5. Introduction to Sambalpuri dance ज़
✿Sambalpuri Dance is the Most famous Folk Dance of
Western Odisha . Dances Originating from the Villages are
known as Folk Dance.

There are many types of Sambalpuri Dances in western
odisha, like Dalkhai , Jaiphula , Maleshree, Rasarakeli,
Chutkuchuta, Mailazada, karma, Dula biha , Ghudka .
✿
It is mainly a tribal dance in honour of God "Karam Sani",.
7. COSTUMES
✿ The male dancer wears a simple khadi cloth and a Sambalpuri
hawaii shirt, and ties a red towel round his waist.

The women generally dress themselves
in colourful Sambalpuri Saris and wear a
scarf on the shoulders holding the ends
below in both the hands.
10. WHEN TO DO THE DANCE ?
✿
Young girls are observe “Dalkhai fast ” during
Ashtami day. They worship to goddess Durga .
they sing the Dalkhai song and dance with the
rhythm of Drums , Nishan , Tasha, Muhuri .
Dancing is done with such fervour and intensity
11. ORNAMENTS ̍;
✿The ornaments and jewellery the danseuse wears
include traditional bangles, armlets, bracelets, thread
khagala on the neck, pan petri and flowers on the head,
earrings, nose ring and anklets. The red alta around the
dancer’s feet .

This dance was to propitiate the gods, to fight
against evil, and to pacify the invisible tiny atman
(soul). It was performed during fairs, festivals,
marriages and around the time harvest .
