Information Technology
The way in which these technologies are used in
the Organizations for information processing
decides their success or failure hence, the IT
have giving new face lift to discipline MIS.
Computer technology has been considered as a
major factor in the development of MIS . The
reason is its speed of processing , calculating ,
and retrieval of data .

What does M I S means ?
The MIS consists of Three individual terms namely ,
Management, Information and System.
Management : It means Planning and control of physical and
personnel resources of an organization to reach its goals and
objectives.
Information : It is the processed data that have been retrieved
,processed or otherwise ,which helps the management to take
decisions .
System : It means order , arrangement , purposes , set or things
joined together to achieve a decided objectives .

MIS CONCEPT
• The Management Information System is integrated Man
Machine system that provides information to support the
planning and control functions of management in an
Organisation . The MIS is something more than just a
computer system . Before the evolution of computers , MIS
techniques existed to supply users with information that
would permit them to arrive at an effective decisions . The
computer has added new dimensions such as speed ,
accuracy and processing of massive data that permit the
consideration of more alternative in decisions .

Definitions of M I s
According to “Kelly’’ he defines MIS is the “combination of
human and computer based resources that results in the
collection , storage , retrieval , communication and use of
data for the purpose of efficient management of operations
and for business planning’’.
This term is commonly used to refer to the study of how
individuals , groups, and organizations evaluate , design ,
implement , manage and utilize systems to generate
information to improve efficiency .
According “James’’ he defines MIS as “to provide 6

Management Information System . The purpose of
MIS is to extract data from varied sources and derive
insights that drive business growth .
