Freestyle Street Basketball E-Sports Tournament Proposal
1. TO: Eugene Kim, JOYCITY Annex
FROM: Simon Via
DATE: July 24, 2020
SUBJECT: E-Sports Tournament
Your popular game Freestyle Street Basketball 2 has just hit its sixth birthday just
recently. Throughout these six years your company has put on different tournament
events however, none of them where for cash prize. I would like to create an official E-
sports tournament for your game with a sponsor and an actual grand prize, to give your
game more media attention.
Background and Purpose
I have personally been playing your game on and off for the past 5 years and I would
consider your game to be my favorite. You have created an amazing free to play game
with the style between street basketball and the anime art aesthetic you have really
created a niche game that many gamers fell in love with. I have watched the previous
tournaments you have put together through the years and I thought they were effective at
the time. However, with the rise of professional E-sports throughout the world your game
could use an overhaul to your traditional tournament structure.
Proposed Plan of Action
Overhauling your official tournaments with actual cash prizes would bring more players
to your game who would want to participate in the niche game. Creating this tournament
would also make your company money on whatever sponsors decide to partner. Below
you will find specific details regarding this proposal.
Schedule
Here is the proposed timeline for outlining the deadlines for each stage in creating this E-
Sport tournament.
Finding an official sponsor of the event: August 30th
Finishing all contracts with partnered sponsors: September 6th
Partnered content creator start to post about tournament: September 7th
Sign-Up for Tournament Deadline: September 18th
Qualifier Pool Rounds: September 30th
Official Tournament Start (Streamed on Twitch): October 14th
Virtual Award Ceremony (Streamed on Twitch): October 17th
Staffing
Staffing is not a huge issue as you already have the infrastructure to run an e-sports
tournament already. As stated above, you can use the official partnered content creators
to marker the tournament on their respectable platforms. You also already have a staff of
in-game moderators that you have used in the past to run the tournament. Also, any
2. development needs would use in-house staffing as you still have an active staffing in
development. This in-house staffing makes creating this tournament super cheap. The
person I would reach out to announce the stream would be the popular content creator
“Valioa Justice”. I, Simon Via, would be handling finding sponsor partnerships and with
any other marketing strategy issues.
Budget
Items:
Prize Money: $15,000
Developer Costs: $10,000
Moderator Costs: $5,000
Announcer Cost: $5,000
Executive Cost: $10,000
Digital Marketing Costs: $5,000
Total Cost: $50,000
Authorization
I am confident, Mr. Kim, that overhauling Freestyle 2 Street Basketball Official E-Sport
Tournament would bring more players to your game and create more professional players
which will use the in-game purchases you provide. Please respond by August 7th to allow
enough time to start looking for sponsors.
