A Newsletter for SHADOW WOOD COUNTRY CLUB
SPRING 2015
2 | The Shadow | SPRING 2015
We are fortunate to be able to live in beautiful
Shadow Wood and enjoy all the fabulous amenities
Shadow Wood Country Club has to offer with our
family and friends. Your Board is very pleased with
the recent successes of the club in all areas of the
organization. The club has been most successful
in attracting new members over the last five years
and this is a further testimony to the wisdom of
our members in approving not only the clubhouse
renovation, but improvements to the golf courses,
tennis facilities, and the Preserve facility. Shadow
Wood Country Club is truly a place where members
are proud to belong!
At the most recent Annual Meeting in March
2015, your Board introduced the “Vision 2025”
concept. In essence this is a 10-year financial plan
that includes operational and capital needs for the
organization. As we move into the summer months,
your Board of Directors, the club’s Past President’s
Council, and the management team plan to meet
in June for a three day retreat. During this retreat,
all participants will discuss the club, reaffirm the
club’s strategic plan, and develop a communication
plan about “Vision 2025” for the membership to
be revealed at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting in
November.
Shadow Wood Country Club is a complex
organization that strives for excellence and a club
that has built a culture of achieving results. We
have a welcoming membership, an engaged team
of employees, a beautiful facility, and a full amenity
package to offer. Our results can only be achieved
through the efforts of a lot of people working
together as a team. As an overview to some of the
achievements at Shadow Wood, I would like to take
a minute to summarize my thoughts on the club:
The club continues to sign up new members in
all categories of membership. We offer golf, tennis
and social events that are well attended and well
received by the overall membership. We continue
to develop programs and policies that focus on
current member retention. We continue to pay off
resigning members. The club continues to act as
a good neighbor not only to our neighbors in the
Brooks and Preserve communities, but within our
competitive set of clubs. We continue to develop,
our “Vision 2025” Plan. We continue to invest in
capital equipment that betters our ability to provide
a quality experience in a safe, efficient manner. We
continue to invest in infrastructure needs on the
golf courses, buildings and tennis facilities. These
investments elevate the reputation of Shadow Wood
within our competitive environment and make for a
more enjoyable member experience. We continue to
invest in our employees through training, continuing
education, and wellness programs. All of these
programs help to retain the best possible employees
and provide a friendly working environment.
The club continues to develop policies and
programs that are inclusive of the membership.
In closing, I would like to thank all of our
committees and the membership for your continued
support. Your Board of Directors is united and
unanimous in our commitment to keep Shadow
Wood Country Club relevant and ahead of the
competition in a fiscally responsible manner as we
move into the next decade of the club’s life through
“Vision 2025.” We are equally committed to provide
you, the true owners of the club, with the best
possible communication so that we all can make the
best possible informed decisions when asked to vote
on critical matters.
Sincerely yours,
Ray Kostelc

Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Members,
On behalf of your entire team at Shadow Wood Country
Club, we would to thank you for your support over this past
season. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting this season of
events at the club! We have received an enormous amount of
encouraging feedback and throughout the season we felt the
sense of pride our members have for our team and the club.
Together, members and staff alike can reflect on the memo-
rable experiences that were created and the fun we all enjoyed.
Thank you for making Shadow Wood such a fantastic club!
In late March 2015, our Board of Directors hosted the club's
Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting was the perfect setting
for our Board, coupled with our management team, to review
the success of 2014 and preview some of the projects the club's
committees are looking at for the future. Please see the below
recap of the Annual Meeting:
2015 Annual Meeting Recap
As a result of the election of the three open positions on the
Board of Directors, we would like to officially welcome Mr.
Kevin Mulvaney and Mr. Don Reece to the Board and congrat-
ulate current Board member, Mr. Ron Pierce as each Director
begins their three year term effective immediately.
The Board and the entire staff would like to give a special
thanks to our outgoing Club President Mrs. Nancy Nemec and
outgoing Board member Mr. Farris Kalil for their hard work
and commitment to the Club over the last several years.

