1. Time to get in Formation: Women’s Golf coming to 49ers
Athletics in 2017
The Charlotte 49ers has added women’s golf to our catalogue and we did not come to play! As
the first sport welcomed to our athletic family since football in 2013, women’s golf is scheduled
to begin in 2017 and we could not be any more excited. The program has selected Holly Clark to
be the head coach and she is “back at it again” with our women’s golf team being the second
program that she has started from scratch.
“I want to personally thank Judy Rose, Darin Spease, and Ryan Cabbage for this amazing
and exciting opportunity,” remarked Clark. “It is rare that a coach gets to start her own program
from the ground up. I am incredibly blessed and grateful for the chance to do it again at a great
2. university in a wonderful golf community. What an honor to be the 49ers first women’s golf
coach!”
Clark came to Slay
Clark started the women’s golf program at Carson-Newman in 2008. There, Clark helped the
Eagles to a NCAA Regional bid in the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Championship and again
in 2010.
Clark has spent the last six seasons with Vanderbilt where she brought in four NCAA
Championship appearances and six-straight NCAA Regional bids. Last fall, Clark helped
Vanderbilt take home top-five finishes including a tie for first in the Las Vegas Intercollegiate.
While in Nashville, Clark helped coach a two-time SEC Player of the Year, two first-team All-
Americans, a NCAA regional champion and a SEC Freshman of the Year.
Back in college, Clark was a four-year star at Tennessee and brought them to a 2006 NCAA East
Regional championship. As a student, Clark earned NGCA Academic All-American honors,
Academic All-SEC honors, and was named to the All-SEC Good Works team for her service to
the community. In 2003, Clark led her high school golf team to the 2003 state title as the
individual state champion in Tennessee.
Watch out or you’ll get eliminated
Clark truly is the real deal and we are thrilled to see how she will build our team up from the
ground and make an impression in our division of Conference USA.
Athletic Director Judy Rose has absolutely no worries that Clark will be an excellent coach and
mentor to our women golfers.
3. “Holly's experience as a player and a coach at the highest levels assures me that our
program is in great hands,” remarked Rose.
The 49ers are heading into next season at full force and are ready to meet our competition. We
are now the 12th
school with a women’s golf team and are confident that Clark can make our
team champions.
Even Ryan Cabbage, the men’s head golf coach, is ready to have Clark on our team.
“Holly is a fantastic coach, will do a tremendous job and on top of that is a great person. I
am really looking forward to working with her,” remarked Cabbage.
What are your thoughts on our new women’s golf team and head coach Holly Clark?
