter aging and so are you all. With your glare and the expression of eyebrow, Jaya & Vijaya, dwarapalakas or the guards at the Lord's door at Vaikunta had to face the curse of being born on earth. Only fortunate will have your sight. You are full of generosity, kindness & compassion. Hence, you need to bless me, said Narada Rishi with full of humility to Sanathkuma, the highest among four of Sanaka, Sanatana & Sanandana. Having described his encounter with Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya, and his desire to establish them in people of all Varna including chandalas or outcast, Narada Rishi sought the help of Sanakadi rishis to let him know the good deed or sadhana to be done for the same.
  • 9. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 7 Sanatkumara says: Narada Rishi, don’t be worried. Gather happiness, you think that the work is, as if already accomplished. The deed for the remedy is very easy and is not as if something new has to be found out. Lord Veda Vyasa, himself has already made ready. Dear Narada Rishi, you are blessed. You are the Vairagya Shiromani or the jewel of dispassion. You are the leader among Sri Krishna Dasa or the servants of the Lord. To establish Jnana, Bhakti & Vairagya in Kali Yuga has become very dear to you and you have initiated the process. To accomplish prosperity or wealth or even Heaven, various methods have been established by rishis. However, the method to accomplish Vaikunta is very secret and only those who have been meritorious by doing deeds to accomplish this over thousands of births would get to know. Narada Rishi, I will tell you what the voice from the sky said and the good deed that you need to do. Hear me carefully. There are several types of yagna or sacrifices or offerings. The sacrifices or offerings done by substance or austerity or Yoga or reciting Vedas. However, the most excellent yagna and good deed are Jnana Yagna involving Srimad Bhagavatam. You organise a gathering for Bhagavatam sapthaha. Bhakti, Jnana & Vairajaya will become very strong. Bhakti will become very happy and live in all virtuous. Where the voice of Bhagavatam is heard, Kali & his friends will flee like the jackals in the forest when they hear the roar of a lion. So too, the boast, hypocrite, deceiver, lazy, one who shuns the scriptures, atheism, lacks the dedication to achieve moksha sadhana or liberation flee like jackals when they hear the Bhagavatam that is like a roar of the Lion. Hence, the recitation or study or hearing of Bhagavatam will make Jnana, Bhakti and Vairagya hale and healthy! Said Sanatkumara. To establish the principles of Philosophy on the earth, Lord Veda Vyasa assigned Sanakadi muni as the Emperor of Vedanta Samrajya or Empire Vedanta. Now, keeping Narada Rishi as the cause they were establishing tattva Jnana or axiom. The axiom that Srimad Bhagavatam dharma holds one falling down, purifies by absolving the sins committed over several births, removes impediments & difficulties, bestows prosperity, makes virtuous & leads to the Lotus feet of Lord with Moksha or liberation from the cycle of death and birth. Narada Rishi says to Kumaras- I recited Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama in the ears of Jnana & Vairagya, but they could not recover and sleep unconsciously. As every verse and every word of Srimad Bhagavatam is an elaboration of Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama. You are very dear and affectionate to your refugee, please clarify these doubts. Sanatkumara says- Like a seed of a mango tree which has all the characteristics to grow into trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and so too the flavor of all those fruits that it is going to bare after years. But one could not eat the seed and enjoy the taste of fruit that it is going to bare later. For that, one has to sow the seed, water it, the seed needs to sprout, becomes a plant with leaves, grows into a tree with a trunk, branches, leaves, flower, and so on. Also, only the fruit has the best flavor, though it gets its substance from the flower, leaves, branch, trunk, etc. So too, Vedas are like seed, Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama is like trunk, branch, leaves, flowers. Srimad Bhagavata is the fruit and tastes the best as compared to Brahma Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasaranama. Hence, having the fruit will strengthen and energise Bhakti, Jnana, and Vairagya. Sanatkumara gave another analogy – Though, ghee has been made from milk the flavor of both are different. When the milk is heated to separate cream. Then after fermentation of leftover milk becomes curd the Curd is blended to separate the butter. The Cream from the milk and the butter is heated and clarified to separate the substance Ghee. However, when this ghee is mixed with rice, it tastes very delicious. So too, the flavor of Sugar Cane and the Sugar. Similarly, there is an exclusive taste embedded in Srimad Bhagavatam and would strengthen and energise Bhakti, Jnana, and Vairagya. In fact, the objective of Srimad Bhagavatam is to install Bhakti, Jnana, and Vairagya on the pedestal of mind, thoughts, and consciousness. Sanatkumara reminding Narada Rishi, his conversation with Lord Veda Vyasa, says- Though, of immeasurable Knowledge & Happiness, Lord Veda Vyasa, having recuperated Vedas, compiled them into four sections, narrated Brahma Sutra, Puranas and Mahabharata having Bhagavad Gita & Vishnu Sahasrnama pretended as if he missed something important and under an illusion. It was you, Narada Rishi, who met Lord Veda Vyasa and submitted the four verse or chatur sloki Bhagavatam
  • 10. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 8 that you had received from father God Brahma and requested him to elaborate. To credit you with the cause for the arrival of Srimad Bhagavatam, The Lord, who likes his devotees beyond measure or Bhaktavatsala, enacted to say that his worry is gone and he will compose Srimad Bhagavatam as if being fully satisfied with your suggestion. Also, through this, the Lord has communicated that all the worries shall disappear and be satisfied if one takes refuge of Srimad Bhagavatam. So it is surprising Narada Rishi that you are questioning! Anyone who hears Srimad Bhagavatam for seven days, all difficulties and sorrow will disappear. SBM 05 - The Buzz of Srimad Bhagavatam at Ananda, Haridwar During the conversation between Sanakadi munis and Narada Rishi in Badri Ksetra on the revival of Jnana, Bhakti & Vairagya, Sanathkumara suggested Narada Rishi conduct Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha. Narada Rishi fully committed for reviving and establishing Jnana, Bhakti and Vairagya filled with gratitude said, Sanatkumaras! On your Darshana or sight, Moha or infatuation, mada or intoxication, andakara or darkness caused by ignorance will be destroyed and one would be blessed with Viveka or ability to distinguish. Also, the sins committed & difficulties thereof will disappear, there will be solace and prosperity. You are always enjoying the flavor of the nectar in Lord’s stories of Bhagavatha that you have received from your guru, God Sesha. Your sight is very rare and Satsang or meeting virtuous like you will happen only on the accumulation of Punya or good deeds over several births including service to jnani or the learned. I seek refuge in you to help me establish the light of Love in God or Bhakti Narada Rishi further declared that he would organise the Jnana Yagna, a recital of Srimad Bhagavatha that was narrated by Sri Shukacharya to Parakshit