House Committee
Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Members,
Wow!! What an outstanding golfing season at Shadow
Wood CC! On behalf of the entire golf staff, I would like to
take this opportunity to thank all of those members who have
volunteered their time on the various Golf Committees. The
direction and leadership, provided by our Golf Committees,
is vital in our efforts towards offering a diverse and exciting
menu of golf events. The strong majority of feedback has
proven that the volume and variety of golf events is working
well amongst our numerous golfing groups. In effort to meet our goal of “Contin-
ued Improvement,” we are excited for the opportunity to spend time this summer
fine-tuning our scheduling and offerings for more excitement next season!
The 2015 Reciprocal Program begins May 1st and will host over sixty local
golf clubs along with additional social and dining clubs. The staff is eager to assist
our members with reciprocal arrangements. We are looking forward to joining an
occasional member group for a reciprocal game, when an extra player is needed!
Also, please keep an eye out for a new program this summer called “Play with
your Pro!”
The Shadow Wood Golf Academy remains active during the summer months.
Each of our PGA/LPGA Professionals continue to provide top-level instruction
throughout the summer at both the North/South and the Preserve locations. This
is a perfect time of the year to schedule un-interrupted Practice Range golf lessons
along with Playing Lessons, as the golf courses are less active.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who partici-
pated in our golf events this season. Participation in events is a critical measure of
our success and we feel so fortunate to fill the majority of our events. Please note
on the surrounding pages, results and pictures from the recent Ladies’ Legacy,
Men’s Legacy, and Club Championship! Also, don’t forget that we will offer select
Holiday Events over the summer and we hope you consider participating in these
events and spending a portion of your summer holidays at the club! Stay tuned as
additional information about these events and others will be sent over the summer.
In closing, thank you for a great golf season at Shadow Wood CC. Your staff
remains focused on providing an exciting events’ calendar, first-class golf shops,
exceptional service, and the finest golf experience possible for our members.
Have a great summer!
Respectfully yours,
Andy Scrivner

Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Member,
As we wrap up a fantastic golf season here, we would like to reflect back on the
renovation processes of 2014 that proved to be a success for this year.
The Club committed to the re-grassing of the front nine South Course fairways, tees,
collars, and approaches. The choice to install Celebration Bermuda to make the turf
more consistent and playable was a great choice that paid dividends this season and will
continue to improve over time. The addition of the green, forward tees were also well
received. This model of renovation will serve Shadow Wood well for the next few years as
we work through the courses
to consistently improve turf
surfaces. It should also be
noted that the main driving
range tee at the Brooks
campus was also converted to
gain longevity out of the turf
for seasonal demands.
Respectfully yours,

Dear Shadow Wood Country
Club Members,
It is hard to believe that another
season has come and gone. I guess
the old saying “Time flies when
you’re having fun” is true because
we had a lot of fun this season at
the Preserve. Our entire team re-
mains focused on the goal of providing the best ex-
perience possible to our members and guests. It has
truly been our pleasure to serve you and we can’t
wait until the 2015-2016 season.
We have enjoyed providing many new offerings this
season and as a result, member activity has increased
significantly at the Preserve in both golf and at the
restaurant. Some of the new golf offerings include
beat the pro contests, hit the green contests, play
with the pro events and even Bocce Ball events.
On the social side we have offered a variety of
events including our daily lunch, Sunday breakfast
buffets and the Friday night Party at the Preserve.
With the Brooks clubhouse approaching capacity
this season, we also added four new nights of dining
per week at the Preserve. In addition to these new
dining options, we offered happy hour drink pricing
five nights per week.
We want to thank all the members for their sup-
port of the Preserve. We are looking forward to the
summer season and having the Preserve open more
often for everyone to enjoy. We will continue to
work hard to improve the overall operation at the
Preserve. Thank you again for your support and safe
travels as you head north for the summer.

Dear Members,
This truly has been a rewarding season! Members,
their families and guests continue to utilize the Club
at record levels. As your Food and Beverage Director, I
would like to thank you for all of your support.
As summer approaches, we are planning for the up-
coming season of events, creating menus and securing
future entertainment. During the summer season we
have dinner dances scheduled on the third Saturday
of each month starting in June and running through
September. Once we review the member survey, each
dinner dance will have a theme and menu highlighting
the special event. Please join us for these fun events.
I encourage you to reach out to me for any of your
dining needs. Our team looks forward to seeing our
year round members over the summer and for those of
you headed north, please have safe travels!

