FSM (Full Staging Method) was used for 2022 meters of the total bridge length or 16%.
MSS (Movable Scaffolding System) was used for 1190 meters of the total bridge length or
10%.
The PSM bridges were built with pre-fabricated + pre-tensioned ~24.5 meters units (367
bridge pre-cast units were produced), which were connected at the site to form 2 x 25 m.
or 3 x 25 m. continuous beams. The continuity was done with cast-in-situ concrete + post-
tensioning. Every 36 hours one bridge unit (620 tons weight) was prefabricated,
transported and assembled, immediately ready to take a load from new incoming unit.
The concrete for FSM and MSS bridges were placed in-situ in plywood or steel form, post-
tensioning was done in 2 (FSM) or 4(MSS) stages.
My responsibilities in the Section 3 were:
1. Supervision engineer responsible for all structures in Section 3. Beside a.m.
bridges, there were two overpasses and one tunnel built by “cut & cover” method.
Head of team composed of local engineers.
2. Checking detail structural drawings
3. Implementation of the PSM method – it was first time that this method was used
for railway bridges.
4. Responsible supervisor engineer for all pre-tensioning and post-tensioning and
related works. Head of team composed of local engineers.
5. Evaluation of the mix design results.
6. All supervision works were done under rules of World Bank.

were directly from the drawing tables sent to the site – design and construction were
almost parallel. The bridge was designed as steel truss composed of uniform elements.
My role was:

superstructures – only one superstructure was built due to expected traffic volume. The
bridge was heavily damaged during NATO bombing in 1999. My role was:

Railway Bridge over Tamis River in Secanj
Existing railway bridge was built in 1889 – it was in very poor condition, with elements that
could not fulfil requests of traffic. Bridge length was 254 m, with short spans even in river
bed – bridge piers were damaged from ice pressure. Client request was to keep existing
aligment and to have minimal disturbance of existing traffic during new bridge construction
works.
The new bridge kept the same spans (plate girders with spans of 20.50 m. and 21.90) as
existing bridge, with exception of the river bed where steel truss with 61.32 m. span was
designed. Railway tracks were designed as “open” with wooden sleepers. The new bridge
piers consisted of 2 / 4 piles dia 1.5 meters and concrete transversal beam. These beams
had 5.00 m. cantilevers all placed on same side of existing bridge. All new concrete works
were done without disturbance of the traffic. The new steel bridges were temporary