raja during his last seven days of life filled with remorse. Namrada Rishi praising Sanatkumara said, you have reached the further end of Vedas and knows the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam. Humbly requesting for the guidance and narration of Srimad Bhagavatha, Narada Rishi said, please tell me, where I should organise this Yagna? Which place is auspicious? How long the yagna should be carried out? What are the procedures I need to follow? Narada Rishi, we feel very happy seeing your humility and Viveka. At Gangadwara, presently called Haridwar, on the shore of Ganges, there is a place called Ananda. There resides several Rishis, Saints, Virtuous people, Gods, and Siddhas or who have achieved spiritual advancement. The place is surrounded by trees, plants, and creepers filled with the fragrance of flowers. The place is very pleasant and so are the people there. There is no jealousy, nor anger nor enmity among the people there and generally, have no differences. You need to organise Jnana yagna at Ananada for seven days. Just with the thought of decision or Sankalpa, things will start happening without any obstructions. If you organise there, novel thoughts of tattva or axiom will form in the minds of person narrating and people hearing. Such is the holiness of the place. Also, don’t be worried that how would the young lady, Bhakti come with her very old and unconscious sons, Jnana and Vairagya from the shore of Yamuna to the shore of Ganga. Just tell them that Jnana Yagna of narrating Srimad Bhagavatha is being conducted and let there be no doubt in you about their attendance. We will narrate Srimad Bhagavatam as per procedure and let us all go to Haridwar. Having agreed to Narada Rishis request, Sanakadi munis along with Narada Rishi left Badriksetra and proceeded towards Haridwara, a holy place where the Ganges touch the planes. Meanwhile, the news spread and becomes most talked about in all lokas including on earth, also in Deva Loka or Heaven and Brahma Loka. All got to know that Srimad Bhagavatam is being organised by Narada Rishi and narrated by Sanakadi munis at Ananada. Hearing this, all Vaishnava, extremely desirous to enjoy the flavor of nectar, Srimad Bhagavatam, started rushing towards Haridwar. Also, sages like Bhrugu Rishi, Vasishtha, Chyavana, Gautama, Medhatithi, Devala, Devarata,

The Gods responsible to influence Shastras or indoctrination of Hindu beliefs, theerthas or holy places reached Ananda. They included ones responsible for each Vedas, Brahma Sutra, Mantras, Tantra, each of seventeen Puranas, each of six Shastras. They came in their original physical forms as they are in their respective lokas. The Gods responsible to influence rivers including for Ganga, Yamuna, Sarasvati, Godavari, Narmada, Sindhu, Kaveri, Krishna, Tungabhadra, Sarayu, Kalindi, Kshipra and also Pushkarni came. Also, the Gods responsible for holy places including Pushkar, Prayag, Kashi, Brindavana, Harikshetra, Kurukshetra, Gaya Tirupati, Sriranga, Sethubandhan came. So too the Gods responsible to influence directions, Dandaka & other forests, mountains came. They all came in their physical forms. All celestial beings including Devatas, Gandharvas, danavas came. Narada Rishi received each one with affection. As he offered the seat, everyone paid respectful salutations to Sanatkumaras before taking their seat. Brahmachari or one who observes chastity and Sanyasi or Saints with impassion or Vairagya bhava, Vaishnava sat in the front side and to the foremost sat Narada Rishi as Shrothru or audience. On one side sat rishis, on another all Gods & celestial beings. The Gods responsible to influence words like Jaya or triumph, Namaha or Salutations, Shankar or conch also came in their physical forms. Also, the women & their children, people of all varna sat in the earmarked locations. Gods were pleased to see all sitting down pretty keen and with full of excitement to hear Srimad Bhagavatam. They showered flowers of Heaven filled with fragrance & rich color which they brought in their flying planes. The fragrance, grandeur, and excitement filled the atmosphere. SBM 06 - The Glory of Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha The Sanatkumara, the Emperor of Vedanta Samrajya along with Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanandana sat on the dais, after everyone settling down, offered prayers as per satsampradaya or sacred customary procedure to remove any obstruction and to accomplish the desired results. Sanatkumara started with the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam or Mahatmyam, the sacred procedure laid out by Lord Veda Vyasa himself. Sanatkumara says - Hearing from Holy Srimad Bhagavatha one will get Liberation from the cycle of death & birth. I will narrate the glory of the doctrine of Sri Sukacharya called Srimad Bhagavatha. Hearing the glory or Mahatmyam is very important for developing the keenness and required enthusiasm. Also, the Lord who is in every individual blesses proximity. One has to daily hear or read from the Holy Srimad Bhagavatam which has 18000 Verses, in each verse, there are 32 Akshara or alphabet, are divided into 12 skandhas or chapters and was told to Parakshit raja by Sri Sukacharya. One will face difficulty in life, only till such time, he has not heard Bhagavatam. Once, one starts hearing Srimad Bhagavatam, the difficulties will start disappearing, strength to face the samsara or life will start increasing. Also, one will be able to get over Kama or lust, krodha or anger, lobha or greed, moha or attachment, mada or pride and matsarya or jealousy and become more balanced soul. The study of Puranas, Shruthi like Brahma Mimamsa, other shastras or philosophy would not yield proper perspective without the study of Srimad Bhagavatam. The only study of Srimad Bhagavatam makes complete and helps to have a proper perspective. It is only Srimad Bhagavatam that gives mukti. The house where Bhagavatam is narrated daily becomes theerta kshatra or a Holy place and people living there will absolve all their sin. Also, the merit of doing a thousand ashwamedha yagna and hundred vajpayi yagna is not equivalent to one-sixteenth of merit of penning Srimad Bhagavatam. The
  • 12. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 10 sins could reside in a person, only till such time a person has not understood Srimad Bhagavatam correctly. Neither Ganga, nor Gaya, nor Kashi, nor Pushkara, nor Prayaga will give merits as much as hearing Srimad Bhagavatam. Even, just reading half or one-fourth of a verse from Srimad Bhagavatam will yield great progress towards moksha. In Vedas, Gayathri mantra, Purusha sukta, Bhagavata, Twelve syllabus mantra; Prayaga, the twelve named Suns, Kala or Time, Samvatsara or full Year, Brahmana or Brahmin, Agnihotra or one who does fire ceremony, Kamadhenu or Surabhi is wish-fulfilling cow of Heaven, the tithis of Dwadashi, Ekadashi & Dashami or twelfth, eleventh and tenth lunar day from new moon or full moon, Tulasi or Holy Basil, Vasanta rutu or Season of Spring, resides Purshottama or Supreme Lord. The Lord resides in these in a remarkable way, worthy of worship. However, the Lord is omnipresent at all times. One who practices Bhagavatam Shastra and communicate to others, the sin accrued over one crore births will be absolved. Let there be no doubt on this, says Sanatkumara. One who reads half or even one fourth a verse daily from Srimad Bhagavatam will accrue punya or merit equal to the merit of offering Rajasuya or Ashvamedha. Recitation of Srimad Bhagavatam daily is equivalent