Chief Accountant

Immediate start for the right person, you must be working in the UK or have recent UK banking experience .
Responsibilities
• All financial aspects for the formulation of appropriate strategies for the business
• Initiation and co-ordination of business plans/budgets and monitoring of progress towards their
achievement, and identification of opportunities to maximize earnings and minimize risk
• Quality and professionalism of the Finance function and improvement of understanding of
finance and accounting issues by other divisional heads and staff
• Development of financial data and reports for business management in the form and at the
frequency required by the management committee, the London Board and Head Office
• Provision of financial management information and its interpretation for effective business
decision making to maximize returns
• Timely and accurate preparation of statutory financial statements and annual accounts in
accordance with statutory requirements and accounting standards
• Preparation and maintenance of policy and procedure manuals in Finance and Accounting
• Control of operating expenses and capital expenditure programme to ensure adherence to
budget limits
• In conjunction with other business managers, to ensure maintenance of adequate accounting
and other records and internal controls in the Finance area
• Ensure that taxation affairs are planned and managed so as to optimize the tax position
• Co-ordination of external audit function
• Lead, motivate, and develop staff in the Finance and Accounting function.
• Ad hoc projects assigned by CEO or CFO
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Professional qualification in Accounting or Finance discipline, preferably with Master’s degree
• Managerial experience in the Accounting, Banking and/or Auditing fields
• Highly competent in producing written reports
• In-depth knowledge of accounting standards/theory, and financial management
principles/techniques, including planning, forecasting and budgeting, in a banking environment.
Knowledge of Commodities would be a distinct advantage.
• Knowledge of UK taxation and regulatory requirements
• Proficiency for making financial evaluations and judgments and an ability to present
recommendations, both oral and written
• Microsoft Word and Excel
