2. JNU Admission 2018: JNUEE, Entrance Exam
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is the premier
University which holds an entrance examination
(JNUEE) for admission to various UG, PG and doctoral
courses. The written examination of JNU is conducted
once in a year in the third week of May 2018 tentatively.

5. Eligibility Criteria
M.A. in Economics
(with Specialization
in World Economy)
•Bachelor’s degree passed with minimum
50% aggregate marks in the following
subjects:
•Economics (Hons.) with Mathematics as
a subsidiary subject or Mathematics
(Hons.) with Economics as as a
subsidiary subject or Statistics (Hons.)
with Mathematics and Economics as a
subsidiary subject.
•Any bachelor’s degree passed with
Mathematics & Economics by securing
60% marks.

6. The paper pattern of JNUEE 2018 include details about number of
questions, subjects, marking scheme, etc. For each programme of
JNU, there shall be different exam pattern.
Exam Mode: The examination will be written in offline mode.
Number of Questions: There shall be different number of
questions for each programme.
Subjects: The subjects that includes in question paper will depend
upon the course. Subjects varies from course to course.
Negative Marking: There shall be negative marking for incorrect
answers.
Exam Duration: The time provided for completing the examination
will be 3 hours.

7. M.A. in Economics (with Specialization in World Economy)
The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge in micro-economics, macro-economics,
mathematics and statistics, International trade and some
related disciplines, such as public economics and economic development.
Objective type questions will be asked in examination comprising of 100 marks with
negative marking.
1) 8 less explanatory questions with 5 marks each and some proofs too, and
out of which, 6 ought to be solved
2) 30 multiple choice questions of one mark each
3) 3Elaborative questions with 10 marks each, out of which, 2 was required
to be solved.
4) one 20 mark easy writing question, with a choice of 1 from 6 given
topics.

8. Statistics: . The main focus should be on Probability, Averages and Dispersion.
Microeconomics: The principle focus should be on utility maximization, special cases of
perfect substitutes and compliments, different productions and cost functions with emphasis
on their minimization exercise and profit maximization problems, different forms of
competition encompassing perfect competition, monopoly, basic theory of general
equilibrium, questions of allocation and Pareto optimality.
Macroeconomics: Basic knowledge of average graduation level should be sufficient.
Emphasis on growth models, e.g., Harrod-Domar, Solow-Swan model should be laid. Also,
focus should be directed towards Keynsian macroeconomics pertaining to multipliers of
closed and open economy, IS-LM etc.

9. Mathematical Economics: focus on series, sequences, functions and
relations, sets, basic calculus such as integration and differentiation.
Incorporate notions of implications, quantifiers etc. in Logic.
General Knowledge: previous years questions are frequently
repeated, therefore, suggestion is to solve previous years
questions, available in JNU, at the time of application process.