to thinking of the Lord’s attributes or Serving Goddess Tulasi or Basil Plant by offering salutations & watering her or Serving the Cow by offering Salutations and feeding Grass & Water. By reading Srimad Bhagavatam daily, one will be blessed to hear Srimad Bhagavata during the last days & hours of life as like Parikshit raja that would lead to Vaikunta and the Lotus feet of Lord Govinda. If one donates a book of Srimad Bhagavatam that would be helpful for one to recite or read or study or teach and also if one could donate Srimad Bhagavatam in a gold case, he would get Sayujyam or communion or closely united with Lord Krishna permanently. One who blames or puts down or disrespects Srimad Bhagavatam, he is equivalent to an outcast. If one who has not heard Srimad Bhagavatam during his present life, he is only a pain to his mother for his birth and is an utter waste. Though he seems living, he is like a dead body. He is a sinner. For those who have not heard Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam, Gods, in the assembly would talk about them, blame them, look down and tell that he is only a dead weight to the earth said Sanatkumara. However, as we are reading this, we need not be worried. The Lord has been kind to us, he is a Sea of Compassion and loves us as his devotees. We are fortunate, for a minuscule deed in our earlier births, the Lord has blessed with the Prasada or a great gift of reading these words of Srimad Bhagavatam. Sanatkumara continues to sing the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam and says, it is not available to one and all nor is it another run of the mill stuff. But available only to those who have done Sadana or worked over it for over one crore births. Hence, one should hear or read as soon as it is available with all commitment and efforts. There is no limited time and one should hear or read every day. This is what all knowledgeable or Jnanis agree. Due to the influence of Kali in this Dark Age, it is difficult to practice Srimad Bhagavatam daily. Hence, the Sapthaha or limited seven days with Diksha or initiation under spiritual guide is suggested. Also, one has to follow all procedures including Brahmacharya or vow of chastity. The merit of hearing Srimad Bhagavatam in the lunar month of Magha is achieved by conducting Sapthaha. The merits of doing Tapa or austerity, Yoga, Samadhi is achieved by Sapthaha effortlessly. There is no yagna or sacrifice, Vrata or Ceremony with Vow or Tapa or austerity, Pilgrimage, Yoga, Dhyana or meditation that is equivalent to Sapthaha. As the glory of Sapthaha was being narrated by Sanatkumara, Something very surprising happened. The Young Lady Bhakti came along with her two sons, Jnana & Vairagya to the assembly. Jnana & Vairagya had regained youth, they were singing the names of Natha or the Lord continuously as “Shree Krishna, Govinda, Hare, Murare” and were dancing in ecstasy as they entered the assembly of all Gods, Rishis & all Vaishnava. As everyone was surprised and thinking who they are? Sanatkumara told them that as we have prepared to start Srimad Bhagavatam by recollecting its glory, Jnana, Bhakti, and Vairagya have appeared here. Only on completion of narrating Glory or Mahatmyam of Bhagavata Sapthaha, Bhakti’s children became youth and have traveled all the way from Brundavana.
  • 13. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 11 SBM 07 – Lord Sri Krishna’s Presence on Earth in this Kali Yuga The rishis, munis & the virtuous who had gathered to hear Srimad Bhagavatam, seeing the miracle of how Jnana & Vairagya had regained their youth, were surprised with the greatness of Srimad Bhagavatam and wondering how it had gained so much of glory, what is the reason? Sanakadi munis says: During the end of Dwapara Yuga, Lord Krishna having completed his objective of reducing the weight of adharma on mother earth by killing evils had decided to go back to his abode, Vaikunta. Knowing this, Uddhava met Lord Krishna at Prabhasa or present-day Somanath Patan and said thus: Oh! Lord, you came to reduce the weight on mother earth and help Pandava’s. Now, something is bothering me! I am worried! Please help me and bless me with clarity. Now that, Kali Yuga has already started. After you arranged to kill Duryodhana, Lord of Evil has again started his influence on earth. Also, this is his yuga, Kali would rule now. Even the virtuous will come under his influence. Again the weight of adharma on earth will increase. To whom should mother earth take refuge? The kind-hearted, Bhakta vatsala, devotees are dear to you. How could we live without you? The philosophy of nirguna & nirakara i.e. Lord is without attributes & he is formless will start prevailing. This will lead the virtuous to Hell. Please Think! How is it possible for people to live without you? Uddhava pleaded the Lord to stay back on earth on all our behalf. Lord blessing abaya or safety to Uddhava and told him that he will be available on earth in one of his forms and be present in Srimad Bhagavatam. He has told that he will not go away completely and whoever does service to Srimad Bhagavatam and take refuge, he will protect them. Hence, Srimad Bhagavata is an idol of Lord. Everyone should have Srimad Bhagavatam. Lord is present in the form of words constituting speech. Each word is a part of the Lord. Service of Srimad Bhagavatam by hearing, Studying, Seeing, removes one's sins. The jnana yagna or sacrifice by conducting Bhagavata Sapthaha is a Kali-yuga dharma for virtuous. In fact, it removes Sorrow, Poverty and blesses prosperity by absolving sins. For winning over of Kama or lust, Krodha or anger, the best sadhana or process to achieve perfection and ultimately win over deva Maya or confinement to death and birth is doing Srimad Bhagavatam sapthaha. The young lady, Bhakti said to Sanatkumara, With your Sankalpa Shakti or the energy generated for having decided to narrate Srimad Bhagavatam, I became very strong, my sons could get rid of old age and have become youth. Please give me a place to stay. Sanatkumara says – Young Lady, you are the one who gives love towards Lord. You are bhava roga hantri or destroyer of emotional or physiological disease. All Vaishnavas who are here and who would come in future, you should reside in them, in their consciousness. In whichever Vaishnava you reside, you would be comfortable there. Kali will not dare to even see you. Sanatkumara, the Emperor of Vedanta Samrajya suggested this to Bhakti to enter every Vaishnava and reside in them, in their mind, in their consciousness and get founded in them. One is poor, handicapped or with any sort of defects, if he has Bhakti, he is fortunate. Where Bhakti is, the Lord will be there. He is in the bhakti sutra or a concise principle of devotion which includes Jnana & Vairagya. Says Sanatkumara. In the middle of the assembly, Bhakti entered all Vaishnava followed by her children Jnana and Vairagya. This surprised Narada Rishi. Sanatkumara says to Narada Rishi that this is the glory of Srimad Bhagavatam, what more one could say. Srimad Bhagavatam is the physical form of the Lord. By serving this, the Lord will bestow his choicest blessing of Sayujyam or communion or closely united with Lord Krishna permanently and there is no Dharma equivalent to this. As Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya entered the consciousness and resided in all Vaishnava, the Bhakti sprouted and the Lord who likes his devotees beyond measure or Bhaktavatsala, came himself living his abode, Vaikunta to Ananda. The Lord came in the form of Sri Krishna.

