Stairways to Audience
Two 48" wide stairways of six steps each lead from either side of the apron into the audience.
Orchestra Pit
Between the apron and the first row of seats is an angular shaped orchestra pit which runs
parallel to the first row. The floor of the pit is 7’ 0" below the stage. The pit is 8’ 2" across at
the widest point and 31' 6" long. The pit is non- hydraulic and uncovered at present.
Stage Floor
The permanent stage floor is made of oak and is stained dark brown. The oak floor is over a
3/4" plywood subfloor which is mounted on 2" x 12" joists located 12" on center. This is the
same for the entire stage area, including the rear addition.
No screws or nails may be used in the floor. All tape used for blocking should be removed
following each production.
Backstage Entrances
Artist’s and Crew Entrances
Through a double door entryways at the rear of The Plaza Arts Center or the stage door
(offstage right) These are accessible from Washington St.
Loading Dock
The backstage loading dock is accessible off Washington St. at the rear of the arts center.
The loading dock opens up into the stage right area. The doorway is 8' wide and 10' high.
The stage floor level is 3’6” above ground level at the loading dock, which makes it suitable for
trucks. There is a 38’ space in front of the loading dock for vehicles to squarely park. Longer
trucks will have to park at an angle to the dock.
A walkboard, portable ramp, or lift is desirable for load-in/ load-out. The theater does not own
any of these items.
Dressing Rooms and Green Room
The theater has two ample dressing rooms. Each backstage dressing room has hot and cold
running water, 3 sinks, walls of well-lighted mirrors, dressing counters and wardrobe racks.
There is space for 6 performers in each dressing room however, they are currently set up for
4. Adjacent to each is a restroom with shower. The dressing rooms are private and can be
secured. They are directly off stage left and right at stage level.
The Plaza Arts Center also has a classroom, with a large sink and running (hot and cold)
water, across the hall from the theater that can serve as additional dressing room space or
can be converted into a Green Room from which entertainers can be catered. We have 5 -(6')
rectangular tables, 10 -(8') rectangular tables, 20 - (6') round tables, and 174 chairs available
at the Arts Center.
Curtains
Main Curtains
The main curtain is of heavy theater burgundy velour that draws open from the middle with
hand operated lines located at the stage right edge of the main curtain.
Legs
The stage is equipped with four pairs of legs (pleated) which are black and measure 8' wide.
Because the ceiling of the original stage area is taller than the newer addition, the lengths of
the legs are different. The two downstage legs are 18’ 6” long and the two upstage legs are
16’ 0” long. They are presently fixed (not on swiveling roto locks) and angled upstage.
The legs' locations (based on squared, not angled positions) from the plaster line are as
follows:
Set #1 = 5’ 6”
Set #2 = 11’ 0”
Set #3 = 20’ 0”
Set #4 = 26’ 6”
Teasers or Borders
The stage is equipped with one burgundy velour, pleated teaser (6” downstage from the main
curtain) and six black borders. Each of the borders is approximately 40’ wide (pleated). Once
again, due to the differing ceiling heights these borders have different lengths (see below).
The border battens span the width of the stage and are permanently hung. Their location from
the plaster line is as follows:
Distance From Length Clearance Height
Plaster Line
• Border #1 5’ 0” 4’ 0” 15” 0”
• Border #2 10' 6" 4’ 0” 15’ 0”
• Border #3 15' 6" 5’ 4” 14’ 0”
• Border #4 19' 6" 2’ 0” 15’ 6”
• Border #5 26’ 0” 2’ 0” 15’ 6”
• Border #6 29’ 6” 2’ 0” 15’ 6”
Travelers
The stage is equipped with two black travelers, one at mid stage and one immediately in front
of the cyclorama at the back of the stage. Each of the travelers draw open from the middle
with hand drawn lines set at the stage right end of the travelers.
The midstage traveler is located 16’ 0” upstage from the plaster line 17’ 6” long and
approximately 40’ wide.
The backstage traveler is set at 27’ 6” upstage from the plaster line and 2' 6" in front of the
cyclorama. It is 15’ 6” long and approximately 40' wide.
Backings (Scrims and Cycloramas)
The stage is equipped with a black scrim that located 20’6” upstage from the plaster line. The
scrim can be drawn from stage right to stage left.
The stage is also equipped with a flat, white, opaque cyclorama located 30’0” upstage from
the plaster line and 11’ 0” from the back wall.
The cyclorama is stretched with batten joints inserted in a sleeve at the bottom of the
cyclorama. It is not retractable.

The loading dock opens up into the stage right area. The doorway is 8' wide and 10' high. The stage floor level is 3’6” above ground level at the loading dock, which makes it suitable for trucks. There is a 38’ space in front of the loading dock for vehicles to squarely park. Longer trucks will have to park at an angle to the dock. A walkboard, portable ramp, or lift is desirable for load-in/ load-out. The theater does not own any of these items. Dressing Rooms and Green Room The theater has two ample dressing rooms.
