2. Christ! Chrysler, WTF?!
Chrysler LLC is closing its plants for the rest of the year
starting tonight, 18 Dec 2008 CE, and does not plan to
reopen them until a month has passed (19 Jan 2009 CE).
This is being done to cut costs, they say.
This comes at no worse time, as job seekers expect to find
no work until the recession is over.
If Chrysler cannot reopen its plants, it will have to shut down
its operations for good. This will mean Detroit will lose 100K
jobs, but it will lose more than that. It will also lose basically
its whole economy, which is based on cars.
3. Goldman Sachs is no longer golden...
Partners at Goldman Sachs will be losing 80% of this year's
bonus pay after the company has decided to withold
payment of the bonuses to keep retention levels and
maintain its market share in the broker employment market.
In good times, partners have traditionally made between
$3m and $12m in bonuses, but in bad times, partners have
to take the full hit to allow their lesser workers to remain on
the job.
This year's financial crisis may come particularly hard on the
partners.