  • 15. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 13 Sanatkumara, Narada Rishi and the other Bhagavatas worthy of the sight of Lord was wondering if the ornaments, the jewels, the flute, the Kaustabha or the fragrance of sandalwood paste adorned the Lord's body or the Lord had blessed them with his fractional features, the Lord entered the clean and spotless hearts of the assembled and to reside in their consciousness. With the appearance of shoots of Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya in all Vaishnava, a higher presence of Lord in their consciousness and the presence of bests of Bhagavata ’s the people assembled forgot their house and in fact, they had forgotten about their body. Lost in the thoughts of the Lord, everyone was engrossed with their mind & consciousness. They moved into transcendental state singing & dancing in ecstasy. Narada Rishi stood up, seeing the assembled, their emotional state and the holiness in the atmosphere, said thus to Kumaras: This is not, what is connected or happening of Earth. The atmosphere is like in that of Vaikunta. Lord has entered all and everyone is absorbed in the Lord. We have just started the Sapthaha and the impact has been surprising. People of various defects had come here. Some were dull ignorant & stupid not knowing of Lord. Some were fraud, cheat & tricky. Some were proud of having a high ego. Let alone, all those who had defects and sinned have got rid, even the animals & birds around have absolved their sins. Narada Rishi hailed Sanatkumara and acknowledged that what he had told has happened. To cleanse the mind and remove the filth in the mind, the only remedy is to serve Srimad Bhagavatam. SBM 08 - Srimad Bhagavatam, Redemption from Sins Narada Rishi, concerned for the people of Kali Yuga, endorsing Srimad Bhagavatam. He reiterated that this is the only reliable medicine for cleaning of one’s mind. With full of gratitude towards Sanatkumara for having shown a great remedy through Bhagavata Sapthaha, Narada Rishi further asked that by doing Saptaha Yagna, who all will get purified or get rid of sins and what sorts of sins one can get rid of? Sanatkumara says, Whatever sins one has done could be absolved by performing Bhagavata Sapthaha Yagna and those who are always involved in sins could also get rid. The person who has extreme anger and is always boiling with rage could get his sins absolved by Bhagavata Sapthaha. So too, the ones who are crook, criminal, always breaking the law and cruel. Also, the ones who are looking out for bad things, people who lie, deceive, fraudsters who have stolen the money of others and taken away others job could get rid of his sins by Bhagavata Sapthaha. The people who are greedy, desirous of materialistic luxuries, talk bad about parents. Ones who have not maintained the sanctity of ashramas like Brahamacharya, Grahasta, Vanaprastha or Sanyasi. The husband or wife having illicit relations. All of them could get rid of their sins. All those sinners, who have transgressed, abused and afflicted physically, orally or mentally could absolve their sins by the help of Bhagavata Sapthaha Yagna and is better than river Ganga. However, one should note that Srimad Bhagavatam has already clarified that any activity done without bhakti or devotion towards the Lord is of no use. Also, if one does not have a feeling of remorse, accept the sins and commit towards correction, then it would be like dipping the bottle of liquor in the Ganges. Like nothing could purify the liquor, so too, carrying out Bhagavata sapthaha would become mechanical and unyielding. Like a mother concerned about her child, with kindness and generosity, Jagannatha dasaru has composed a poem in old Kannada listing common man’s activities that would push one to the hell and taught how to seek refuge in Lord. Jaganatha Dasa, who lived from 1728 to 1809 was a great saint and an Aproksha Jnani. The highest transcendental knowledge blessed by the Lord with the sight of himself, after the consent of his Guru Gopala Dasa. While he has several spiritual literary works, Harikathamritasara is his magnum opus. His works are with his pen name as Jagannatha Vittala. • 17. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 15 The Shruti are telling that you have been awarded certificate as Purifier of Sins. My Lord, Jaganatha Vittla, you are pleasant like a moon, praising your glories, I take refuge in you. Siri Ramana Tava Charana - Sound Bites SBM 09 - The Choice of Atmadeva and Dunduli - Dundukari or Gokarna After clarifying the list of sins what one could get rid of with the service of Srimad Bhagavatam, Sanatkumara says that he would narrate a story. Hearing this, one could redeem sins. The incidence of the story happened about 30 years back from the date of Sapthaha organised by Narada Rishi and narrated by Sanatkumara. So, let’s hear that. There was a place on the banks of Tungabhadra, in South India. People following dharma and righteous path were living there. Among them was a person by name Atmadeva. He had studied all the four Vedas and well versed in Smriti. He was bright. He lived on alms as per his dharma. Also, he possessed wealth and spent on doing the right things. He had a wife by name Dunduli. She had two good attributes. One, she was born into a good family and the other, she looked pretty good. Else, she possessed bad characters. She was stubborn and always wanted to have her say. She never considered her husband’s opinion. She spent her time gossiping and carrying tales. She was a talebearer. Atmadeva loved her. She carried out household activities efficiently and the couples lived together. For a long time, they did not have children. For having children, Atmadeva started performing sacrifices and spiritual remedies. He started donating Cow, Land, Gold, etc. for Brahmins, poor and needy. While he continued his dharma of studying Shastra’s and donations, the wealth he possessed reduced, but they never got children. Over a period, Atmadeva got bogged down about having children and could not do anything else. One day being worried and tired, Atmadeva went to the bund of a lake and sat below a tree lost in the thoughts of not having children. Same time, a Sanyasi happen to come there. Seeing him, Atmadeva greeted him, offered his respects by falling at his feet. The saint, having seen the Atmadeva filled with sorrow & worry, enquired the reason. Atmadeva confessed that as he has been denied to have a child in this life, he has decided to suicide. He asks, what is the point of leading a life without a child? The house without children or the family without an heir is a waste. Atmadeva further says I am a sinner. If I buy a cow and rear it in my house, it will not give birth to a calf. Nor if I plant a tree it will yield fruit. Even, if I buy vegetables & Fruits to my house, it will dry. Also, if I carry out fire sacrifice and offer substance, those are not accepted by Gods. So too, what I donate to Brahmin and needy have not been answered by Gods. Filled with grief, Atmadeva reasons his decision to suicide. Having heard the Brahmin’s confession, the saint felt pity. He, through his divine vision, understood the fate and the future of Atmadeva and advised thus, Atmadeva! Do not expect nor worry of having children. Everyone is destined with a fate based on their deeds of past life and so are you. Don’t get attached with materialistic happenings and have a sense of Viveka or ability to distinguish. You would not have children even in your next seven births. This is what I have learned from your fate. So stop worrying about having children. Look at society & history, not all parents who have got children had happiness from them. Though King Sagara had 60,000 children, they all were burnt into ashes by Kapila Rishi and could not derive happiness from them. So, you renounce grihastha ashrama of Family life and adopt Sanyasa. There is peace and happiness in Sanyasa. Atmadeva says, Sanyasi, I am now not in a position to accept your advice nor I have the ability to distinguish. You have a lot of spiritual power, I beg you to kindly bless me with a child. Else, I will
