How did you join SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, SPIE SAG?
NilsNeusel-Lange:IstudiedelectricalengineeringandbusinessadministrationatWuppertal
University. After my Masters, I stayed on as a university research assistant while I was
completing a PhD on the automation of smart grids. During my research I came into close
contact with SAG, and when I had completed my doctorate they offered me a job as Head of
Product and Innovation Management. I was responsible for the roadmaps of our software
and IT products. I analysed customer needs in the grid operator market and incorporated
them into our product development.
What is your role today?
N.N.-L.: In January 2018, I was appointed Branch Manager Utility Solutions within the City
Networks & Grids operational division. I’m now involved with the operational side of our
activity with responsibility for our financial results, but I also keep a close eye on product and
business development. In our business unit, our business model is based on reinvesting a
part of our profits in developing new products that we offer to the market.
What has changed for SAG since being acquired by SPIE?
N.N.-L.: The integration plan was very successful, and we now collaborate with different SPIE
units. In one project, for instance, where SPIE Efficient Facilities has a maintenance contract
with a leading German industrial customer, we have been asked to deliver customised software
for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. I appreciate the fact that both SPIE and
SAG share a pragmatic way of doing business, staying close to the customer and not losing
ourselves in paperwork. Here at least, there was a perfect match between the two cultures.
