JOB OPPORTUNITY FOR COPY EDITOR AT BUSINESS RECORDER RESEARCH
Pakistan’s biggest financial newspaper, the daily Business Recorder (BR), seeks to induct a copy
editor for its research department.

Job Description
Core responsibilities
- Your main job will be to ensure that the department’s output is readable, accurate,
consistent, and ready for publication. The work includes:
o Checking text to ensure its well written
o Correcting grammar and spelling
o Ensuring the copy is in line with the department’s style guide
o Checking facts and raising queries with the author
o Checking graphs, tables, and other illustrations
- Manage daily web, social media, and newsletter updates
- Liaise with the paper’s design team
- Manage the department’s year-long internship programme, and assist in overall
operational management as and when assigned by the department’s senior fellows
- Periodically update the department’s writing style guide, and nudge writers to follow it
Side responsibilities
- Twice weekly contribute to any of the three types of department’s publications (See BR
Research profile and products on pages 3 & 4)
- Attend conferences/seminars on behalf of BR Research, and write short commentaries
on it for daily BR Research columns
- Perform desk review for new projects/new products; help prepare questionnaires for
weekly interviews and surveys
- Contribute feature articles on different sectors for the purpose of periodic supplements,
in-depth sector reports, magazines, and other publications, as and when needed.

Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- Excellent writing skills in English language
- Demonstrable portfolio as a writer/reporter/copy editor
- Ability to follow strict deadlines and fact-check information
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel
- An academic background in journalism or social science
Candidates with proven interest in economic/business journalism will be preferred.

Formed in July 2009, BR Research is the research wing of Pakistan’s premier financial
newspaper, the daily Business Recorder. In keeping with BR’s tradition of pioneering economic
journalism in the country, BR Research is Pakistan’s first research-oriented mainstream media

Its main product is the newspaper’s agenda-setting column that focuses on wide ranging topics –

Monday to Friday on page-2 (inside front) of the newspaper.