  • 18. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 16 proceed with my decision to suicide. Also, without family & children, I don’t see how Sanyasis accomplish happiness in life. Grihastha ashrama or Family life is the best. Sanyasi saw that Atmadeva was stubborn and demeaned the Sanyasa dharma. However, the kind Sanyasi said, Brahamin, don’t be so stubborn. The stubbornness will only bring unhappiness to you. Asking a child beyond your fate will lead to untoward. This is also reemphasised by Prahalada in later part of Srimad Bhagavatam. Prahlada advises that like one does not work for getting unhappiness in life, so too one should not work with the expectation of happiness. However, observing that Atmadeva was not convinced, Sanyasi concluded that it was Atmadeva’s bad fate. He took fruit in his hand and conferred mantra on it. He gave the fruit to Atmadeva. He asked him to give it to his wife for her to eat. He also informed him to follow the procedures of dharma and left the place without to return. Atmadeva being very happy took the fruit and ran to his house. He narrated his encounter with Sanyasi and gave the fruit to his wife to eat. However, his wife Dunduli who was crooked took the fruit to her neighbor and started talking ill. She started worrying about the effects of pregnancy. While the virtuous women, do this as Tapas or austerity. With their attribute of affection, they feed the baby by generating milk. She was not prepared to let her womb grow nor face morning sickness nor nausea nor the pain to carry and deliver. Also, she was not prepared to follow the dharma of Satya or speak truth nor Saucha of maintaining cleanliness of body & mind nor Daya of being kind & affectionate nor Dana of donating to pious & needy nor eat food only once a day. This was suggested by the Saint who had promised birth of a good son. Having perverted thoughts, she did not have the fruit and kept it aside. However, she confirmed Atmadeva that she had the fruit. Having told lies, Dunduli started hatching a plan to make up for the lie she had told her husband, Atmadeva. Incidentally, at the same time, her sister happens to visit her. Dunduli, confesses the happenings and expresses her concern for having conspired against her husband. And also she expresses her worry that her conspiracy getting exposed. She asks her sister if she could suggest the way forward. Dunduli’s sister turns worse than her. While Dunduli hesitated to give birth to a child, her sister was prepared to do a business of selling a child. She says, please don’t worry. I am pregnant. After having delivered, I will pass on my baby to you. Till such time you act as if you are pregnant. You may worry that how I could convenience my husband. But don’t worry, arrange some money and I shall convenience my husband also. For those people who have seen me carrying, I would tell them that there was unfortunate abortion. The baby died. The fruit that you have hidden from your husband, feed it to the Cow. Let us check if the Cow is going to conceive. The plan of Dunduli and her sister started unfolding with time. They were successful in executing the plan. Dunduli’s sister delivered a baby boy. Her husband brought the baby secretly and gave it to Dunduli. Dunduli communicated to Atmadeva that she delivered a baby boy. Being very happy, Atmadeva donated wealth to Brahmin and got the baby’s horoscope done. Also, he arranged Jatakarma including placing the baby in the cradle, offering to the Lord in a temple, Naming the baby, piercing the ear for an earring and so on. As per the wish of his wife, he named the baby as Dundukari. He celebrated all these auspicious activities full of pomp and festivity. Meantime, Dunduli informed Atmadeva that she has not enough milk to feed the baby. She asked Atmadeva to invite her sister to their house who had just delivered and lost the baby. So that her sister could also feed the child. Atmadeva did so. After about three months from the birth of Dundukari, the cow which was fed with the fruit received from Sanyasi also delivered. To everyone’s surprise, the cow delivered a baby boy. The baby had a divine face and ear that was like Cow. Atmadeva was very happy about it. He also arranged Jatakarma and carried out all auspicious activities. He named the child as Gokarna which literally meant that one with ears of Cow. All the people of the town visited him. They all congratulated Atmadeva and said that though he did not have a child for a long time, now he is being blessed with two children. The Cow has also delivered a human baby. However, no one understood the conspiracy of Dunduli and her sister. Both the children grew up by time. They grew up in the same house and became youth. While Gokarana at every stage, as he grew up, became Knowledgeable and Pundit.

Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 17 However, Dundukari was stupid, unclean, never maintained personal hygiene, was short-tempered, rowdy, indiscriminate, lit fire to others house, pushed small kids into well, troubled others, made fun of handicaps and did such other cruel deeds. Always he was in the company of bad people. As he became a youth, he fell into habits of gambling and womanising. That way he lost all the hereditary wealth of the family. He would, beat-up his parents for more money. Seeing all this, Atmadeva and Dunduli, the parents of Dundukari, lost their heart and started wailing in front of their near and dear. They wondered how they could get rid of the issue and who would help them. They also cursed their fate and started repenting for having a child. Meantime, their other son Gokarna returned home after higher education and got to know on various development. Consoling his parents and suggesting the path of Vairagya or impassion, Gokarna says, this samsara involving a cycle of death and birth is constituted of very little happiness and fight to accomplish it. Rest major part constitutes difficulty, sorrow, and unhappiness. Also, the little happiness what one sees in life would only make a pathway for sorrow. However, we live with the illusion of being happy and as if all is going well. There is no substance in life. We keep claiming about our children, wealth and so on. However, the relation among all these is like the relation between the flame, oil, twig and the lamp. The flame has a friendship with a twig as long as oil is there. So too, the closeness of friendship would be the amount of sorrow one should burn. We forget about the Lord Paramatma who is always a companion in life after life and all state of life. I should tell that even a King or a rich man in this samsara has to face the same. Only the person who is happy in this world is a Vairagi or an Impassionate. Also, this body will die, one or the other day. Atmadeva, remembering the earlier advice of Sanyasi. Realising his mistakes, saw Gokarana as a well- wisher. He enquired as to what to do after taking-up vanaprastha ashrama. Gokarna says one has to leave attachments with the body and so too on ownership of children, relations, assets or wealth. One should strengthen their resolve against materialistic pleasure which is short lived. Living on the righteous path, one should do service of Saints, develop bhakti in the Lord and Jnana of him. Doing so, one should curtail the desire for possession and enjoyment. Also, one should stop seeing materialistic prosperity or defects in others. Serve Srimad Bhagavatam by hearing, reading or narrating. By doing so enjoy the flavor of Srimad Bhagavatam and bring its dharma into practice. Atmadeva had become old and over sixty years of age. He became impassionate and resolute to follow the path shown by Gokarna. Srimad Bhagavatam and its dharma became very close to his heart. He took refuge of Srimad Bhagavatam to overcome all impediments. The tenth Skanda became very dear to him, more than his life. Lord Sri Krishna blesses him with Sayujya and Atmadeva joins the Lotus feet of the Lord.  Go to Contents SBM 10 – Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha to Uplift of Dundukari After Atmadeva had left his home to take up vanaprastha ashrama, Dundukari used to beat-up his mother and took away all her wealth. Dunduli unable to manage her son jumped into a well and committed suicide. Gokarna became more pious and was on a pilgrimage visiting Holy places. He maintained a very low relation with the material world. Hence, in happiness or dejection, friends or enemies, relatives did not bother him and remained at peace & tranquil.
