1. On March 30, 2014 Shirley Gutkowski, host of Cross Link Radio, invites
listeners to a very special live event The Sjögren’s Experience. April is Sjögren's
awareness month, and this special kicks off the month with interviews with
people across the spectrum of Sjögren’s Syndrome.
Sjögren's Syndrome is the second most common autoimmune disease. Starting
with the mouth and the eyes the condition attacks the moisture producing cells
in the body. Those suffering with this condition have a mouth so dry that
eating is nearly impossible without a sip of water with each bite, or only eating
foods that are covered in gravy or have their own very high moisture content.
Eyes burn with the dryness making every waking hour painful for those with
Sjögren’s.
Venus Williams is the face of Sjögren’s Syndrome since her diagnosis after
nearly five years of misdiagnosis. Guests of the show include:
Sarah Schafer, MD is a physician who worked in Public Health and pediatrics
for 18 years prior to developing severe systemic symptoms of Sjögren’s
Syndrome.
Laura Strom is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified
Rehabilitation Counselor.
Dona Frosio was diagnosed with in 1991, with primary Sjögren’s Syndrome.
JoAnn Snider, RDH a dental hygienist with Sjögren’s Syndrome
Tammy Filipiak, RDH, BS Director of Clinical Development in a large group
dental practice whose mother suffered with Sjögren’s Syndrome.
