Count on Digitalization
Digital competency plays an important role in the working world of today - both in the daily dealing with technology
as well as in the company organization. With a three-stage model it becomes clear, which possibilities employees
and organizations have to work on the various digital playing fields.
More than just technical skills
Digital competency describes skills that go beyond direct interaction with computers.
Referring to the connected world, digital competency is the ability to work self-organized and creatively in
open situations, which can be influenced by networked computers. In a nutshell: Digital Competency describes
the ability to count on and calculate with computers.
"Calculating" always also stands for the unexpected. At the same time, it stands for dealing with yourself
and other people.
Points of reference for digital competences
In professional life, the digitalisation encounters most employees in three main contexts:
1. when directly interacting with computers,
2. when the communication within the organization changes by using computers,
3. when the communication with customers and external partners in markets changes by using computers.

Levels of digital competence
There are no simple "updates" for the requirements of digitalization. What can help in building digital competences
are protected areas where experiences can be made, reflected and strengthened.
What can help?
Examples for imparting digital competences
Open access to knowledge resources Creating new creative possibilities for employees
(like Youtube or Quora) (i.e. by organizing internal barcamps)
Self-responsible learning providing short internships in start-ups
Conduct of workshops Intentionally creating encounters with digital companies
to experience terms and patterns and thus strengthening of own ability to innovate

We live in exciting times. The computers certainly have a good part in it. For the sociologist Dirk Baecker,
the decisive questions are: What task will the machine do in the future, what does man do?
Will I ask another person after the way or I will open Google Maps on the smartphone? Where does the customer
still have a "Human Experience" and where is an immediate response required, only possible with computers?
The higher the level of digital competency, the more likely these questions can be answered.
