You may have to adjust your volume a few times throughout the presentation. I tried my best to adjust where I could, but I didn't realize- when I was recording- that the volume was way lower for some. I'm a mess, I'm sorry.
4. p i a n o
I’ve been playing piano
since I was six years old. I’ve
performed solo, in a few
duets(eg. in the picture to
the left), and with a band.
I learn to play songs by
reading sheet music, playing
by ear, or from a tutorial.
5. types of ways to learn a
piece of music
1. Reading the sheet music.
You can follow what notes
to play and how loud/quiet
to play it by reading the
notation.
This is a piece that I used to learn how
to play a song from an anime I watch.

2. Playing by ear: Listening to
someone play the song and
trying to play the same
notes on the piano, maybe
writing it down to remember.

I’m using to help me figure out how to
play a piece.
7. 3. Following a video tutorial:
Often a song you might
want to play has been
recorded as a tutorial by
someone on YouTube or
other video sites. This is the
easiest way for people
without formal music
education to learn a song.

8. music collection
I use all three
ways to learn songs,
but I mostly learn by
reading sheet music.
This is a pile of all
the music books I’ve
amassed over the
years. I don’t remember
how to play everything I
learned, though.

In addition to
playing the piano, I
also love to sing. I’ve
been in choir since
grade seven, and
have always been
singing since I was
little.

“I love music. I've been singing all my life, playing piano very young. I can hear a song and figure out
how to play it on the piano with some effort. I know a decent amount about reading and writing
music, of which the basics aren't too difficult to understand. But to read quickly, it takes lots and lots
and LOTS of practice.
I listen to music when I'm frustrated and upset, to calm me down and give me peace of mind. So,
music is incredibly important to me.
There are many different genres of music. I'm most familiar with classical, pop, and electronic music
genres. I learned mostly classical songs on the piano, because they teach dexterity and dynamics to
learning students. I'm still learning, and I will never stop learning new things about piano, but I've
been playing for around eight years or so.
There are actually sub-categories in classical music: one was baroque, which was music from a time
where it was played for ballroom dances. The composers made it clear where the main beat was, so
people could dance to it well.
Pop music is pretty self-explanatory. It's lots of strong voices and rap songs, etcetera, that you would
hear on the modern radio channels, and many people know about it. My favourite pop artists
include Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift. I guess you could say there are a lot of hip-hop songs
as well.
Electronic music is quite fascinating. People have built these strange, small, control-panel like
machines, with lots of interchangeable wires and buttons. These machines are instruments, and
they can make sounds that are impossible on other instruments. They sound crazy futuristic and
alien-like, but when put together they can make quite the beat.
There are tons of other genres, like soul, rock n' roll, jazz, and plenty others. Most everyone enjoys
listening to music: whether it's to relax, make yourself feel better, or for inspiration, some type of
music has been integral in every person's life.”
19. reflective
response
5 things I would share with a new student:
Work on your project gradually! Don’t procrastinate until the
last few days, because you won’t be proud of your work. And
the assignments take longer than you might expect.
Make sure to add a little bit of humour to your projects, so it’s
more interesting.
Use as many given options as you can, and give yourself time
to experiment with new programs.
Ask someone to check your project over before handing it in to
find little mistakes and get feedback.
ALWAYS SAVE YOUR WORK PERIODICALLY.
20. reflective
response
What are your thoughts on using Web 2.0 tools?
It was a little bit frustrating, as some programs that I was
hoping to use wouldn’t load for me(glogster) or were very slow
(the screen recorder I used kept glitching).
I enjoyed the creative freedom in these assignments, I didn’t
have to use a specific medium or write a certain amount of
information.
The open-endedness also made me stretch my brain to figure
out what I could show, what would be of some interest to
others who watch my projects.
I could use all of these things in future projects, because just
writing paragraphs or pages of writing is a bit repetitive.
People would be more engaged with more variety in the
presentations.
