7. WHAT IS TOPIC CONTROL?
• Topic Control covers how procedural formality or
informality affects the development of topic in
conversation.
• Refers to the skills of listening and talking in a
positive and meaningful way at an appropriate
time.
• Different speaker show varying level of Topic
Control.
• Topic control helps participants conclude their
conversation effectively and satisfactory w/ mutual
understanding and agreement.
8. TOPIC CONTROL
Communication controls member behavior in
several ways.
a) Employees are required to follow authority
hierarchies and formal guidelines.
b) Informal communication also controls
behavior.
(c) When work groups tease or harass a
member who produces too much, they are
informally communicating with, and controlling,
the member’s behavior.
9. IN TOPIC CONTROL
• The situation influences the topic
of conversation.
• The person with the highest status
in a group talks the most.
• There is no topic in casual
conversation.( Informal )
• The person with most expertise
always leads the talk.