  • 20. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 18 Dundukari continued with his bad habits and had illicit relations with five women. All of them started staying in the house. These women would always have demanded valuable things. To meet their demands, Dundukari, would attack the travelers and rob them. By robbing profession, he had accumulated a lot of wealth. Seeing this, his five women friends thought that Dundukari had a lot of wealth. They were worried that if Dundukari gets caught, they may also have to face the law. Hence they planned to murder him and take away the wealth. Like every day, Dundukari returned home in the evening after having completed his day’s affairs. His five women welcomed him, served him food and they slept for the day. In the midnight when Dundukari was fast asleep, all the five women together tied-up his hands & legs. When Dudukari opened his mouth to scream. They stuffed cloths into his mouth and wrapped his face. Also, they put a noose at his neck and tightened it to choke him to death. However, Dundukari continued to breathe. Being desperate, they covered his face with burning coal and killed him. After they killed him, they dug a pit in an unused corner of the house and buried the body on the same night. The death of Dundukari was not known to anyone in the village. On any acquaints enquiry of Dundukari, the five would say that he had gone to a foreign land for earning money. So, Sanatkumara says that one should not have an affair with women who are socially insensitive. While they talk as if very loving & caring, but they will ultimately bid badly. And further continues to tell the story. Later, these five women distributed the stolen wealth of Dundukari among themselves. They abandoned the house and disappeared. Meanwhile, Dundukari, for all the crime he had done, had to become a ghost. He had to leave on this earth like wind and without a form or body. Without appearance, he had to wander and face the heat of the Sun or the wetness of the Rain. He had to face extreme hunger and thirst without being able to eat to fill his stomach nor drink water to quench his thirst. This way he was struggling day and night. Having no one for help, he would scream to God for help. Gokarna, who had been on pilgrimage returned home and heard the happenings with Dundukari from neighbors. Being concerned for Dundukari and worried if he had to assume ghost, carried out Shraddha or ceremony for peaceful passway of the dead. Also, he carried out Shraddha in Gaya and in all places of pilgrimage he made. These way having done shraddha for dead and pilgrimage, Gokarna returned to his place. As the sun had set, being dark, he went to the house where Dundukari would live and slept that night outside the house. In the midnight, shocking horror awaited him. He could see a Ghost that was taking different forms like that of Ram, Elephant, and Buffalo. Also, it appeared in the form of Indra and Agni Gods. Sometimes in the form of Human. Having seen the ghost, Gokarna without being scared wondered that someone has done a lot of sins and suffering badly. He enquired the ghost, who was he? What is the reason that you had to have such a violent form? Are you a Preatha, dead person or a Pishacha, Ghost or Brahma Rakshasa, Spirit of dead Brahmin? Tell me the truth! However, having no voice, the ghost made some signs. Hence, Gokarna took some water in the hand and after repetition of mantra seeking the Lord's help, threw it on the Ghost. With the strength of the mantra, the Ghost was able to speak and narrated his story. The Ghost says I was your older brother, Dundukari in my previous life. For all my sins, I don’t have a Passway to other worlds. I cannot draw a conclusion that the sins I have done is within some limits. I

It was those women whom I trusted and believed were the reason for my death. You have to help and free me from my present status for my prosperity. Gokarna was surprised and told the Ghost that he has been doing Shraddha or ceremonies for peaceful passway in various holy places including the holiest, Gaya with proper procedure. However, that had not helped the diseased Dundukari. Hence, Gokarna asked the ghost to suggest the way forward. The Ghost said to Gokarna that performing hundreds of Shardha would also not help as he was a big sinner. The Ghost seeking help told Gokarna that he should find a different remedy. Gokarna not knowing the way forward asked the Ghost to return to its place and assured it that he will try to find a way forward from the more learned. Gokarna spent the night thinking about how to help his deceased brother. After, dawn he got up. He exchanged greetings with his neighbors and narrated the fate of Dundukari. He asked remedy from learned, Yogis & Saints but in vain. They could not find any remedy written in any dharma shastra. Hence, they suggested him to seek the help of Sun who is a witness for all happenings. Gokarna started praying the Sun God. Without blinking his eyes, he meditated and made the Sun stop still. He prayed for the blessing of Sun God and repeatedly asked the way for getting mukti to his past brother, Dundukari. The Sun God pleased with Gokarna’s devotion suggested through a voice from the sky to perform Bhagavata Sapthaha. All those present around him also heard the message and were pleased. Gokarna with full of enthusiasm and devotion took-up the dhiksha or initiation for parayana or reading of Srimad Bhagavatam. He followed all procedures including Brahmacharya or vow of chastity very strictly. This news spread far and wide. People from towns, cities, and villages started flocking to participate in Srimad Bhagavatam Sapthaha. People who were handicapped also reached there. All congregated with a sense of purpose and feeling of remorse to get rid of their past sins. They were with full of devotion and keen to move closer to the Lord. Gokarna with cleanliness sat on a dais and had a Vishnu Bhakta sitting in front of him as a main Shrothru or audience. As he started, the ghost of past Dundukari also arrived there. It was not visible to anyone. Without giving any clue to anyone settled on to hollow bamboo. The hollow bamboo was appropriate and had seven joints. It was placed on the corner of the dais. Gokarna, following all the procedures, started reciting Srimad Bhagavatam. He narrated the philosophical investigation of stories in Srimad Bhagavatam for day to day application. As he completed the first day’s portion of Srimad Bhagavatam, a loud sound of rupture was heard from the bamboo. All the people there were surprised. They saw that a bamboo lying in the direction of sound had ruptured at a joint. However, no one could understand the correct reason for the rupture. Even on the next day as Gokarna concluded the second day’s portion, similar incidence happened with the second joint of bamboo getting ruptured with a loud sound. Similarly, each day the scenario repeated with one joint rupturing as Gokarna concluded the day’s portion. In seven days, Gokarna had completed all twelve Skanda or chapters of Srimad Bhagavatam. In these seven days, Dundukari had left his Ghosthood and acquired a divine form. He was wearing a garland of Tulsi or Basil leaves. Also, he was wearing yellow robes. He appeared in his dark skin like the color of monsoon cloud. He wore a gold crown and fish-shaped earrings that was studded with jewels. As he took this divine form, he thanked Gokarna for helping him to get rid of Ghosthood. SBM 11 - Lord's Grace on Gokarna and completion of Sapthaha by Sanatkumara. The divine form of erstwhile Dundukari sang the glory of Srimad Bhagavatamm. He told that Srimad Bhagavatam would help one to get rid of all types of Sins. Also, it is the only remedy to end the cruel birth of Ghosthood. There is no dharma equivalent to Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha. This is the best dharma that one has to follow for mukti or to break the cycle of death and birth. Hearing Srimad Bhagavatam, the sins would shiver. Any sort of sins, whether extreme or small, done mentally or orally or physically would burn like the wood put into the fire in a Fire ceremony. One should read or hear Srimad Bhagavatam at least once in life. The divine form asks, in the body which is temporary, if one does not hear the Suka Shastra of Srimad Bhagavatam, what is the point carrying the body? The body is to carry the stinking feces and urine in a frame of bones, tied up with nerves, stuffed with flesh and blood, and covered with skin is a small house. It is a cause for diseases, pain, and suffering. Any amount of good one puts into the body it only converts to bad and can fall anytime with death. The tattva jnanis or Philosophers call the body as worms, dirt,