Hello Shadow Wood
Country Club members!
It is hard to believe that
another season is coming
to an end! My main goal
was, and continues to be, making Shadow Wood
Country Club your ‘Number One’ dining desti-
nation!
As a culinary staff, we are committed to ex-
ceeding your expectations every day! During the
next several months I will be working diligently
with my staff on building many new and creative
menus with more variety and selections. I will
use the 2015 Member Survey as one of my tools
along with your ongoing feedback to obtain max-
imum results for the whole membership.
It was such a delight to host three cooking
classes at the Club this season, each of which I
felt were highly informative. With the added
overhead camera presentation, it was easier for all
in attendance to have a close up look at the food
preparation. I plan on continuing these classes
next season, please make your reservations early!
Have a great summer and I look forward to
your return next season!
Your Chef,
Richard Crisanti, CEC, CCA, ACE

Spring 2015

  • 1. A Newsletter for SHADOW WOOD COUNTRY CLUB SPRING 2015
  • 2. 2 | The Shadow | SPRING 2015 We are fortunate to be able to live in beautiful Shadow Wood and enjoy all the fabulous amenities Shadow Wood Country Club has to offer with our family and friends. Your Board is very pleased with the recent successes of the club in all areas of the organization. The club has been most successful in attracting new members over the last five years and this is a further testimony to the wisdom of our members in approving not only the clubhouse renovation, but improvements to the golf courses, tennis facilities, and the Preserve facility. Shadow Wood Country Club is truly a place where members are proud to belong! At the most recent Annual Meeting in March 2015, your Board introduced the “Vision 2025” concept. In essence this is a 10-year financial plan that includes operational and capital needs for the organization. As we move into the summer months, your Board of Directors, the club’s Past President’s Council, and the management team plan to meet in June for a three day retreat. During this retreat, all participants will discuss the club, reaffirm the club’s strategic plan, and develop a communication plan about “Vision 2025” for the membership to be revealed at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting in November. Shadow Wood Country Club is a complex organization that strives for excellence and a club that has built a culture of achieving results. We have a welcoming membership, an engaged team of employees, a beautiful facility, and a full amenity package to offer. Our results can only be achieved through the efforts of a lot of people working together as a team. As an overview to some of the achievements at Shadow Wood, I would like to take a minute to summarize my thoughts on the club: The club continues to sign up new members in all categories of membership. We offer golf, tennis and social events that are well attended and well received by the overall membership. We continue to develop programs and policies that focus on current member retention. We continue to pay off resigning members. The club continues to act as a good neighbor not only to our neighbors in the Brooks and Preserve communities, but within our competitive set of clubs. We continue to develop, our “Vision 2025” Plan. We continue to invest in capital equipment that betters our ability to provide a quality experience in a safe, efficient manner. We continue to invest in infrastructure needs on the golf courses, buildings and tennis facilities. These investments elevate the reputation of Shadow Wood within our competitive environment and make for a more enjoyable member experience. We continue to invest in our employees through training, continuing education, and wellness programs. All of these programs help to retain the best possible employees and provide a friendly working environment. The club continues to develop policies and programs that are inclusive of the membership. In closing, I would like to thank all of our committees and the membership for your continued support. Your Board of Directors is united and unanimous in our commitment to keep Shadow Wood Country Club relevant and ahead of the competition in a fiscally responsible manner as we move into the next decade of the club’s life through “Vision 2025.” We are equally committed to provide you, the true owners of the club, with the best possible communication so that we all can make the best possible informed decisions when asked to vote on critical matters. Sincerely, Brian Bartolec General Manager/COO Shadow Wood CC Newly Elected Board Members SPRING 2015 | The Shadow | 3 From the General Manager Brian Bartolec GM/COO Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Members, On behalf of your entire team at Shadow Wood Country Club, we would to thank you for your support over this past season. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting this season of events at the club! We have received an enormous amount of encouraging feedback and throughout the season we felt the sense of pride our members have for our team and the club. Together, members and staff alike can reflect on the memo- rable experiences that were created and the fun we all enjoyed. Thank you for making Shadow Wood such a fantastic club! In late March 2015, our Board of Directors hosted the club's Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting was the perfect setting for our Board, coupled with our management team, to review the success of 2014 and preview some of the projects the club's committees are looking at for the future. Please see the below recap of the Annual Meeting: 2015 Annual Meeting Recap As a result of the election of the three open positions on the Board of Directors, we would like to officially welcome Mr. Kevin Mulvaney and Mr. Don Reece to the Board and congrat- ulate current Board member, Mr. Ron Pierce as each Director begins their three year term effective immediately. The Board and the entire staff would like to give a special thanks to our outgoing Club President Mrs. Nancy Nemec and outgoing Board member Mr. Farris Kalil for their hard work and commitment to the Club over the last several years. • 4. Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Members, Wow!! What an outstanding golfing season at Shadow Wood CC! On behalf of the entire golf staff, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those members who have volunteered their time on the various Golf Committees. The direction and leadership, provided by our Golf Committees, is vital in our efforts towards offering a diverse and exciting menu of golf events. The strong majority of feedback has proven that the volume and variety of golf events is working well amongst our numerous golfing groups. In effort to meet our goal of “Contin- ued Improvement,” we are excited for the opportunity to spend time this summer fine-tuning our scheduling and offerings for more excitement next season! The 2015 Reciprocal Program begins May 1st and will host over sixty local golf clubs along with additional social and dining clubs. The staff is eager to assist our members with reciprocal arrangements. We are looking forward to joining an occasional member group for a reciprocal game, when an extra player is needed! Also, please keep an eye out for a new program this summer called “Play with your Pro!” The Shadow Wood Golf Academy remains active during the summer months. Each of our PGA/LPGA Professionals continue to provide top-level instruction throughout the summer at both the North/South and the Preserve locations. This is a perfect time of the year to schedule un-interrupted Practice Range golf lessons along with Playing Lessons, as the golf courses are less active. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who partici- pated in our golf events this season. Participation in events is a critical measure of our success and we feel so fortunate to fill the majority of our events. Please note on the surrounding pages, results and pictures from the recent Ladies’ Legacy, Men’s Legacy, and Club Championship! Also, don’t forget that we will offer select Holiday Events over the summer and we hope you consider participating in these events and spending a portion of your summer holidays at the club! Stay tuned as additional information about these events and others will be sent over the summer. In closing, thank you for a great golf season at Shadow Wood CC. Your staff remains focused on providing an exciting events’ calendar, first-class golf shops, exceptional service, and the finest golf experience possible for our members. Have a great summer! • 8. Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Member, As we wrap up a fantastic golf season here, we would like to reflect back on the renovation processes of 2014 that proved to be a success for this year. The Club committed to the re-grassing of the front nine South Course fairways, tees, collars, and approaches. The choice to install Celebration Bermuda to make the turf more consistent and playable was a great choice that paid dividends this season and will continue to improve over time. The addition of the green, forward tees were also well received. This model of renovation will serve Shadow Wood well for the next few years as we work through the courses to consistently improve turf surfaces. It should also be noted that the main driving range tee at the Brooks campus was also converted to gain longevity out of the turf for seasonal demands. Respectfully yours, Eric W. • 13. Dear Shadow Wood Country Club Members, It is hard to believe that another season has come and gone. I guess the old saying “Time flies when you’re having fun” is true because we had a lot of fun this season at the Preserve. Our entire team re- mains focused on the goal of providing the best ex- perience possible to our members and guests. It has truly been our pleasure to serve you and we can’t wait until the 2015-2016 season. We have enjoyed providing many new offerings this season and as a result, member activity has increased significantly at the Preserve in both golf and at the restaurant. Some of the new golf offerings include beat the pro contests, hit the green contests, play with the pro events and even Bocce Ball events. On the social side we have offered a variety of events including our daily lunch, Sunday breakfast buffets and the Friday night Party at the Preserve. With the Brooks clubhouse approaching capacity this season, we also added four new nights of dining per week at the Preserve. In addition to these new dining options, we offered happy hour drink pricing five nights per week. We want to thank all the members for their sup- port of the Preserve. We are looking forward to the summer season and having the Preserve open more often for everyone to enjoy. We will continue to work hard to improve the overall operation at the Preserve. Thank you again for your support and safe travels as you head north for the summer. • 14. Dear Members, This truly has been a rewarding season! Members, their families and guests continue to utilize the Club at record levels. As your Food and Beverage Director, I would like to thank you for all of your support. As summer approaches, we are planning for the up- coming season of events, creating menus and securing future entertainment. During the summer season we have dinner dances scheduled on the third Saturday of each month starting in June and running through September. Once we review the member survey, each dinner dance will have a theme and menu highlighting the special event. Please join us for these fun events. I encourage you to reach out to me for any of your dining needs. Our team looks forward to seeing our year round members over the summer and for those of you headed north, please have safe travels! • 15. Chef’s Corner Hello Shadow Wood Country Club members! It is hard to believe that another season is coming to an end! My main goal was, and continues to be, making Shadow Wood Country Club your ‘Number One’ dining desti- nation! As a culinary staff, we are committed to ex- ceeding your expectations every day! During the next several months I will be working diligently with my staff on building many new and creative menus with more variety and selections. I will use the 2015 Member Survey as one of my tools along with your ongoing feedback to obtain max- imum results for the whole membership.  It was such a delight to host three cooking classes at the Club this season, each of which I felt were highly informative. With the added overhead camera presentation, it was easier for all in attendance to have a close up look at the food preparation. I plan on continuing these classes next season, please make your reservations early! Have a great summer and I look forward to your return next season!
