India's B Sai Praneeth defeated Indonesia's
Jonatan Christie in the final of the Thailand
Open in Bangkok on Sunday in a seesawing
contest that lasted one hour and 11 minutes.
“I was just focusing on the rallies. It was a
difficult match. The rallies were going too
long. But I tried to slowly and slowly build up
and I am happy I could win. I thank everyone
who supported me," said Praneeth after the
match.

8. BADMINTON WORLD
FEDERATION
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the
international governing body for the sport of
badminton recognized by the International
Olympic Committee (IOC). It was founded in
1934 as the International Badminton
Federation (IBF) with nine member nations.
The BWF has since expanded to 176 member
nations around the world. On 24 September
2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in
Madrid, it was decided to adopt the new name
Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Cheltenham, UK since its founding,
but on 1st October 2005, it was
relocated to Kuala Lumpur. Its current
President is Poul Erik Høyer Larsen.

GOLD
The BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix is
a series of badminton tournaments,
sanctioned by Badminton World
Federation (BWF) since2007.
A Grand Prix Gold tournament offers
minimum prize money of US$120,000 and
a Grand Prix tournament offers minimum
prize money of US$50,000. The formula of
prize money distribution is identical to
Super Series tournament.

15. LIVE COMMENTARY
• The Indonesian Jonatan Christie opened up a 30 lead but
Praneeth soon caught up with him at 44 and it was a close battle
till 77 before Christie broke free to maintain a slender edge.
• After another couple of close points, Christie found himself 1817
up and quickly sealed off the opening game with three points on
the trot.
• Making a brilliant comeback in the second game, Praneeth
surged ahead 50 and then 93 but failed to maintain his huge
lead.
• Thereafter, it was a neck to neck battle till 1515 before the
Indian took a slight two point lead at 1715.
16. • Leading 1716, Praneeth managed to bag three more
points to move ahead 2016. Although he wasted two
game points, he eventually won it 2118.
• In the decider, Christie broke away at 22 to open up a
72 lead and then to 83. However, the Indian slowly
made his way up with five consecutive points to reduce
the margin to 7 8.
• At 1717, Praneeth won two crucial points to take a 19-
17 lead but only to concede the advantage.
• A missed smash at 1919 gave Praneeth his first match
point, which he converted with a body smash.