  • 22. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 20 useless or other names. The rice or the other foodstuff cooked in the morning will start decaying by evening. How long the body could live which is sustained by such food? Oh! Revered, with Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha, one could see the Lord in his divine form. This is the only medicine to get rid of Sins. Like the bubble in the water or the worms in the dirt, human beings too take birth to die one day. Even though of this status if one doesn't hear Srimad Bhagavatam, what is the use! During Bhagavata Sapthaha, we witnessed the rupture of seven joints of a non-living bamboo. So, what is the difficulty for Sapthaha to unknot the invisible granthi or knots of Avarana or concealment of Jivaatma or Soul including Jeevachadika, Paramachadika, Kama, Karma, lingadeha, Prakriti and Bhagavat Icha. The Sapthaha removes ignorance and brings clarity of mind. Also, removes Sins, actions of duty and accomplishes Mukti. As the divine form of Dundukari spoke, an exclusive, bright flying plane arrived from the sky. In that plane were the messengers of Lord Vishnu. The people assembled were wonderstruck. As they saw, the messengers of Lord invited the divine form of Dundukari to take him to Vaikunta. Meantime, Gokarna told the messengers that the others too were equal participants. Gokarna questioned the reason for preferential treatment to Dundukari and difference in divine favor. The messengers of Lord Vishnu says, Gokarna, What you say is right to the extent of listening to Srimad Bhagavatam. However, the process or procedure followed is different. The Ghost of Dundukari not only heard but also understood the philosophic basis behind the story of Srimad Bhagavatam. Also, with a firm belief in Srimad Bhagavatam and by fasting the Ghost heard and understood the quintessence of Srimad Bhagavatam. Without a firm Knowledge or understanding of Philosophy with due deliberation nor doing mantra without belief nor doing Japa without a calm mind nor a country without devotees nor Charity for unworthy nor a community without behavior is of use or yield good merit. Further, the messengers say, for one to get full benefits from hearing Srimad Bhagavatam they should have full faith in their Gurus, humility in oneself, control and have a firm mind. Based on one's commitment and the procedure they follow, they would get the fruit. Hence they suggested the assembled to repeat the Bhagavata Sapthaha following all procedures. For Gokarna, the messengers said that Lord Govinda himself would take him to his abode. Saying this, the messengers of Lord Vishnu boarded the divine plane along with Dundukari's divine form and left to Vaikunta doing Hari Keertana or Singing the praises of the Lord. Gokarna performed Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha in Sravana masa. This time himself and all the people followed the procedure. They were attentive, understood the philosophy and they were fasting. A more surprise awaited this time. In fact, this time the Lord Vishnu himself came down with his attendants in his and stood in the middle of the assembly. All the people attending Sapthaha seeing the Lord in his divine form stood up and started singing his glory. His name of Jaya or Victory and Namaha or All about Lord was heard from all directions. Seeing that the people were full of enthusiasm and devotion, The Lord blew his conch and embraced Gokarna with all his four arms blessing him by treating as if his equal.
  • 23. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 21 For all those people who attended the Sapthaha, the Lord blessed them Saaroopya or the form of himself. Along with all the animals of that place were accommodated in the plane and the Lord sent them to amukta Vaikunta. This cannot be accomplished even by great Yogis who have successfully accomplished Sevier austerity. The blessings that were bestowed by Lord Sri Rama earlier in Treta Yuga, similar blessings were bestowed by Lord Sri Krishna in Dwapara Yuga which is even difficult for Gods like Sun & Moon and great Yogis to receive. Also, the Lord took Gokarna in his own plane to Goloka of Vaikunta. This Glory of Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam has become an example and has been recorded by Lord Veda Vyasa in Padma Purana. This story is very dear to Shandilya muni who lived in Chitrakoot. He repeats the narration often and practices. If one listens at least once in their life, the story of Dundukarai of how even a ghost got liberated by hearing Srimad Bhagavatam, he will get rid of his many sins. If one hears this episode during a performance of Shraddha of their forefathers, their forefathers will be satisfied. If one reads this episode daily, he can break the cycle of death & birth and accomplish moksha. Sanatkumara, after having narrated the story of Atmadeva, Dunduli, Dundukari, and Gokarna to Narada Rishi, he started narrating the procedure to be carried out for Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha, the substance required and Fasting requirement. For the purpose of Shanti or Peace after completing the Sapthaha, Sanatkumara narrated the Dharma of serving food to Brahmins and others. After which, Sanatkumara narrated the entire Srimad Bhagavatam in an elaborated and detailed way from beginning to end. In those seven days, all followed the necessary procedure and heard Srimad Bhagavatam from Sanatkumara. In the end, everyone sang the Glory of the Lord with full of devotion. Jnana and Vairagya had regained their youth. For having accomplished the objective, Narada Rishi was filled with Joy. He was bursting with happiness. Narada Rishi with full of benevolence and folded hand, eyes filled with tears of joy and chocking voice thanking Sanatkumara said that with your kind blessings I have become fortunate. Lord Sriman Narayana himself has come and occupied my heart. Leaving his abode Vaikunta, The Lord Mahavishnu himself has appeared in the middle of the gathering at the end of Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha. Is there any other dharma greater than this! SBM 12 - The Power of Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha organised by Narada Rishi As Narada Rishi thanked Sanatkumara for guiding and narrating Srimad Bhagavatam in Sapthaha, the most knowledgeable and the son of Lord Veda Vyasa arrived at the gathering. He had the divine charisma, appearing as Sixteen years old was as pleasant as full moon. Having accomplished all that needs to be accomplished, was gentle and reciting the verses of Srimad Bhagavata out of devotion. Sri Sukacharya being a Guru or the teacher of Srimad Bhagavatam for all those who had assembled, the moment everyone saw him arriving the assembly, they got-up and offered him salutations with great respect and devotion. Narada Rishi came to the fore, washed his feet with water and sprinkled that water on all the assembled including himself with full of respect and devotion. After having taken the seat, Sri Sukacharya addressing the gathering said this: िनगमक तरोगिलतं फलं शुकमुखादमृत वसंयुतम् । िपबत भागवतं रसमालयं मु रहो रिसका भुिव भावुका ॥ Hey, Virtuous & Warm-hearted ones, Lord Vishnu's bhaktas, you are having a taste for spiritual experience. In a tree called Vedas which is kalpavruksha or a wish-fulfilling, the tastiest fruit has been borne. Like the tastiest fruit is bitten by Suka or Parrot and the saliva of parrot further increases the taste. So too, Srimad Bhagavata narrated by me Suka is elaborated literature of Vedas is like the juice of fruit from the tree of Vedas and easy to relish. All of you enjoy and relish the Juice as also being done by the Virtuous of the higher world till they get moksha. Srimad Bhagavata, contains the complete knowledge of Dharma which holds one from falling down, purifies and puts on to the path leading to The Lord. This path seeks continued practice of honouring, worshipping, admiring & praising The Lord without any jealousy or expectation nor being deceptive. While being on the path, removes all sorts of difficulties, bestows prosperity, makes one sajjana or virtuous and solidify bhakti or devotion. Hence, Srimad Bhagavata composed by The Lord Veda Vyasa
  • 24. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 22 himself is great and guarantees to reveal The Lord who is always present in the heart of all the individuals. Srimad Bhagavata is like a tilaka or the mark on the forehead among all Puranas. Also, is like a treasure for all those believers of Lord Vishnu and also to ones who have sacrificed everything and taken up Sanyasi Ashram. Not only it imparts knowledge but is also like a handbook for Serious Practitioners leading them to Mukti. One who hears or reads this Srimad Bhagavatam will get mukti. This elaborated Srimad Bhagavatam was not composed in Satya Loka, Svarga Loka or Heaven, Kailasa, Vaikunta by the Lord Veda Vyasa. This is exclusive for the people of Kali Yuga on this earth. Hence, one could forego anything in his life but should try to practice Srimad Bhagavatam always. As Sri Sukacharya was talking, Lord Sri Hari appeared in his majestic form. He had four shoulders holding Chakra, Shankha, Gada and Padma, wearing Yellow robes, full of ornaments and smiling. He was wearing the mark of Srivatsa in his chest wherein Goddess Lakshmi in her pleasant face was in her deep meditation trying to observe the Lords attributes unfolding like trying to hold a wave of water gushing down the mountains. He was towering in the middle of Prahalada, Bali, Uddhava, Arjuna and his other dear devotees. Narada Rishi filled with devotion offered the Lord arghya and padya and made him sit on the highest pedestal. As the Lord seated, all started doing nama sankeertana or singing the praises of the Lord. To watch this God Brahma along with Goddess Saraswati and God Rudra along with Goddess Parvati came from Satya Loka & Kailasa. As Prahlada started with tala or clapping with hand and fingers with a rhythmic beat to set-off the melodic raga, Uddhava started clapping with brass tala, Narada Rishi played Veena, Arjuna started singing with raga of the music, Devendra was playing mrudangam. As Arjuna started singing, Sanakadi munis were repeating Jai Jai phrases at appropriate points of song. Lord’s son Sri Sukacharya orchestrated the music. As they got absorbed, they were perplexed to see several forms of Lord in Shruti and in one form of Lord as their attention moved svara. Their admiration for the Glory of the Lord was unimaginable to the people on earth. Among all of these Gods, Bhakti, Jnana & Vairagya were dancing to the music in ecstasy. As the music ended, Narada Rishi submitted the sankeertana to Lord. The Lord for whom the devotees are most dear said that I am pleased with your act of singing, so ask me any boon that you wish to have. The best of Bhagavatas always involved with Lord without any expectations to themselves requested the Lord only to make his presence along with them in a significant way in all those devotees who conducts or participates in Srimad Bhagavata Sapthaha. Lord blessing the same said so be it and disappeared. Starting with Sri Sukacharya, all prostrated to the place where Lord last stood or to the invisible footprint. That included Sanatkumar, Narada Rishi and all other Rishi including Brighu Rishi. The Jnani, Bhakti and Vairagya who had taken their physical form were found into Srimad Bhagavatam by Sri Sukacharya. For any sort of poverty, sorrow, a physical disorder including fever, Illusion, ghosthood, black magic including crossing over the sea of death and birth Srimad Bhagavatam would solve. Hearing Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam from Sri Sutacharya, Saunaka Rishi asks when did Sri Sukacahrya narrate to Parakshit Raja and when did Gokarna and SanatKumara narrate. Please clarify Sri Sutacharya says, Thirty years after disappearance of Lord Krishna, on the 9th thiti in the bright period of the month Bhadrapada, Sri Sukacharya started narration for seven days with Parakshit Raja as main Shrothru or audiance. About Two hundred years thereafter Gokarna narrated Srimad Bhagavata starting Ashad shuda navmai for seven days. We have also read that in the month of Sravan of the same year, Gokarna repeated. Thirty years thereafter i.e. about 260 years after disappearance of Lord Krishna, Narada Rishi organised Bhagavata Sapthaha in Ananda, Haridwar on the banks of Ganga and Sanatkumara narrated Srimad Bhagavata. Sri Sutacharya further says that the only medicine to cure psychological illness. It is very dear to the Lord, the Lord resides in it, kalikalmasha or the filth created by pollution of Kali can be cleaned only by Srimad Bhagavata. Gives bukti or all materialistic happiness and then mukti. Everyone should hear with respect and devotion. Gives better results than going to pilgrimage said Sutacharya. The assistants of Yama Raja, the God of death would always be on their toes looking out to take the life of people who have expend their lifespan on earth. However, Yama Raja keeps instructing his assistants saying, make no mistake of touching Lord Vishnu’s devotees or Vaishnava’s or those who have desire to hear Lord’s Stories. They are not under my jurisdiction. They will be dealt with by the messengers of Lord Vishnu. In this materialistic world where there is little substance, don’t get consumed. Relish the flavor of the Juice of Srimad Bhagavatam for at least half an hour a day. Parakshit raja who joined the Lord’s feet
  • 25. Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam https://tattvajnana.blogspot.com/ 23 by hearing Srimad Bhagavatam is the witness! Says Sri Sutacharya who was present and witnessed Parakshit raja leaving his physical body to join Lord’s feet. Further, he says that those who are always narrating the verses of Srimad Bhagavatam would become Kings in the Vaikunta. This is the Philosophy of all Philosophies or quintessence of Philosophy. The best for purification of mind for those desirous to accomplish success. There is nothing which is not in one’s reach if one hears or reads or narrates Srimad Bhagavatam with attention towards procedure and devotion! Says Sri Sutacharya. Hence, let’s pray to our Gurus and their indweller, Lord, that let us be blessed with the service of Srimad Bhagavata at all times and particularly during the last moments of our Life. Let Srimad Bhagavatam fill our heart. Hari Om This auspicious Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam has been recorded by Lord Veda Vyasa in Uttara khanda of Pudma Purana. In Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Sukacharya in the second skanda, 4th adhyaya, 17th verse says following Bhagavata dharma: तप नो दानपरा यश नो मन नो म िवदः सुम लाः । ेमं न िव िवना यदपणं त ै सुभ वसे नमो नमः ॥ १७॥ There is no assured happiness at all times, even if one does the best of Penance or the highest Charity or is a famous Celebrity or is the brightest mind or knows the entire Vedas or is the most Prosperous unless he offers his Penance, or Charity or Fame or Intelligence or Knowledge of Vedas to that Splined, full of Auspicious and Renowned Lord. My Salutations to such Lord. The whole of Srimad Bhagavata Mahatmyam, what has been read, heard, understood and written by me in these twelve blogs is only of my limit. Also, this little has been possible only because of the blessings of Guru Sri Raghavendra and all his philosophical associates including Sri Sukacharya. Hence, I submit to them in who resides, Mukya Prana and in whom resides various forms of Lord including Srinivasa, Lakshmi Narasimha and Veda Vyasa who are not different. Hari Om. Sri Krishnarpanamastu.
